A Message from President John Barnhart

Bishop McNamara High School

Bishop McNamara High School is kicking off the summer with pride and gratitude for a remarkable school year and our continued success. Honored as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School, Bishop McNamara continues to exemplify the strength of our mission, the excellence of our programs, and the vibrant spirit of our students and community. This legacy of distinction lives on each day, as our school remains a beacon of academic achievement, character formation, and Catholic values.

The Class of 2025 is poised to carry that legacy forward. Our students have earned admission to some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the nation, including the University of Pennsylvania, Howard, NYU, the U.S. Naval Academy, Georgetown, Emory, Spelman, and many more. Together, they’ve been awarded over $31 million in scholarships this year alone, a remarkable achievement made possible by your continued faith in our mission.

In a powerful affirmation of our work, Bishop McNamara had the extraordinary honor of welcoming Maryland Governor Wes Moore to campus for an intimate sit-down interview with our students. Governor Moore’s visit was more than just one of the many highlights of the year; it was a transformational moment that reminded us all of the strength and purpose that comes from living our values with conviction.

As interest in Bishop McNamara continues to grow, we’ve seen a 10% rise in applications. Nearly 700 prospective students competed for just 220 spots in our incoming freshman class, fully enrolled by March 15th. Our community is thriving, and the demand for a McNamara education has never been stronger.

McNamara's pride extends beyond the classroom. Congratulations to our Lady Mustangs for winning the 2025 WCAC Girls Basketball Championship! We also celebrate the incredible achievements of our alumni: Madison Scott ’20 and Liatu King ’20, both drafted into the WNBA, and Qadence Samuels ’23, who helped bring home a National Championship with UConn.

As the momentum continues, our students are being honored for excellence in AI and engineering, featured in the news, and preparing to spend time at NASA Goddard, exploring the future of science and technology this summer.

As we celebrate all these milestones, we also pause to reflect on the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. His life of service, humility, and unwavering commitment to the poor and marginalized has left a profound mark on the Catholic Church and the world. We are grateful for his example and inspired to carry his legacy of compassion and justice into all we do.

At Bishop McNamara, we are not just educating students, we are preparing leaders who will make a lasting difference in the world. Thank you for standing with us.

Together, we are strong. Together, we are McNamara.

With gratitude,

CHAIRWOMAN’S LETTER

Dear Mustang Community,

What an incredible honor it is to serve in my first year as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors during such a transformative chapter in the life of Bishop McNamara High School. This year has reaffirmed what so many of us already know: Bishop McNamara High School is more than a school; it’s a movement of faith, excellence, and impact.

In the wake of our 2024 National Blue Ribbon School recognition, the energy on campus and in our extended community continues to grow. But rather than resting on this achievement, we are moving forward with even greater purpose. From advancing new building initiatives to strengthening our commitment to service and faith formation, McNamara continues to lead not just in academics but in developing leaders of character who make a lasting impact on the world.

As Board Chair, I’m proud to witness firsthand the incredible impact Bishop McNamara has on shaping future leaders. Our students continue to reach new heights—excelling academically, serving their communities, and stepping confidently into the next chapter of their lives. Their energy, talent, and potential are truly inspiring, and they remind us each day why our commitment to investing in their growth matters so deeply.

One of the most exciting parts of this journey has been seeing the mark Bishop McNamara is making far beyond our walls. Whether through student-led service projects, alumni driving change across industries, or partnerships that uplift our region, our school is living out its mission to educate hearts and minds. We are forming compassionate, capable, and courageous leaders, and that impact reaches well beyond our classrooms.

This continued success is no accident. It is the result of visionary leadership, dedicated faculty and staff, generous supporters, and a community that truly believes in the power of Catholic education. As Chairwoman, I am committed to building on this momentum, investing in innovation, strengthening our spiritual foundation, and ensuring every Mustang is prepared to thrive in college, career, and life.

Thank you for your faith in our mission. Together, we are shaping a future full of promise, purpose, and hope.

