➢ As noted in last month’s SEMAPHORE we hired a new Club Services Manager. We are proud and excited that Jennifer Bowman a Member with significant ties to Ocean City has agreed to take this role. She will be present at the club on select days of the week to ensure Members are greeted and to address any questions or requests. We will be posting her hours on the Website in CLUB SERVICES section in Mid-May.

➢ On behalf of the Flag Officers and the Board of Governors, I want to thank Trish Buggy who in the past several years has ensured that all the Private events and Weddings for which the Club derives significant income were well managed. ➢ The Website continues to be updated by Max Hurst & Jennifer R. Beckman who have been doggedly working to make it a dynamic place for Members to see what is happening, as well as on-line event registration & payment. New capabilities in the CLUB SERVICES section now includes a digital version of the SEMAPHORE and ability to generate a Reciprocity Letter on your own when you need it!!! ➢ Thanks again to all Board Members and Officers for their hard work as we are closing in on full Membership.

KEEPING IN THE KNOW AT OCYC

Volunteers Needed - Membership Committee

The Semaphore comes out each month during the season. You can receive it in print form or by email.

Volunteers are needed to make up an official Membership Committee, as outlined in the OCYC ByLaws. PCs and Members are needed to meet with applicants for membership (either in person at the club or virtually) to discuss applicants interest in the club, familiarize applicants with Club activities, answer any questions they may have, and give a tour of the club (if in person). A PC and at least one member would be present at these “interviews”. The time commitment would be 1-2 hours for each meeting with an applicant. We hope to have enough volunteers so that each member would not be asked to do this more than once or twice during the calendar year. Training would be provided for members.

This is a great opportunity for members (singles and couples of all ages) to share their enthusiasm for the Club as well as their experience as members, and to meet new friends.

OCYC SEMAPHORE—May 2022 :

Adult Laser and Sunfish Racing Ocean City Yacht Club offers fun and informal Adult Laser and Sunfish races during the summer months just off the OCYC dock. Races run every other Tuesday June - September. Races begin at (or close) to 6:30 pm. Hope to see you there!

OCYC Bridge

Bay Sailing Series Mark your calendars for this season's bay races. The series will open on Monday, May 30th with a Skipper’s meeting at 9:30 am at the club followed by our traditional Memorial Day Race with a 1:00 pm start. This year we are encouraging our Junior Sailors to sign up and participate. We would love to see Laser’s and 420’s on the starting line!

During Friday Night Bay Races, we will be continuing with the popular “Sunset Celebration,” with a celebratory toast as the sun goes down.

SUMMER BOATYARD STORAGE STARTS MAY 15th!

Summer Boatyard Storage begins on May 15th - Fees are due BEFORE the start of the season.

There is an option to pay boatyard storage fees on the OCYC.org website, under "Club Services".

If you would like to pay by check, please mail a check to OCYC, 100 Bay Road, Ocean City, NJ 08226. Include “Summer Boatyard" in the memo section of your check.

JUNIOR SAILIING Linda Mroz

Junior Sailing Chairperson Registration opened up on the OCYC website for Junior Sailing on April 1st and will remain open through May 15th. I am encouraging those of you who are planning to take part in our program this year to check out the information under Junior Sailing on the OCYC website. All of the details regarding our program can be found there. Boat rentals will be available on a first come first served basis.

I am excited to announce a few changes taking place this summer. Our Sailing program, previously known as our Camp program, will welcome the addition of 2 new Activity Leaders in addition to our 4 sailing instructors, Charles Sedburry and Courtney Sullivan are both teachers during the wintertime and are looking forward to joining us this summer. They will be helping to plan some fun and exciting activities for those enrolled in our Sailing program.

Our more advanced sailors can register for the class of their choice which will meet on the designated days as noted on the website. I am sure that you all will be happy to learn that Katie Bowman and Nick Hark will join us again this year as sailing instructors. We would like to welcome Harrison Abromavage and Alex Yurgin, two additional sailing instructors who will join our staff.

Our parent orientation will be held on Saturday June 18th in the snack bar area. Please watch for notification of the time. During this meeting our programs will be explained, our instructors will be introduced, and we will be available to answer any questions you might have. Junior Sailing will begin on Monday June 20th.

Please check the calendar under Junior Sailing for important dates of some of the exciting events that will take place during the sailing season. Also, please check future Mainsheets, Semaphores and emails for updates and important information. We look forward to seeing you soon!

ALL SHOOTING SAILORS!!!

Excitement is building toward the opening event of the "SPRING SALVO SALUTE" which will be held on May 22nd at Cedar Creek Sporting Clays in Millville. Groups will go off starting at 9:00AM, with lunch and awards following at the Deauville Inn. Sporting Clay Shooting is like golf with a shotgun, only it is less stressful, and doesn't take 4+ hours. Instructions are free, and equipment is available for rental. Not a shooter? Not a problem - just come, watch, enjoy a walk through the woods with us, and come to lunch afterward.

Fifteen participants have already signed up (some sporting new equipment), so come join us - it will be a BLAST!!!
