Financial Advisers - A Dying Profession?

On this last point, a recent survey stated of the 26,000 advisers, 29% are due to retire in the next five years and 58% are due to retire in the next ten years. This is mainly due to the average age of an adviser being 58 and the high costs of being an adviser which is expected to continue to rise and is already a struggle for very small companies.

This time Katie is talking about the the latest Google update and what you need to know to make sure your website stays/begins to rank highly.

oogle always brings in new updates, however, some are larger than others and the one recently released on 24th September was a ‘core update’.

Why Google Update their Search Criteria Google are forever trying to prove that they are the experts online, and as such they have to keep up to with, and ahead of new technology, trends and the way users want their experience to be online.

The updates are designed to ensure that overall, they are delivering on their mission to present relevant and authoritative content to searchers. These core updates may also affect Google Discover.

How to Find Out About Updates Big updates are now being announced through their Twitter account ahead of time.

How Quickly Do Updates Take Affect?

Google has said that it can take 42 hours for the updates to take affect for the majority of people, however it can take a little longer, as they often run other small updates at the same time, therefore they don’t tend to give 6

completion dates.

Will the Update Affect Your Website?

Google broad core updates do typically produce some widely notable affects. Some sites may note drops or gains during them.

However if yours drops it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to fix anything, but if you do, you don’t want to fix the wrong thing and therefore it is important you are aware of all the facts.

Reassessing Content after Core Update There’s nothing in a core update that targets specific pages or sites. Instead, the changes are about improving how their systems assess content overall.

These changes may cause some pages that were previously underrewarded to do better.

Focus on content Whether your website pages drop on Google or not, Google recommend focusing on ensuring you’re offering the best content you can, as that is what their algorithms seek to reward.

After a core update how long does it take for a site to recover, if it improves content?

Content that was impacted by one might not recover - assuming improvements have been made until the next broad core update is released.

However, Google constantly make updates to their search algorithms, including smaller core updates. Google don’t announce all of these because they’re generally not widely noticeable. Still, when released, they can cause content to recover if improvements warrant.

Improvements made by site owners aren’t a guarantee of recovery, nor do pages have any static or guaranteed position in their search results. If there’s more deserving content, that will continue to rank well with their systems.

Google Isn’t Human Search engines like Google do not understand content the way human beings do. Instead, it looks for signals they can gather about content and understand how those correlate with how humans assess relevance. How pages link to each other is one well-known signal that we use. But we use many more, which we don’t disclose to help protect the integrity of our results.

Google take in feedback, do more testing and keep working to improve their ranking systems.

This work on our end can mean that content might recover in the future, even if a content owner makes no changes. In such situations, our continued improvements might assess such content more favourably.

ST NEOTS FESTIVAL Every issue our cover stars are a local individual or group with an inspirational story to share.

When we started creating this issue we were delighted to hear about the exciting news that a new festival is due to hit July next year - St Neots Festival.

Y

ou have probably heard the rumours about the next big thing to hit St Neots next year - St Neots Festival.

We were intrigued to find out more and so contacted Ben Pitt, the lead organiser, and the rest of the current volunteer committee to find out more.

community centre also played a crucial role in defining how Love’s Farm was seen by the wider St Neots population. Back in 2012, Love’s Farm (perhaps unfairly) had a reputation for antisocial behaviour. Today it’s widely recognised as having a really strong sense of community. Love’s Farm House is a key part of this narrative.

Ben Pitt St Neots is a large town with a growing population, and it’s about time it had its own music festival.

That was the starting point for Ben Pitt, who joined St Neots Town Council as a councillor in May 2018.

Ben moved to Love’s Farm in 2012 with his family. It was a decision mostly borne out of convenience, with St Neots’ fast links to London, Cambridge and the North, but he quickly came to love the town. The fabulous parks – particularly Priory Park – and the great sense of community on Love’s Farm meant his family was quick to put down roots.

St Neots Festival - Something For Everyone St Neots Festival aims to be much more than a concert in the park. For starters, it’s an opportunity to broaden the cultural experiences available to residents, from rock and pop to jazz and classical, theatre, dance, visual art and experiences that defy categorisation. There’ll be lots of workshops and activities to take part in, lots for children to do and delicious food and drink.

The fact that the festival is free to attend and on people’s doorsteps means they will have a chance to see, hear and do things they might otherwise not have tried.

The festival also seeks to create a fresh narrative for the town.