With deep gratitude and Mustang pride,

Governor Wes Moore Visits Bishop McNamara for Guest Speaker Series

On Tuesday, April 29, Bishop McNamara High School had the distinct honor of welcoming Governor Wes Moore to campus for a special edition of the school’s WMAC Guest

Speaker Series. The event, held in the Fine Arts Theater, offered students a unique and inspiring opportunity to hear directly from Maryland’s 63rd Governor.

Governor Moore was accompanied by Vincent Harrington '09, former Director of Admissions at Bishop McNamara, and Talib Reddick '22, further emphasizing the deep connections between state leadership and the McNamara alumni community.

As part of the program, WMAC student broadcast journalists Maya Stewart '26, Kennedy Ben '25, and William Lightfoot Jr. '26 conducted a live interview with Governor Moore. Leonard Lancaster Jr. '26 served as the event public address announcer and Darrell Barr-Jones '25 captured photos & video for this historic Gathering with the Governor. All 5 students are part of the school’s WMAC student broadcast journalism program. The program is moderated by Mr. Lou Holder, Emmy Awardwinning broadcast journalist and Alumni Parent, who organized the ongoing speaker series to introduce the BMHS students and school community to prominent leaders and professionals.

Select classes, including Social Studies, Broadcast Journalism, and Senior Privilege, were invited to attend the event, which focused on themes of leadership, service, education, and civic responsibility.

Governor Moore inspired students with personal reflections and practical advice:

“One of the really complicated things about leadership is you don’t just have to tackle the things that you’re prepared for,” he said. “You have to tackle the things that you didn’t prepare for.”

Student interviewer William Lightfoot Jr. '26 shared his excitement about the opportunity to speak with the Governor.

“It was great to confront him, and, you know, to be inspired by him,” said William. “He specifically talked about, ‘Look for tough. Look for something tough; especially when you're figuring out what you want to major in, because tough will come, and you need to build the skills to be resilient in issues.'”

Maya Stewart '26 also reflected on how the experience pushed her to grow: “... to challenge myself. I’m not really good at that. I’m always trying to pick another way. I’m like, ‘Wait, I can do it another way. It’s really okay.’ But yeah—to really challenge myself.”

Governor Moore’s visit was a powerful reminder of the importance of student voice, curiosity, and resilience. His message resonated deeply with the McNamara community and left a lasting impression on all in attendance which was what Mr. Holder desired from the event.

“This school is a very special place that has molded both my children so what better to have special, high level people come share their passions and roads to success. It was an honor to have our governor kick off this series”

Quotes from the student interviews and Governor Moore were featured in coverage by PGCTV.

ENGINEERING STUDENTS

Take on Real-World Challenge with Portable Water Filter Project

Students in Bishop McNamara’s Engineering for US All (e4usa) Program recently faced a real-world challenge: design and build a portable water filter capable of purifying contaminated stream water during a simulated three-day hiking trip. Using common materials like rocks, coffee filters, and cheesecloth, students were tasked with removing dirt, chemicals, and bacteria to create a functional filtration system. Before beginning the hands-on portion of the project, students studied the United Nations' sustainability goals related to clean water and explored how water filtration systems work both globally and at home. They then applied core engineering concepts as they moved through each phase of the project: brainstorming, prototyping, testing, refining, and presenting their final designs.

Through this engaging, interdisciplinary project, McNamara’s e4usa students not only developed practical skills but also gained a deeper understanding of how engineering can solve real-world problems.

Senior Zen Craft ’25 reflected on the experience:

“The objective was to create a water filter that would last us three days. We had to clear out different materials, chemicals, and bacteria from the stream water. When we poured the water and removed a lot of the bacteria and dirt, even though it still wasn't as good as we wanted it to be, it was still a success.”

Gregory Butler, who serves as our mentor engineer for the class and is a proud grandfather and father of McNamara alumni, attended multiple class sessions to observe student presentations and offer feedback.

“Each group presented their introduction, methodology, motivation, and the types of materials they used,” he shared. “They discussed their results, conclusions, and recommendations. It was heartening to see the thought and effort that went into each project—the trial and error, the use of engineering principles. I was truly impressed by the diligence and professionalism of all the students.”

