Dans quel contexte un nouveau produit émerge-t-il ?

L’évolution d’un produit ou la création d’un nouveau produit dépendra de plusieurs facteurs : les besoins des clients en termes d’investissement, en priorité, ainsi que l’environnement réglementaire et économique. Nous analysons tous ces paramètres en permanence pour ensuite décider des améliorations à apporter, et les développer.

Quid de Flexicav, plan d’épargne en fonds d’investissement dont vous avez la charge depuis 2017 ?

L’enjeu était double : proposer une solution de diversification qui serait aussi une alternative au compte épargne classique dont le rendement est faible dans un contexte de taux d’intérêt négatif.

Au fil des années, nous avons rendu le produit plus attractif en y apportant de nouvelles fonctionnalités, et en permettant au client de le gérer en autonomie depuis notre plateforme de banque en ligne BILnet. Flexible, simple, et accessible même à partir de petits montants, Flexicav a

évolué de manière à apporter satisfaction aux clients et à améliorer sans cesse le service.

What spurs the development of new products?

The evolution or the creation of a new product will depend on various elements: it may be linked to a new customer need, a regulatory change, a new economic context, etc. Once this need has been highlighted by our sales staff, we analyse it, and then enter the cross-disciplinary project phase to develop the product.

What about Flexicav, the investment fund savings plan you have been in charge of since 2017?

The challenge was twofold: to offer a diversification solution that would also be an alternative to the traditional savings account, whose return is low in a context of negative interest rates.

We made the product more attractive by adding new functionalities, allowing the client to manage it independently. For each change we consider, we question its added value in terms of improvement.

Face aux évolutions d’un secteur bancaire strictement réglementé, la BIL met en œuvre Create Together 2025, stratégie dessinant, par des mesures concrètes et des investissements, la banque de demain.

La BIL a lancé sa stratégie Create Together 2025 en 2020. Ce plan de transformation ambitieux fait évoluer le fonctionnement de la BIL et son offre commerciale pour construire une banque encore plus solide et agile, avec la satisfaction de ses clients pour priorité.

Face aux changements structurels majeurs venant bousculer depuis plus de dix ans le secteur bancaire, la BIL se refuse à toute forme d’immobilisme.

Ces changements englobent le renforcement continu de la réglementation européenne encadrant l’activité des établissements financiers, qui conduit à davantage de transparence, de sécurisation des clients et investisseurs. À cela s’ajoute l’évolution de l’environnement économique international, marqué par une grande volatilité des marchés, qui, associée à la stratégie des taux d’intérêt négatifs pratiquée par la BCE pendant plusieurs années, a mis à mal l’attractivité de l’épargne classique

, banque durable et a nécessité de revoir l’offre en produits d’investissement. Enfin, la popularisation des outils digitaux a fait émerger de nouveaux modes de consommation cumulant flexibilité, rapidité, autonomie et simplicité d’utilisation.

Par ses infrastructures et services innovants fondés sur l’efficacité et l’amélioration de son offre, la BIL relève le défi de satisfaire, et même anticiper, les attentes et besoins de ses clients, faisant de chaque nouvelle contrainte un levier d’amélioration de ses services.

Une politique de développement durable ambitieuse Engagée pour un développement plus durable et une finance plus responsable, la BIL a défini sa politique ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) volontariste, adjointe, en 2021, au plan stratégique Create Together 2025.

Cette stratégie dessinant la BIL de demain laisse entrevoir une banque confiante en l’avenir. « Gouvernance durable et stratégie », « produits et services responsables et durables », « employeur responsable » et « impact positif sur l’économie et les communautés locales » sont les quatre piliers d’engagement de la BIL. Quarante initiatives de son programme Towards Sustainability ont déjà été lancées. Objectif ? S’assurer que les engagements pris sont intégrés dans les activités quotidiennes, puis efficacement suivis et gérés.

Ce programme mobilise, pour son application, l’ensemble des départements de la Banque.

Des avancées significatives Conformément au Règlement européen sur la publication d’informations en matière de durabilité dans le secteur des services financiers (SFDR), la BIL a publié, en mars 2021, sa déclaration d’investissement durable et responsable, et entamé en 2022 la collecte et l’évaluation des préférences de ses clients en matière de durabilité.

En ligne avec les recommandations de l’UE,

la BIL a aussi défini une cartographie des risques, qui a vocation à inspirer sa gouvernance des risques ESG. En parallèle, elle travaille au développement de son offre de services et produits à impact positif, et s’est engagée à réaliser une analyse d’impact ESG. Elle a également défini et publié son Green Bond Framework, document de référence encadrant ses futures émissions d’obligations vertes.