St Neots is a picturesque market town with lots going for it – including some great events such as Armed Forces Day and the Christmas Lights Switch On – but ask someone from a neighbouring town what St Neots is known for and they might struggle to answer.

Ben’s Experience Since 2014 Ben has worked with other local residents to set up and manage Love’s Farm House community centre, where he is chair of trustees. For him, Love’s Farm House is a perfect example of how residents can take charge of local assets and build a community for themselves. The

Putting St Neots on the Map Ben’s vision for the festival is that it becomes known throughout Cambridgeshire and beyond, helping to develop an image for St Neots that is fresh, creative, innovative and fun.

The town centre already feels like it’s on the up, with new shops, restaurants and cafés opening, and there’s a vibrant creative sector lead by the Neotists – a community of creative professionals living and working in the town (see www.neotists.co.uk for more information). The festival aims to bring these strands together and build on them to create something truly inspiring.

Getting Started In Autumn 2018, planning started in earnest. Ben invited a group of like-minded volunteers to help shape the festival, including Neotists founders Richard and Clair Slade.

That team has steadily grown and currently stands at 16 people.

Location, Location, Location Priory Park was chosen for its proximity to the station and its amazing trees that naturally break up the park into zones, and the date is set at 4 and 5 July 2020.

Incorporating St Neots High Street Part of the vision is to bring St Neots High Street to the park, inviting various cafés and restaurants to hold pop-up food stalls that connect the festival to the town.

Neotists Another part of the vision is to draw on the talents of the Neotists members to help deliver a festival that celebrates and promotes St Neots’ burgeoning creative scene.

Zero Carbon Initiative This initiative will hopefully grow if the festival continues into its second, third and subsequent years. That’s why Ben and the team are pledging to match St Neots Town Council’s commitment to being fully carbon neutral by 2030 – and they are asking other businesses in St Neots to make the same pledge.

They believe that tackling climate change is everyone’s responsibility, but it’s harder to take action when there’s a sense that no one else is bothering.

Richard Slade Raising Funds and Gathering Support The next stage for the festival team is to raise funds and gather support from local businesses and councils.

The response so far from staff and councillors at St Neots Town Council and Huntingdonshire District Council has been overwhelmingly positive, and Ben and the team are looking forward to working closely with them and local businesses to bring this vision to fruition.

They also need the support of residents to deliver the festival.

Seeking Volunteers The hope is for the event to recruit 500 volunteers, giving up a couple of hours each over the weekend of 4-5 July 2020 to keep things running smoothly.

WHAT’S ON GUIDE

KIMBOLTON LIVE This issue we have changed things slightly to give you an insight into the recent music event in Kimbolton starring The Bellamy Brothers and Ronan Keating!!

I

t isn’t everyday you can see Ronan Keating and the Bellamy Brothers so close to home, but that is exactly what happened on Friday 30th and Saturday 31st August, at Kimbolton Castle.

The entire weekend was sponsored by our legal and money experts Beacon Wealth Group, so if we weren’t already intrigued to know more, we certainly had to be there to support our B Inspired Family.

Country at the Castle was the only chance this year in the UK to see the Bellamy Brothers perform, as they head to Europe as part of their 2019 tour.

UK fans would know them best for their 1970’s hit “Let Your Love Grow” and their 1979 UK number 1 hit “If I said you had a beautiful 14

Joining The Bellamy Brothers was Ashley Campbell, Katy Hurt and the CC Smugglers.

We were fortunate to meet the acts and everyone was truly down to earth and became a part of the event, not just through performing, but many also entered the crowds and signed the giant Live letters that Beacon Wealth Group had installed.

Ronan Keating Live took place on the Saturday, and was the last evening of music.

Ronan was formerly a member of Boyzone who achieved success all over Europe, with their first musical success in 1994 when they hit the top three for the first time, with ‘Love Me For a Reason’. After five years Ronan pursued a solo career, and in 2000 deputed his

self titled album. Since then his highlights have included singing with Elton John at Madison Square Garden, singing for the Pope, hosting TV programmes and being a judge on X Factor in Australia.

Supporting Ronan was Joe Bygraves and Katie Kittermaster.

People were queuing to get in and have the best seats/places to stand hours before the event opened, and it was a joy to see the huge surge once the gates had opened.

Beacon Wealth Group were holding a free raffle for a free Fortnum and Mason Hamper each night, and both winners were thrilled with their goodies.