Engineering teacher Dr. Abigail Greer added: “Students spent time before the project learning about the UN sustainability goals around clean water and how filtration works in our homes and across the world. After testing their prototypes and learning how to evaluate water quality, they will conclude the unit with poster presentations highlighting their design process and final results.”

BMHS Competes in Fire Protection Engineering Challenge

Bishop McNamara High School students recently participated in the Fire Protection Engineering Challenge, a unique STEM competition for high schoolers in Maryland, D.C., and Virginia. Hosted by the University of Maryland and the ATF National Laboratory Center, the challenge guided students through a months-long process: an opening session, group activities with mentors, instructional videos, and extensive design and testing phases—all leading to the Final Burn Event in April.

Students started their builds in early 2025 as a part of one section of the e4usa (Engineering for Us All) course. The class comprises students in grades 9-12 who all worked on collaborative teams to create a system to detect, alert, and extinguish a fire. Students also had to create a believable apartment for the burn to take place

in. Bishop McNamara had three teams that competed in the burn day competition.

“We had a great time at the ATF National Laboratory Center,” said Brittingham Barnett ’25. “Although my team didn’t put out the fire, we were proud of our unique design and had a blast learning valuable lessons about fire safety.”

Adding to the McNamara family approach, the class was fortunate to have Lindsey Newman ‘20 as their fire protection engineering mentor. Lindsey met with the class to introduce the topic and then held virtual meetings with the group to advise on the design.

The challenge gave students hands-on experience in engineering, teamwork, and scientific problem-solving while exploring careers in fire protection.

The University of Maryland is the only undergraduate institution in the country to offer a major in Fire Protection Engineering—a sought-after specialty in which Bishop McNamara alumni Lindsey Newman ’20 and Madison Lee ’12 proudly earned their degrees.

In Loving Memory of His Holiness Pope Francis

The Bishop McNamara High School community joins Catholics around the world in mourning the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. As the first Jesuit pope and the first from the Americas, Pope Francis led the Church with humility, courage, and a profound compassion for all of humanity. His papacy was marked by a steadfast commitment to mercy, justice, and care for the marginalized, values that lie at the heart of our Holy Cross tradition.

Pope Francis’s teachings continue to challenge and inspire us. “We must restore hope to young people, help the old, be open to the future, spread love… be poor among the poor… include the excluded and preach peace.” These words guide our mission at Bishop McNamara, where faith is not only taught but lived out in action.

This year, our students exemplified that mission during a visit to Angel’s Watch Women’s Shelter. There, they prepared and served meals, organized donated items, and supported the shelter’s daily operations—all while engaging in meaningful conversations with residents and staff. The visit was not a one-time event, but part of a broader culture of service at Bishop McNamara. Each week, students participate in a variety of outreach programs across the region, supporting shelters, food banks, parishes, schools, and community organizations. These experiences cultivate empathy, leadership, and a

deep understanding of the Gospel call to serve “the least of these.”

Pope Francis was also a prophetic voice for environmental justice. He reminded us in 2015 that “the relationship between man and nature [must not] be driven by greed... but [guided by] the divine harmony between beings and creation.” Our Science and Ecology Explorers (SEE) Club puts this call into action. The club leads yearround sustainability efforts on campus, including garden planting and beautification projects. They are committed to educating our community through an Earth Day awareness campaign, posters that students created and displayed throughout the school to raise awareness about climate issues. They also host events where they teach students about sustainable food and cooking more plant-based recipes. Through their efforts, they are not only protecting the environment but also educating peers about their responsibility as stewards of creation. We are deeply grateful for the life and ministry of Pope Francis. His legacy challenges us to walk boldly in faith, to serve with joy, and to pursue justice and peace with courage. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may we honor his memory by continuing to build a community rooted in love, inclusion, and the transformative power of faith in action.

Giving Back to the Community: Students Serve at Angel’s Watch Women’s Shelter

At the beginning of the school year, Bishop McNamara students kicked off their commitment to service by volunteering at Angel’s Watch Women’s Shelter. With a strong sense of compassion, they spent the day making a meaningful impact on the lives of women in need.

