Welcome to The Amat Family

Our Mission and Purpose Bishop Amat Memorial High School is a four-year co-educational Archdiocesan Catholic high school. The mission of the school is to form a faith-filled community and to provide a quality education that addresses the needs of a culturally and academically diverse student body. The school, working in partnership with parents and the community, promotes education in Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge by preparing students to embrace Gospel values, to respect themselves and others, to become life-long learners, and to contribute positively to the community. Bishop Amat High School offers a college prep curriculum in which students are prepared for continued instruction in institutions of higher learning. The instructional program is based on a solid foundation in the scholarly disciplines and together with the co-curricular and counseling programs, emphasizes the spiritual, personal, social, and physical development of the students.

A Message from the President - Mr. Richard P. Beck Dear Parents: Thank you for your interest in providing your son or daughter with a Bishop Amat High School education. For sixty-six years, we have remained steadfast in our partnership with parents to integrate Catholic values into the moral, academic, and social development of the young men and women we have been entrusted to educate. We are humbled by this responsibility and are honored by your consideration to become part of the Amat Family. Our curriculum challenges students to realize their full academic potential by offering a wide spectrum of core, accelerated, honors, and introductory college-level courses across all subject areas. Beyond the classroom, extracurricular opportunities abound for Lancers to participate as members of clubs, performance groups, scholastic organizations, and athletic teams that are as varied as the interests and talents possessed by our student body. All are encouraged to find their passion, get involved, and connect with other Lancers as an integral component of our educational program. Most significant to our mission, our students are called to develop in their faith through both prayer and service. Our theology courses, liturgies, retreats and Christian Service program are collective examples of the Catholic heritage inherent to our school and faith community. We welcome you and your prospective Lancer to review the contents of this information brochure and attend one of our open house, visit day or campus tour events. Bishop Amat is truly a special place and we look forward to welcoming your son or daughter as a member of our school family in the months to come!

A Message from the principal - Mr. Gabriel S. Escovar, '98 Dear Prospective Parents and Students: Thank you for considering Bishop Amat Memorial High School as a potential partner for your student’s education journey. Bishop Amat has proudly served the families of the San Gabriel Valley and beyond for more than sixty years by providing a Catholic education rooted in Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge. Bishop Amat has built its programs to meet the needs of its diverse student body. We feel thatone of the strengths of our curriculum is its breadth; this year we offer over 130 courses featuring 18 AP courses, 11 International Baccalaureate (I.B.) courses, and 17 honors courses. Every year, over 96% of our graduating class chooses to attend a college or university. Bishop Amat also offers a robust extracurricular experience for students. We encourage this involvement because these activities provide fulfillment and opportunities for growth that can’t be replicated in the classroom. Finally, we embrace that which truly separates us from our neighbors: our mission to educate your children in the Catholic faith tradition. Amat’s retreat programs, Christian service initiatives, theology curriculum, and opportunities for prayer grounds its students in Goodness and prepares them for life after high school. Thank you for exploring all that Bishop Amat Memorial High School has to offer!

"Through all the Honors, AP, and IB classes, Amat provides an academic environment that allows students to take the classes that will best prepare them for college. As someone who has taken a combination, I believe this school has really helped challenge students, making them adept in all fields.."

Lucas Serna, Class of '23 After Amat: Boston Conservatory at Berklee School Of Music

Counseling & Support Network Academic Counseling A four-year counselor is assigned to each student, helping create a positive relationship over four years between student and counselor. Throughout the year, counselors meet with students individually to assist them in choosing courses, track their academic progress, help them meet the challenges of their classes, and discuss opportunities that best suit their future plans.

Inclusion Program The school employs a Learning Specialist and an assistant to support students with learning needs through the Inclusion Program. The goal of this program is to build self-esteem and self-advocacy skills in the student as well as foster academic success in the school’s college preparatory environment.

College Counseling Bishop Amat's College Counseling Center provides students with grade-appropriate information about preparing for college, schedules on-campus college visits, and provides information about financial aid and scholarships.

Social/Emotional Counseling Students can benefit from the counseling services provided by Catapult Learning at Bishop Amat which include individual sessions, small group activities, and even class-sized group sessions. Our on-campus counselor understands the significance of academic progress and works closely with each student's teacher to schedule counseling sessions in a way that minimizes any interference with their academic program.

Student-Athlete College Eligibility The Bishop Amat program also offers student athletes services and tools to help them understand college and academic eligibility requirements. In addition to providing them with information about the NCAA Clearinghouse's academic standards, we assist them in navigating the recruitment process. This valuable assistance has enabled many students to continue their athletic careers in college.