Everyone in attendance had a fantastic time, with many already asking who will be performing next year...

Beacons Family FUNdraiser

S

t Neots Market Square was taken over on Friday 20th September, as it was host to a fantastic fundraiser to raise funds for the The Woodlands Centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

Beacon Wealth Group, our legal and money experts were responsible for this event and found huge support from many local businesses who took part by donating prizes to the raffle, and joining the events activities on the market square.

The Beacon team were racing road bikes v static bike to see who could complete their target first, it was a tough fight but the road bikes won. - Congratulations!! (They completed 55 miles in around 5.5 hours!)

With special mention to the local fire station who arrived let children to explore their fire engine and Emmabella Princesses, the event gained a nice amount of interest and raised over ÂŁ1,000! Money still coming in, at time of printing.

e were honoured to be a judge at this fantastic event. Despite it being the very first time they have held it, is was very well attended and judging was hard in many of the categories.

A big congratulations to everyone who took part and won their respective categories and a big shout out goes to children winners: - Marcus Holdaway winner of Animal made from vegetables - Sophie Moule, winner of both brownies and cookies - Polly Holdaway, winner of best picture of items grown in the garden And the adult Best in Show winner Sue Jakes.

With over 20 teams taking part, everyone worked really hard in the heats, and winners were crowned as Wyton Warriors.

As well as the race there were fair ground rides, stalls and entertainment for all.

WestFest

A

free music festival took Hail Weston by storm.

Taking place 9th -10th August at The Royal Oak, the music festival had something for everyone, both old and young.

Children were playing in the sandpit, drawing on the chalkboards, and sliding down the slide, whilst those slightly older were enjoying the music, ale festival and food. An amazing turn out and event.

Huntingdon Carnival

O

nce again everyone took to the streets in Huntingdon to celebrate this great local tradition.

Coupled with Live In The Park, this weekend event was very popular.

The favourites were there again this year, including Noddy, Thomas The Tank Engine and Carnival Court. These were joined by bagpipers, horse drawn carriages, majorettes, Oompa Loompas, Power Rangers and many other fantastic fancy dress outfits.

St Neots Mayor’s Charity Golf Day

S

t Neots Town Mayor hosted the annual Charity Golf Day which is designed to help raise funds for the Mayors chosen charities.

Taking place on Thursday 8th August, it was a day long event at Wyboston Lakes, with many teams who entered.

Winners of the day were Magners 1 with 135 points, second RAF Wyton with 129 points and third, Magners 2 with 128 points.

Featuring face painting, balloon modelling, crafts and pumpkin trail for kids. Kids activities free.

The story so far:- Alex and Tom have taken a long coil of hosepipes up to the clouds as they hope they can use water to power the cloud-making machine. Billy, Danny and Pete have found the beginning of the hose in the kitchen of number 52 and have turned the tap off. Can Alex and Tom turn the tap back on and will water be the correct fuel for the cloud-making machine?

Part Nineteen “How long are we going to wait?” Pete had been curled up under the kitchen table for a long time and longed to stretch his body. “As long as it takes.” Billy answered. Pete thought it was alright for him as he was standing up behind the kitchen door.

He looked over at Danny who had found a good spot under the kitchen worktop, where the washing machine used to be. He looked very comfortable and had closed his eyes. Pete thought he was probably asleep. Trust him to get the smallest hiding place; he was sure this was the smallest kitchen table in the world.

“What’s that?” Pete jumped as a loud crashing noise came from

upstairs.

“Sounds like Alex and Tom’ve fallen down the chimney, ha ha, serves ‘em right. They must’ve got fed up waiting for us, or got scared being on the roof, ha ha.

Won’t be much longer now boys and we’ll have our fight at last, I can’t wait can you?”

Billy looked at Pete. “No, can’t wait.” Pete tried to sound mean, but he really couldn’t wait to uncurl his body from its uncomfortable position.

Billy looked at Danny who still had his eyes closed. “Danny!”

Billy said, but Danny remained motionless. “DANNY!” Billy shouted and Danny jumped, lifted his head and smashed it into the side of the kitchen unit.

He’d thought he was in his bed at home and had tried to look at his bedside clock to see what the time

was.

Billy chuckled and Danny rubbed the side of his head.

“Good of you to join us. Sounds like Alex and Tom have fallen down the chimney.” Billy laughed and Danny sleepily joined in.

Upstairs Tom’s previous brave feelings were quickly disappearing. “What are we going to do?” He asked. “They might not still be here.”