During their visit, students assisted with meal preparation, organized books, and provided essential support for the shelter’s daily operations. Their efforts went beyond just lending a hand— they brought hope and kindness to those who needed it most.

This experience truly embodied the school’s dedication to faith in action. At Bishop McNamara, service is at the heart of everything we do, and our students continually strive to live out the Holy Cross values by helping those in their community.

Reflections on Kairos

Retreat season in the Campus Ministry Office has come to an end for the 2024–2025 academic year!

Although all retreats require significant time and attention, Junior retreats are the most demanding for the Campus Ministry department and the entire campus. However, this is a once-in-alifetime experience for our students and is well worth the effort.

The Junior retreat is called Kairos, which means “sacred time” in Greek. It is a three-day overnight retreat that focuses on the Holy Cross pillar of educating both the mind and the heart. Because Kairos is an overnight retreat, the Junior class is divided into quarters, and Kairos is held four separate times to ensure each group is a manageable size for the planned activities.

Students disconnect from their phones and dive deep into what it means to have a friendship with God and how they experience God’s love. This is facilitated through talks delivered and prepared by peer ministers (seniors who applied to an elective theology class focusing on leadership development and spirituality), small group sharing led by peer ministers, large group discussions, paired sharing, individual reflection time, talks given by faculty and staff, as well as prayer, Mass, icebreaker activities, and free time. There is a lot packed into the three-day experience!

Although retreatants highlight different aspects of Kairos as their favorite, a common theme we hear from students is their appreciation for the opportunity to build deeper relationships with classmates and form new friendships with peers they hadn’t previously connected with. Without the distraction of technology, students find simple and joyful ways to spend free time—playing Uno, chatting over hot chocolate and nearly bottomless cookies, shooting basketball, or walking the retreat house property to take in views of the Potomac River.

It’s hard to choose a favorite part of the retreat as a campus minister, but one powerful moment comes at the end when students build each other up through affirmations. I am always amazed and humbled by how thoughtful they are—the important traits and small details they notice in one another’s lives and choose to honor. Many of these students have never even shared a class, yet Kairos gives them the chance to speak and to listen deeply. This moment of affirmation is where their care for each other shines most clearly, and it is a beautiful example of what it truly means to be part of the McNamara family.

Thank you to all the family members, coaches, teachers, chaperones, and administrators who make this experience possible! Please keep us in your prayers as we begin planning for the 2025–2026 academic year!

New Tabernacle

Mr. Samuel Hardwick - Assistant Director of Campus Ministry

On April 2nd, the Campus Ministry team was excited to unveil a brand new tabernacle to adorn the Moreau Chapel. A tabernacle in the Catholic Church is a fixed, locked box usually set behind the altar where the consecrated hosts, the Eucharist, are stored after Mass. We come to the chapel and can look towards the tabernacle to know and feel the presence of the Lord in the space. This new tabernacle was completed by the F.C. Ziegler company, headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after extensive conversations regarding its design. In designing the tabernacle, the team considered what aspect of our school, the Holy Cross charism, and our shared Catholic faith, would be important to highlight in finding the perfect design. After prayerful discernment, it was decided that a gold design would be the perfect way to draw the attention of all entering the chapel straight to the very center of our faith. With the sun often shining brightly through the large windows of the chapel, the gold would dazzle and shine brightly. On the door itself, the very core of our school's mission was to be shown. The cross and anchor, along with our school motto, "To Think With Christ." This was the perfect design for the tabernacle, bringing together the symbol of the Congregation of the Holy Cross and BMHS' unique place within the charism, from this quote from Bishop John McNamara.

At the unveiling Mass on April 2nd, Father Robert Boxie, III, member of the Board of Directors, exhorted the other board members, faculty, and staff present to look upon the tabernacle as the very center of our school. The chapel is rightly placed right in the middle of our campus, and at the center of the chapel, our new tabernacle. But, Father Boxie reminded us, it is not really about what's on the outside of this beautiful box, but what it holds that is truly worth adoring. Jesus, fully present in the Eucharist, resides in the tabernacle, and likewise, we are called to receive Christ and, in becoming LIVING tabernacles, we bring the hope of Christ with us always.