Ces obligations vertes garantiront aux investisseurs que leurs fonds sont utilisés à des fins durables et plus précisément, au financement exclusif de projets immobiliers efficaces sur le plan énergétique au Luxembourg.

Par ailleurs, quatre des fonds de sa gamme BIL Invest ont été labellisés ESG LuxFLAG, ce qui permet pour les clients, de concilier rentabilité, et de donner du sens à leurs investissements tout en faisant grandir leur patrimoine.

Autre avancée majeure, la politique d’investissement durable définie par la banque s’applique aussi à son propre portefeuille d’investissements, dont près de 15 % sont des obligations vertes, sociales et durables, part qui sera amenée à augmenter.

Enfin, la BIL a déployé, en 2021, la première étape de son parcours de formation durable et d’ici fin 2022, la majorité des collaborateurs aura été formée. Des opérations régulières contribuent par ailleurs à sensibiliser les équipes aux enjeux de développement durable. En permettant à chaque salarié de développer ses compétences et sa compréhension de ces questions au regard de son rôle au sein de l’organisation, la BIL fait en sorte qu’à terme, toute décision financière tienne compte des critères ESG. La Banque et ses collaborateurs soutiennent de nombreuses initiatives et ONG locales, principalement dans les domaines de la santé et de l’éducation.

Future banking, sustainable banking Faced with the changes in a strictly regulated banking sector, BIL is implementing Create Together 2025, a strategy that uses concrete measures and investments to create the bank of tomorrow.

In 2020, BIL launched its Create Together 2025 strategy. This ambitious transformation plan is changing the bank’s operations and commercial offering to build a still-more solid and agile bank with customer satisfaction as its priority. Faced with the major structural changes coming from the shake-up of the banking sector over more than ten years, BIL refuses to stand still.

These changes include European regulations governing financial institutions’ activity, driving increased transparency and security for clients and investors. In addition, the evolution of the international economic environment, marked by high market volatility, along with the negative interest rate strategy of the ECB over several years, has undermined the attractiveness of traditional savings and necessitated a review of investment products. Finally, the growing popularity of digital tools has led to new modes of consumption that combine flexibility, speed, autonomy and ease of use. Through its innovative infrastructure and services based on the efficiency and improvement of its offer, BIL is rising to the challenge of satisfying and even anticipating its clients’ needs and expectations, making each new constraint a lever to improve its services.

An ambitious sustainable development policy BIL is committed to both sustainable development and responsible finance. It is notable for its ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) policy, which it added to its Create Together 2025 strategic plan in 2021. This strategy, which will shape the BIL of tomorrow, delineates a bank that is confident in the future.

BIL’s commitment is underpinned by four pillars: sustainable governance and strategy; responsible and sustainable products and services; responsible employment; and a positive impact on the local economy and community.

It has already launched 40 initiatives as part of its Towards Sustainability programme.

The objective? To ensure that its commitments are integrated into day-to-day activities and then effectively monitored and managed.

The programme’s implementation calls on all the bank’s departments.

Significant progress In line with the European Regulation concerning sustainability-related disclosures in the financial services sector (SFDR), BIL published its sustainable and responsible investment framework in March 2021 and embarked on collecting and assessing its clients’ sustainability preferences in 2022. In line with EU recommendations, BIL has also defined a risk map to help direct ESG risk governance.

At the same time, it is working on developing its range of positive-impact products and

services and has committed to carrying out an ESG impact analysis of its current offerings. It has also defined and published its Green Bond Framework, which will act as a reference for future issues of these instruments. Investors in these green bonds can rest assured that their funds will be used for sustainable purposes and, more specifically, for the exclusive financing of energy-efficient real estate projects in Luxembourg.

In addition, four of the funds in the Bank’s BIL Invest range have been awarded the ESG LuxFLAG label, ensuring clients can reconcile profitability and sustainability and give meaning to their investments while growing their assets.

In another significant step forward, the Bank’s sustainable investment policy has also been applied to its own investment portfolio. In June 2022, green, social and sustainable bonds accounted for close to 15% of the Bank’s investments, a share that is set to increase in the future.

Finally, in 2021, BIL rolled out the first stage of its sustainable training programme and by the end of 2022, most employees will have been trained. Regular campaigns also help to raise awareness of sustainable development among the teams. By enabling each employee to develop their skills and understanding of these issues in relation to their role, BIL ensures that, in the long term, all financial decisions will take ESG criteria into account.

