Nature, extraordinary landscapes, stunning places and unforgettable corners. Perfect for letting go of accumulated tension, releasing adrenaline, relaxing and feeling pure freedom. This is Orduña territory.
Athousand possibilities for nature activities: hiking, trekking, mountain climbing, potholing, caving, hot-air ballooning, paragliding, pitch & putt golf, climbing, canyoning, mountain biking, Nordic walking... And most of them can be done starting from the old town itself.

Hiking And Mountain
The crest of the two mountain ranges that surround the valley of Orduña and Arrastaria is an extraordinary area for trekking of low to medium difficulty. The peaks of San Pedro-Askuren, Txarlazo, Bedarbide, Iturrigorri, Ungino and Eskutzi await, as well as the route that leads to the Nervión waterfall, the highest waterfall in Western Europe.
Canyoning
The valley is home to a surprising and wild landscape. Ideal for beginners in canyoning. Tertanga offers a small but beautiful and unique cliff that looks like something out of a fairy tale.
Ballooning And Paragliding
Due to its orography and location at the confluence of two climates, Orduña is one of the oldest and most famous flying areas in the whole peninsula. Sierra Salvada, because of its peculiar geological formation, is ideal for the initiation and practice of aerial sports.
The valley is a privileged place for balloon take-offs. It is also an excellent opportunity to enjoy the aerial view of the historic centre of the mediaeval town of Orduña and the spectacular views of the depression of the valley of Arrastaria and Orduña. They are also considered to be one of the first paragliding flying areas on the peninsula.
It is a vision that is only available to the vultures and birds of prey that inhabit Gibijo and Sierra Salvada. This is Orduña territory.

El sorprendente corazón de Karrantza se encuentra en torno al barrio de Concha, con sus casonas de indianos, como el Chalet Hernáiz, su proximidad a los macizos calizos y rutas megalíticas y un santuario de la carne de buey como Casa Garras. Al salir a la carretera general BI-630 pasaremos cerca del sorprendente Museo Dolomitas, la oficina de información turística y un balneario. Tomemos dirección noreste para subir La Escrita y admirar el paisaje. Bajamos dirección Bilbao y paramos en Trucíos , con su coqueta iglesia gótica de San Pedro de Romaña. Escuchemos el silencio.
En Traslaviña tomamos el desvío hacia Mercadillo y, de ahí, hacía Muskiz por la BI-2701. Continuamos dirección Gallarta por tierra de minería. En Gallarta enfilamos la N-634 para la playa de La Arena, cruzando bajo la A-8 y, en la rotonda de Kardeo, optamos por el ramal de la vieja N-639 que atraviesa el barrio de San Román, pasa por el cruce de Valle y desemboca en el coqueto puerto de Zierbena. De la montaña al puro mar atravesando las minas.
The surprisingly beautiful heart of Karrantza is to be found around the Concha neighbourhood, where you can find large houses of “indianos”(colloquial name for the Spanish emigrant in America who returned enriched), such as the Chalet Hernáiz, its proximity to the limestone massifs and megalithic routes, and a sanctuary for beef such as Casa Garras. On leaving the BI-630 main road, we pass near the surprising Dolomite Museum, the tourist information office and a spa. We head northeast to climb La Escrita and admire the scenery. We head down towards Bilbao and stop in Trucíos, with its charming Gothic church of San Pedro de Romaña. Let’s enjoy the silence.
At Traslaviña we take the turn-off towards Mercadillo and, from there, towards Muskiz on the BI-2701. We continue towards Gallarta through mining land. In Gallarta we take the N-634 towards the beach of La Arena, crossing under the A-8 and, at the roundabout in Kardeo, we opt for the branch of the old N-639 that crosses the district of San Román, passes through the Valle crossroads and ends at the charming Zierbena pass. From the mountains to the sea straight through the mines.