The morning began with the induction of the 2013 WCAC Boys Outdoor Track & Field Team, coached by Keith Chapman. This powerhouse squad earned an incredible 118 points in championship competition and left an indelible mark on Mustang athletics.

The first individual inductee of the evening was Diamond Adams '10, who played Varsity Tennis during her time at McNamara. Adams was named 1st Team Washington Post All-Met and 1st Team All-WCAC in 2009, and she was the WCAC #1 Singles Champion that same year, finishing her senior season undefeated. In 2010, she received the Frank Neitzey Female Athlete of the Year award and went on to receive a full scholarship to St. John’s University.

Next was Matt Goldsmith '10, a star in both Football and Basketball, but most notably on the football field. His accolades included 1st Team All-WCAC, All-PG County, All-State, and Washington Post All-Met honors in 2009. Goldsmith played professionally in the AFL and CFL after earning a scholarship to Illinois State University.

Chris Townsend '09 was honored for his relentless contributions to McNamara Football, including two consecutive Washington Post All-Met selections, 250+ career tackles, and leadership that carried the Mustangs to three straight WCAC playoff appearances. He later earned a full scholarship to Prairie View A&M University and started on a Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Team.

In a special return to the Hall of Fame community, Brandon Coleman '10, a former NFL wide receiver and Hall of Fame inductee, attended the ceremony to support the newly inducted athletes. Coleman reflected on his own journey, crediting coaches like Bryce Bevill, Roland “Bubba” Grimes '82, Tony Mammano '82, Rod Chapman '87, and teachers like Miss Keller for preparing him for success both on and off the field. When asked by McNamara teacher and media personality Lou Holder whether playing in the NFL matched his childhood dreams, Coleman replied:

Taylor Brown '11, one of the most decorated players in Girls Basketball history at McNamara, was also inducted. Her numerous honors included Washington Post Player of the Year, WCAC Player of the Year, MD Gatorade Player of the Year, and Parade All-American. After starting at Georgetown, she completed her career at George Mason University as the program’s third all-time scorer before launching a professional career overseas. Reflecting on the evening, Brown said, “I worked extremely hard—but a lot of athletes do. For me to get recognition for it, it really is a blessing.”

The ceremony also recognized Coach Angelina Diehlmann, LR '85, for her exceptional coaching career with McNamara’s Varsity Softball team. Coach Diehlmann tallied over 100 career wins and was named both WCAC and PG County Coach of the Year in 2018. Her contributions extended beyond the field as she also earned several teaching honors, including Archdiocese of Washington Teacher of the Year.

This year’s Tony Johnson Unsung Hero Award was presented to Assistant Football Coach Charles Owens Sr., who has quietly and consistently impacted the Mustang football program through his unwavering dedication and mentorship.

"The dream came true, but the reality exceeded the dream. Catching a touchdown pass from Drew Brees in the New Orleans Superdome, with 'Who Dat Nation' screaming—it’s surreal. That moment was beyond anything I ever imagined growing up."

Students in Bishop McNamara’s WMAC broadcasting program played an important role in the evening, filming interviews with the inductees. JarEl Watts-Jackson '25, Jackson Crenshaw '25, Darrell Barr-Jones ‘25, Leonard Lancaster Jr '26, and Sophia Delarosa '26 managed the camera, boom mic, and overall crew responsibilities to ensure the success of the project, while Khadi Beverly-Diallo '25 conducted several of the interviews, asking inductees what a Hall of Fame moment meant to them.

Coach Angelina Diehlmann shared:

“I’m just a math teacher and a coach, so I never expected this. I’m so humbled. I’ve coached some amazing players, and this honor really emphasizes the value of coaching. I couldn’t have done this without the incredible coaching staff I worked with. I’m just truly blessed.”