The Bank and its staff support several local initiatives and NGOs, mainly in the fields of health and education.

En quoi cette réorientation des capitaux consiste-t-elle ?

Il s’agit de rediriger les investissements de nos clients vers les secteurs d’activité ayant un impact positif sur l’environnement et la société. Il s’agit aussi d’accompagner, par notre activité de financement, entreprises et particuliers dans leur transition vers un mode de vie ou activité plus durable.

EN Why develop sustainable products?

Our ESG strategy has been defined in consultation with all our stakeholders. This exercise has shown that we can have the most significant positive impact through our products and services. As a financial intermediary, we can direct capital flows towards sustainable activities via investments and loans.

Sustainable growth must integrate ESG issues and serve the company’s and customers’ bottom line.

What does this reorientation of capital involve?

It is about redirecting our clients’ investments towards sectors of activity with a positive impact on the environment and society. It is also about using our financing activity to support companies and individuals as they transition towards a more sustainable lifestyle or business model.

Innover pour avancer Pour adapter son offre aux nouvelles habitudes des clients et à leurs attentes en matière de services bancaires, la BIL place efficacité et amélioration au coeur de sa stratégie.

Le constat est précis : les clients privilégient la flexibilité et l’instantanéité dans les opérations courantes, tandis qu’ils exigent des informations à valeur ajoutée et des solutions sur mesure concernant leurs grands projets de vie. Pour répondre à cette évolution, la BIL met en œuvre et poursuit le déploiement d’une stratégie de distribution omnicanale ambitieuse combinant réseau d’agences physiques et services digitaux. Concrètement, elle spécialise ses conseillers clientèle, renforce ses équipes accessibles à distance et enrichit les services numériques disponibles sur sa plateforme de banque en ligne BILnet.

Tout en continuant à investir dans son réseau d’agences, la BIL a adapté sa présence sur le terrain en s’assurant de trouver le juste équilibre entre efficacité et proximité.

Dans ce cadre, et pour répondre aux demandes de ses clients préférant la flexibilité, la Banque lançait, début 2022, une agence 100 % services à distance, BILhome, appuyée sur BILnet et une équipe d’experts dédiés, joignables par téléphone. Ce nouveau service est complémentaire avec un réseau d’agences physiques, par ailleurs toujours aussi essentiel.

La BIL a, dans le même temps, renforcé son Client Care Center, centre d’appels après-vente

dont l’équipe, multilingue et experte, est en mesure de répondre aux questions urgentes ou techniques.

Des produits et services innovants L’innovation ne s’arrête pas aux points de contact avec la Banque. Pour ses clients, la BIL innove également en étoffant sa gamme de produits et services.

Ainsi, BIL Corporate Finance vient renforcer les services dédiés aux entreprises.

En s’appuyant sur l’expertise conjointe de ses équipes luxembourgeoise, suisse et chinoise, le service propose une offre unique alliant solutions de financement et conseil à ses clients entrepreneurs et entreprises familiales dans le cadre d’opérations stratégiques et de structuration du capital.

Concernant les produits d’investissement, la BIL a élargi son offre à travers sa gamme de fonds BIL Invest, accessibles à partir de faibles montants et adaptés à tous les profils d’investisseurs. Parallèlement, la Banque a développé des produits alternatifs, comme le private equity ou real estate, réservés à des investisseurs avertis. BIL PEI (BIL Private Equity I), développé avec Legend Capital, enregistre, malgré un environnement économique difficile ces deux dernières années, des performances solides depuis son lancement en 2019.

Enfin, la BIL a poursuivi l’élargissement de son offre de services numériques. Dernier né de ces nouveaux services, Myvisit était lancé en octobre 2021, dans le but d’aider les primo-accédants à faire un choix en toute connaissance de cause lors de la sélection d’un bien immobilier.

Innovating to move forward To adapt its range of services to new consumer behaviors and meet their expectations, BIL is responding by putting improvement and innovation at the heart of its strategy.

The evidence is clear: customers prefer flexibility and immediacy in day-to-day operations but demand value-added information and tailor-made solutions when considering the major projects in their life. To respond to this change, BIL is deploying an ambitious omnichannel distribution strategy combining its physical branch network and digital services.

In concrete terms, it is providing specialised client advisers, strengthening its remote access teams and enhancing the digital facilities available on its BILnet online banking platform.

