2023-2024 Recap
The Young Professionals Network had another exciting and busy year in 2023-2024. Our volunteer board continued to work hard to provide members with a variety of events that aligned with our organizational mission and vision, including professional development, social networking, and community service opportunities. With the support of our partner organizations and numerous members, we are able to continue improving the quality and value of these events while further engaging our organization in the community.
We kicked off the year with our Annual Member Picnic in partnership with our 2023 Community Champion Award recipient, Marathon Petroleum, and through a kind donation from Butcher Block Meats. In January of 2024, we held our milestone 10th Annual Epic Impact Event, featuring the inspiring story of Mercedes Ramirez Johnson. Throughout the year, we raised $5,000 and collected items for backpacks for our non-profit partner, 31:8 Project. On May 1st, 2024, we hosted the 19th Annual Cinco Awards and Celebration Event at the Bismarck Hotel. Over 100 attendees from members, partner organizations, and award recipients gathered to celebrate our accomplishments over the past year, vote in our new vice president, announce our 2024-2025 non-profit partner, and recognize winners of our Top 10 Workplaces and annual member awards.
Gabby Abouasslay President Alex Spilman Vice President
In 2023, we launched a survey for our members and partner organizations as we began another strategic planning process. Our strategic planning committee, comprised of board members, general members, and partner organizations, met in early 2024 to review survey results and engage in the strategic planning process. Through the recommendations of the committee, our board is compiling a 3-year strategic plan to continue guiding and strengthening the direction of our organization.
As we prepare to celebrate our 20-year anniversary in 2025, we look forward to the continued growth of our memberships and partnerships while continuing to provide engaging events. We wish to express our gratitude to all of our members, business partners, and supporters for their tremendous support of our network. We truly appreciate your dedication to our organization and the development of young professionals in the BismarckMandan area, and look forward to celebrating 20 amazing years with all of you!
Financial Report
2023-2024
The Bismarck-Mandan Young Professionals Network has worked diligently to continue to provide quality programming over the past year. This has been made possible with our outstanding partners. These partners provided nearly $19,000 in funding including sponsoring events, providing promotional products as well as food and beverages and meeting spaces. The outstanding support of our partners allows our board to provide programming throughout the year.
During the 2023-2024 year we had 20 partners. Partners can choose their level of support ranging from event sponsorships at bronze at $500 all the way up to Diamond at $3000. Based on the level of support partners may receive complimentary memberships. This past year, our partners received 160 complimentary memberships. The support of our sponsors not only helps the network financially, but it demonstrates to our young professionals that the partners value them in the workplace and encourage their growth.

The YPN is a volunteer-based organization. We operate under the umbrella of the Bismarck Mandan Chamber EDC which is a 501(c)6. All of the money that is received goes directly into the YPN programming. Our executive and leadership board members are all volunteers and coordinate all of the events and programs that are offered. Without the dedication and commitment of our members and board members, we would not be able to offer such high quality events.
We truly appreciate all of the support of our partners and the dedication of our co-leads. It is with this partnership that the YPN is able to connect young professionals and make a difference in our community.
Member Specialists

Through these interviews, we have learned that members love the variety of events, the professional development opportunities, experiencing local businesses, hearing entrepreneurs share their stories, and the social aspect of events.

ArtSeries
Throughout the Art Series, members dove into the world of creative expression, each event a vibrant canvas of exploration and inspiration. The journey began with a delightful DIY Craft Night at Board and Brush where each person crafted a one-of-a-kind piece to take home. We also were able to hear about how Board and Brush began and the services they offer for the Bismarck-Mandan community. Following this, our second event in the series was a painting session at Art from the Heart, where we explored our creative side in painting the Badlands. Before painting, we heard the story of how Art from the Heart was formed and the many services they offer.
In April, members participated in a DIY coaster-making workshop hosted by Poppy Creative. We heard from the owner on how she began her business and then she led us through our DIY project. Members were given a choice between 3 Coaster types- macrame, wood, and a photo of their own choosing. Through each event, the Art Series fostered not only an outlet for creative development, but also enriched our members with a strong networking community through shared experiences. In May we did DIY Flower Bouquets at Concrete Daisiez. We learned how the owner got her start and a look into her creative mind.

Thank You Partners!
The Bismarck-Mandan Young Professional’s Network is successful due to our community partnerships. The YP Partner Program had a very successful year creating 20 community partnerships, ranging from Platinum partners to Bronze partners, from monetary partners to inkind donations. We aim to create mutually beneficial partnerships that can be sustained for years to come.
Our partner perks include advertising at events, on our website, and in the annual report; free memberships for employees; job postings on our website job board; and an opportunity to host a companysponsored event. We have seen an increase in partner participation as well. Partners are encouraging young professionals to get involved in the community and attend events such as lunch and learns or after hour socials. The increased participation is great for our network and our community as whole.
We look forward to growing our partnership program and creating partnerships that benefit the network, the partner, and the community.