Diamond Adams reflected:

"It’s an incredible moment, an incredible victory. It shows we were able to persevere through trials and tribulations. Behind-the-scenes hard work can lead to public success."

When Khadi asked Diamond if there was a coach or teacher who influenced her, she responded:

“Coach Ron Jackson was a huge influence. He played an integral role in my decision to come to McNamara and in my success here.”

She also spoke about her legacy:

"Legacy means everything to me. I’m inspired by my parents and want to set an example for my younger siblings. I even joked that if Mr. Keithline offers free tuition for legacy Hall of Famers, maybe my kids will be here someday!"

Khadi also spoke with former McNamara athlete Ernest Jenkins '6, asking what legacy meant to him. Jenkins replied:

"Legacy is everything—my older brother went here, my younger sister went here. The Jenkins name runs deep. This place was a second home, and to leave my mark here is truly an honor."

The 2024 Hall of Fame Ceremony was a celebration of talent, perseverance, and the deep-rooted community that makes Bishop McNamara a place of lasting impact. Congratulations to all the honorees, past and present, whose legacies continue to inspire future generations of Mustangs.

Breaking this long-held school record proves to me that there is promise in uncertainty, because something I never thought I’d be capable of participating in brought great reward, not only statistically, but personally. I am much tougher than I was before I fell in love with lacrosse and have become a more confident woman knowing that the ‘impossible’ can be defied with hard work and confidence. Thank you, Coach Greer, Coach Lailah, Coach Trin, and Coach Alex, for your consistent support and motivation It is difficult to walk away from Tyoka Jackson Field because of all of the memories you’ve created for and with us.”

With over 650 wins in eleven years at the helm of the Team Takeover 17u Nike EYBL and the Team Takeover 8thgrade Nike Jr. EYBL teams, his expertise is undeniable. Having faced top-tier teams from states like California, Florida, and Texas, Coach James firmly believes that the talent in the greater Maryland–Washington D.C. area can consistently compete at the highest level.

Coach James believes that fostering a healthy relationship between his coaching staff and the players is key. “My staff and I work together to demand excellence both on and off the court,” he shares. “Excellence requires that you pay attention to the details, like getting to class on time, adhering to the rules and regulations of our school, and being respectful, while maintaining high-level grades. Work hard in practice, never quit on a play, and play hard, be scrappy, while playing tenacious defense."

COACH OF THE YEAR

Sonny Hicks - Track & Field (2nd Consecutive Year)

On May 17, 2025, the Bishop McNamara Boys Outdoor Track & Field team made history, capturing their first outright WCAC Championship title—the program’s first since a shared title in 1972.

Led by Coach Sonny Hicks '11, who was named WCAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, the Mustangs delivered a dominant team performance.

"One Team. One Family. One Goal."

That was the mindset all season long. “The boys came in with the mindset of not self, team—a mantra I preach daily,” said Coach Sonny. “They knew the target on their backs and showed up to train all year for this moment.” Key performances came from Ben Chandler '25, who placed in four open events, along with Messiah McKinley '25, Kingston Nkanu '25, Brandon Freeman '25, and standout freshman Jordin Williams '28. The meet came down to the final 4x400 relay, and the Mustangs delivered under pressure to clinch the championship.

“This one means a lot to me,” shared Coach Sonny, a proud BMHS alumnus. “To win a championship where I once ran, with a team that gave their all—it fills my heart with pride.”

Congratulations to the entire team on a historic season!

College-Bound Mustangs Reflect on Life After McNamara

Even after graduation, the McNamara spirit stays strong. Recent alumni Taelor Bridges '24 and Sydney Robinson '24—both college freshmen—returned to campus and shared how their new journeys are going and what they miss most about being Mustangs.

Taelor, now attending Temple University, shared:

“Things have been really good. I love Temple—it feels like a home away from home that reminds me of D.C. I needed the change, and this has been such a good fit for me. But I miss Mcnamara . That’s why I’m back today.”

Sydney, a freshman at Coppin State University, reflected:

“It’s been different, but I’m adjusting really well. I definitely miss everybody here. Oh my gosh—being in the choir last year—it’s wild how things change. But I’ve always loved choir, and McNamara will always be a part of me.”

