Becoming the Leader in Sustainable Global Chauffeur Services

“As a

travel and transportation company,

Blacklane has a special obligation to protect not only people, but also the planet."
Dr. Jens Wohltorf, CEO & Co-Founder

Blacklane is committed to protecting the planet and leading environmental change in global transportation, and in 2017, it became the first company in its industry to be certified ‘carbon neutral’ for offsetting the emissions across its operations. Since then, the business has further offset emissions dating back to its creation in 2011. Blacklane’s journey is marked by ambitious targets and intentional action, and supported by science As such, the company continues to make rapid progress toward its aim of Net Zero emissions by 2050 at no additional cost to customers, who continue to receive the same premium service they have come to expect from Blacklane.

Our Commitment

As one of 504 signatories of ‘The Climate Pledge’, Blacklane has committed to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2040 – a target that it is confident it will achieve ahead of schedule, and 10 years earlier than the goal set out in The Paris Agreement

Our

sustainability journey

Achieving Net Zero carbon emissions

Emission Reductions

As part of this pledge, and as a means to achieve its target, Blacklane commits to consistently measuring and reporting its carbon emissions, and implementing an effective strategy to eliminate them

The first step in this process is to reduce emissions as much as possible For a global transport company like Blacklane, this primarily involves transitioning to electric vehicles (EVs) where possible.

As of today, about 15% of Blacklane’s global trips are made in EVs – available through its designated ‘electric class’ service, but also incorporated into its business and first class experiences. For the service “City-to-City”, which offers a great alternative to short-haul flights for distances between metropolitan areas, that portion rises to 25% – one in every four journeys. And by 2025, the company aims to deliver 50% of its journeys in EVs by expanding the share of its global fleet.

To increase the number of trips guests take in EVs, Blacklane has been further expanding its electric fleet. Today, EVs make up over a third (36%) of its top-class models, including the Jaguar I-PACE, the Tesla Model S, and the Tesla Model X. The quality of these vehicles encourage guests to travel electric without compromising their experience.

Blacklane has already achieved astonishing progress towards emissions-free travel in certain local markets. In Dubai, for example, it introduced the Mercedes-Benz EQS to its fleet in 2023, making it fully electric and demonstrating a dedication to excellence and sustainability. In the UK, 30% of rides so far this year have been delivered in EVs, and in London alone 43% of completed rides this year were zeroemission, as the number of zero emissions vehicles available on the platform grew by 116% Furthermore, in the US, rides in EVs have grown by 97% in 2024

South Pole has helped Blacklane to measure its carbon footprint, set appropriate targets, and offset them effectively across its entire supply chain, through investing in renewable energy projects and other climate initiatives

Although South Pole already provides independent emissions verification, this provides an additional third-party verification, to reaffirm its climate commitments, Blacklane also works with the sustainable advisory team at the auditing firm Cooper Parry.

This is all while recognising the importance of remaining a profitable business

Which is why Blacklane became a founding member of the SolarImpulse Foundation (formerly World Alliance for Efficient Solutions), which advocates for companies that are both clean and profitable

Sustainability remains an ongoing journey marked by innovation, transparency, and collaboration, setting new standards for environmentally responsible ground transportation. You can find more information on Blacklane sustainability initiatives here: https://www.blacklane.com/en/sustainability/

Blacklane is also proud to be an employer to 54 nationalities. 43% of the employee population is female, and the C-Suite is composed of 40% women.

We also work with thousands of chauffeurs globally with a focus on enabling sustainable income streams for them Blacklane has committed to a special investment in the UAE. We have focused on training female chauffeurs - by now 50% of our local chauffeurs are women. This is a test case that the company plans to roll out in other locations moving forward

This year (2024), Blacklane is also celebrating its 5th anniversary of supporting a nonprofit MiracleFlights which offers free door-to-door transportation across the U.S. to sick children. To date, Blacklane has provided over 1,700 free rides under the MiracleFlight umbrella