Alex answered, more in hope than in conviction. “They might’ve just turned off the tap and gone, or it might not even be them, the hose might’ve fallen off the tap or something.”

They walked out of the bedroom and stood at the top of the stairs. “Listen.” They both stood still. “I can’t hear anything.”

Said Tom. “Exactly.” Said Alex.

“If they were here we’d be able to hear them wouldn’t we?”

Very cautiously they both began descending the stairs.

“Are you sure they came down here?” Mr Major asked the bird lady as they walked down the alleyway between number 52 and number 54 Barclay Road.

“Of course I’m sure I was watching them like a hawk.” “Yes, instead of watching the road.”

KIDS CORNER - STORY

Mr Major glared at the bird lady, who looked embarrassed about the soaking she had given him and his car. “Yes, I’ve already apologised for that. Anyway I’m sure everything will dry in no time with this glorious sunshine we’re having.” Mr Major looked down at his wet shorts and wasn’t so sure.

“Well, this is a dead end so where are they then?” They both looked at the wooden slats all around them. “Oh look, this gate’s not on the latch.” Mr Major pushed the gate open with the tip of his right index finger and they entered the garden.

“Well, they’re not in here either.” He looked accusingly at the bird lady as if she’d made up the whole incident of chasing naughty boys with a hosepipe.

“You’re lucky it’s not tomorrow you know, there’s a nationwide hosepipe ban starts at midnight tonight, so if it had been tomorrow I’d have had to report you for illegal use of a hose.”

The bird lady shrugged her shoulders and wondered what he was talking about. “Midnight?

Who wants to water their garden at midnight?” Mr Major was about to explain when he noticed the back door of the house was slightly open.

Alex and Tom were now in

the hallway and walking in slow motion towards the kitchen.

Only a few more steps and they could turn the tap back on and go back to the clouds.

Alex stopped by the kitchen door which was ajar as the hosepipe had stopped it closing.

Billy indicated to Pete and Danny to join him behind the door so they would be in a good position to grab Alex and Tom. Pete was so relieved to be able to leave his hiding place and stretch his body. He enjoyed the sensation of swinging his arms around in circles.

“Good idea, let’s all limber up this could be hard work.” Billy said a little too loudly.

Alex looked round at Tom but he’d already heard Billy and was halfway up the stairs. Alex ran after him. He’d already been through enough today and wasn’t in the mood for a fight.

“What in blazes do you think you boys are doing in here?” Mr Major had pushed the kitchen door open and was watching the backs of Billy, Danny and Pete as they all swung their arms in circles. They brought their arms back to their sides and very slowly turned round.

“I might’ve guessed it was you three. You can’t use someone’s house as a, as a…” Mr Major wasn’t at all sure what he had just witnessed. “..a den.”

“But no one lives here.” Billy protested. “Is it raining outside?”

He added as he looked at Mr Major’s wet clothes.” “This property belongs to someone Billy Weston, and how many times have I told you to call me Sir?” Mr Major was the Head Teacher of Hollyfield School and he was used to dealing with all three boys during term time.

“But it was unlocked, SIR.” Billy snarled. “Come on; come on, William Weston, Daniel Fletcher and Peter Manning, out of this house.” He gestured at the back door and all three boys pushed passed the bird lady, who was hopping from one leg to the other in glee.

‘At last these boys will be disciplined,’ she thought.

“Right, we’ll go to your house first William, tell your Mother what’s been going on, then yours Daniel and then yours Peter and then I’ll get the locksmith to secure that back door.”

They all marched through the garden gate and along the alleyway. The bird lady slammed the back door, closed the garden gate and practically skipped down the alleyway and back to her house.

“That sounded like Mr Major.”

Alex said as he joined Tom upstairs. “Don’t be silly, we’re not at school now.” Tom retorted.

“I hope it was though, he won’t take any nonsense from them.”

They heard the back door slam shut. “They’ve gone.” Alex and Tom looked through the bedroom window to check and watched the three bullies walking slowly away, closely followed by Mr Major.

“Told you it was Mr Major.”

Alex said as they walked back downstairs. Alex pushed the kitchen door open and was very relieved to see the hose still attached to the tap.

Mr Major had been so incensed at finding the three bullies in the house that he’d failed to notice the hosepipe.

Alex turned the tap back on and grinned at Tom. “Right, now let’s get back up to the clouds and see if it works.”