The two came back to watch their former classmates perform in the annual BMHS Christmas Festival, cheering on the traditions and talents they once were part of.

Peter Luster '24 Reflects on McNamara’s Impact as He Thrives at UMBC

Peter Luster, a student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), credits Bishop McNamara for shaping his independent work ethic and preparing him for the challenges of college.

“McNamara helped me develop independence. The teachers were more hands-off, which was great because that’s exactly how college professors operate. They expect you to manage your own work, and McNamara’s environment gave me the skills I needed to succeed on my own.”

Currently maintaining a GPA of 3.6 at UMBC, Peter continues to appreciate the balance McNamara provided between support and autonomy, a foundation he now builds on in higher education.

Joshua Young '24 Grateful for McNamara’s Social and Academic Preparation

Joshua Young, a recent graduate of Bishop McNamara and current student at Gardner Webb University, is thankful for how McNamara prepared him for both academic and social success.

“I’m grateful for how McNamara prepared me, not just academically but socially. I had the chance to meet people from different backgrounds, cultures, and religions. It gave me a well-rounded experience and helped me feel confident being myself.”

Joshua’s time at McNamara gave him the skills to thrive in both the classroom and the diverse community he now embraces at college.

We’re proud of Joshua and all our alumni continuing their journeys with strength and confidence!

I’ve been teaching since the late ‘80s, and I truly believe students haven’t changed all that much. Sure, they may approach math differently now, but at the core, they still want to learn but more importantly they want to feel confident while doing it. I’m fully committed to their journey, not just through my teaching, but also by investing in them financially.

We feel incredibly fortunate and deeply blessed. It is both an honor and a privilege to support Bishop McNamara High School and its extraordinary mission. We have had the opportunity to witness firsthand the transformative impact this school has on the lives of young people— and it is nothing short of inspiring.

We wholeheartedly believe in the principle, “To whom much is given, much is required.” It is with that spirit that we give, knowing that our contribution is part of something greater. From the moment you walk through the doors of Bishop McNamara, there is a palpable sense of purpose, care, and community. Every person—students, faculty, and staff—demonstrates a sincere commitment to uplifting their neighbors and leading with compassion. When you look at the schools graduation rates, the remarkable colleges these students attend, and the tremendous scholarships they receive, it becomes abundantly clear: Bishop McNamara is not only educating students—it is developing great people.

STOCK DONATIONS

Gifts of appreciated securities are an excellent way to make a gift to BMHS. Donors receive a tax deduction for the full value of the stock on the day it is transferred to BMHS and they avoid taxes on capital gains.

DONOR ADVISED FUNDS

When processing a DAF grant through a charitable giving account, search for Bishop McNamara High School by tax ID number (52-0805939).

IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER

PAVER LEGACY

Pavers have been gifted to celebrate family, to honor a graduate or current student, in memory of loved ones, in honor of favorite teacher(s) or to commemorate a reunion.

As a graduate of the class of 1968, I can truthfully say that McNamara has given far more to me than I could ever possibly give back. The values instilled in me during my four years at McNamara have served me well, both in my personal life and in my professional career. I am so proud of what Bishop McNamara has done and continues to do in reinforcing those values and serving as an example for all who attend and for the entire community. I give because I want others to benefit from the same opportunities I enjoyed all those years ago.

Giving back means the world to me. I was blessed to be awarded with a scholarship throughout my time at Bishop McNamara, which helped lift an immense burden off my family. After my graduation, I felt it was important for me to do my part in helping out another family that may be in a similar situation. Giving this scholarship allows me to help out a family in need, along with remaining active within the Bishop McNamara community.

It is my honor and Godly duty to sponsor a scholarship in memory of my mother and family. I believe every child deserves access to a quality education, regardless of their financial background. Supporting student scholarships ensures that academically and athletically talented students have the opportunity to thrive in an environment that nurtures their potential. It’s incredibly meaningful to know that the Woodward Family scholarship helps open doors for students who might not otherwise have the chance.
