The Tanaka

Family Experience

“We were blessed during 8th grade as Davis was so Pro-Fenwick from the beginning and were thrilled when he made the choice to attend Fenwick. Our two youngest children have now embraced the Fenwick community too. From the beginning we wanted to help and promote Fenwick to current and future students, so we quickly became involved with many committees and events. It’s truly a family at Fenwick. The Fenwick family has personaly embraced our family as well. Through a cancer diagnosis and the tough times that have followed, the counselors, teachers, coaches, administration, and students have been overwhelmingly supportive to Davis and our family. At no point was I worried about how Davis would do at school. Not only do the students live out the powerful talons and the Catholic faith, but it extends to the Falcon parents. The school has rallied around us and that makes Fenwick very close to our hearts. We are better people with our Bishop Fenwick community, and I am proud to be a Falcon!!” Chris Tanaka, Proud Fenwick Parent

CAMPUS MINISTRY IMPACTS OUR STUDENTS’ DAILY LIVES!

As a Catholic school, Campus Ministry is an integral part of our school identity and thrives amid our students’ four-year high school experience. The programs presented seek to provide students the opportunity to grow in their faith and learn to integrate this faith into every part of their lives; helping them become authentic disciples of Christ, encompassing the four Falcon Talons of faith, compassion, integrity and service. As part of our students’ faith formation, they can participate in liturgical ministries and experience extremely impactful retreats each year which bring them into a deeper relationship with Christ and each other. Bishop Fenwick utilizes service as an integral part of the learning experience, creating life-long contributors to the community. You will witness the influence of our Campus Ministry throughout our community as it encompasses and nourishes the mind, body, and spirit within each student.

4 YEAR

ENGINEERING PROGRAM • Project Lead the Way allows • Engineering course offerings students to understand at Fenwick: engineering as well as careers o Introduction to Engineering and education options in o Principles of Engineering STEM fields o Civil Engineering and • Students are challenged Architecture to think critically, work o Digital Electronics collaboratively, and explore how math and science work in everyday life “After finding out that Bishop Fenwick is the only high school in the area that offers 4 full years of engineering classes through Project Lead the Way, I transferred to BFHS after freshman year. Since I took all 4 engineering courses, I was more prepared for college and military scholarship interviews during my senior year because I knew basic engineering knowledge to answer their questions. Not only has the PLTW program taught me engineering principles, but it has challenged me to solve problems, which will help me to be a better officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. I am confident that I am prepared for the academic rigors of my major in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering because of the hands-on learning in a small group setting with a chemical engineer as my teacher at Fenwick. Semper Paratus!” -Sarah Kaleta, Class of 2020

LET’S SOAR! Providing Programs & Resources To Help Falcons Soar. Flight School originates from a new FALCON approach to freshman and new student FLIGHT SCHOOL orientation. Flight School will begin with a day of Basic Training for all freshmen and other new students prior to the start of the school year. It will continue throughout the student’s career at Bishop Fenwick High School with utilization of “Advisory Flock Blocks” during the school day, twice a week. To allow for a smooth transition into high school and to create membership among students, each “flock” is comprised of five students from each grade level and one faculty advisor. Students will be members of the same flock all four years, and move into a mentor role within the flock their junior and senior years.

ASCA MODEL Students will be matched with one of three dynamic Counselors for the duration of their time at Fenwick. Counselors will support students with academic and study skills; social skills and selfadvocacy; exam/test prep; college and career planning; and course selection.

WHY COED? AT FENWICK...

• The coeducation environment reflects the family, higher education, social, and business environments that students will be in after high school • 99% of colleges/universities are now coed • Placing students in the coeducation environment encourages more holistic growth and development of their mind, body, and spirit • Males and females must co-exist and learn from each other with respect and collaboration opportunities for men and women to lead together as equals • Following recent studies and the successes we have witnessed with our students, we choose to continue our students’ growth in a coeducational environment at Bishop Fenwick High School
