It consists of twelve rooms and four appartments integrated into the structure of a traditional Basque farmhouse

The location, a hill that separates the marshes and beaches of Urdaibai from the interior of Biscay. A short walk through pastures and trees, listening to the sounds of birds, the distant echo of the cowbell that guides the flock of latxas sheep and the occasional mooing, brings us to the hill from where we can see, on one side, Bermeo, the fishing boats and the sea, and, on the other, Gernika and the green valleys. The route crosses a curious Roman archaeological site.

We could be quite pleased with Atxurra’s unique setting combined with the warmth of the service. But the team headed by Iñaki Madariaga is determined to find the absolute best. “We try to make the guests - a large number of them from central Europe and Madrid - feel that they are in a good hotel but at the same time that they feel at home.

Madariaga insists that service is a priority at Atxurra, as well as the quality of the materials and local foodstuffs. Furthermore, all the internal processes at Atxurra are carried out with an absolute commitment to sustainability.

“Those who come to Atxurra are middle-aged people who are looking for peace and quiet and to disconnect. We facilitate it for them”, smiles Madariaga.

This explains why a UCI ProTour team such as SKY chose to stay at Atxurra not long ago.