While BIL continues to invest in its branch network, it has worked to adapt its presence by ensuring that it strikes the right balance between efficiency and proximity. In this context, and to respond to its clients’ demands for more flexibility, the Bank launched BIL home in 2022, a 100% remote service branch, supported

by BILnet, and a team of dedicated experts that clients can contact by phone.

BIL home perfectly complements the still-essential physical branch network.

At the same time, BIL has strengthened its Client Care Center operation,

which provides an after-sales support service staffed by a multilingual, expert team that can respond to urgent or technical questions.

Innovative products and services Innovation does not stop with increasing the number of contact points. BIL is also expanding the range of products and s ervices available to its clients.

As part of this, BIL Corporate Finance has strengthened its business options.

Drawing on the joint expertise of its Luxembourg, Swiss and Chinese teams, the department offers a unique combination of financing solutions and advisory services to its entrepreneurial and family business clients in the context of strategic transactions and capital structuring.

BIL has also expanded the range of investment products available within the BIL Invest portfolio, starting with funds that require just a small outlay and adapted to all investor profiles. At the same time, the Bank has developed alternative products, such as private equity or real estate funds, reserved for sophisticated investors. BIL PEI (BIL Private Equity I), developed with Legend Capital, has recorded solid performances since its launch in 2019, despite a challenging economic environment over the last two years.

Finally, BIL continued to expand its digital services. The latest of these new services, Myvisit, was launched in October 2021 to help first-time buyers to make an informed choice when selecting a property.

Indépendance et économie En 1839, l’indépendance du Luxembourg est actée, dans un contexte économique désastreux.

Le monde agricole fait l’objet de mesures protectionnistes. La société se modernise avec de profondes réformes sociales. En 1929, la BIL compte parmi les institutions fondatrices de la Bourse de Luxembourg.

La reconstruction Après les ravages de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, place à la reconstruction. En 1951, affirmant sa volonté d’ouverture à l’international, le Luxembourg compte parmi les six membres fondateurs de la Communauté européenne du charbon et de l’acier (CECA), ancêtre de la CEE et de l’UE. Au fil des années, la BIL renforce son ancrage au Luxembourg et acquiert des participations stratégiques dans des entreprises nationales des secteurs du transport ou des télécommunications.

L’essor de la place financière Dans les années 1975 à 1985, la désindustrialisation est à l’œuvre, et la Place financière se positionne en nouveau fournisseur de richesses.

Sa stabilité, la souplesse de son cadre législatif et réglementaire, son ouverture sur le monde font du Luxembourg la destination de choix des emprunts internationaux. Les banques du monde entier s’y installent. Dans le même temps, la BIL étend son réseau international.

En 1985, elle débute ainsi ses activités de banque privée en Suisse. En 1989, elle investit son nouveau siège social route d’Esch à Luxembourg. L’immeuble, qui abritera dès lors l’ambitieux projet d’une banque d’avenir, est nommé « L’Indépendance » en hommage au 150e anniversaire de l’indépendance du Grand-Duché.

Alors intégrée au groupe franco-belge Dexia dans les années 1990, la Banque retrouve son indépendance en 2012, après la crise financière.

As the country’s oldest universal bank, BIL has been present at every pivotal moment of Luxembourg’s development since its creation in 1856. Independence and economy In 1839, Luxembourg’s independence was established in a disastrous economic context.

In 1843-44, a proactive infrastructure policy and entry into the Zollverein, a custom union of German states, made steel the country’s leading industry.

On 8 March 1856, BIL, the first privatelyowned bank in the Grand Duchy, was founded to finance the railways and steel industry.

The same year, it issued its first banknotes, a privilege it retained until the introduction of the euro.

Industrialisation, a new beginning From 1870, in a society divided into two blocks – the landed gentry and bourgeoise urban merchants – with an agricultural and industrial

conservatism which, in theory, could have penalised any hope of development, new iron and steel companies were formed, developed and prospered. In 1913, its productive strength made Luxembourg an important industrial power but economically dependent on its German neighbour.

Inter-war period World War I led to a breakdown in society and intense social unrest. The adoption of universal suffrage put an end to the privileges of the bourgeoisie. The Zollverein was denounced in favour of a Belgian-Luxembourg economic union. German capital was replaced by French and Belgian. Protectionist measures were introduced in the agricultural sector. Society was modernised, and significant social reforms were enacted. In 1929, BIL became one of the founding institutions of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.

Time for reconstruction In 1951, Luxembourg’s desire to open up internationally led to it becoming one of the six founding members of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), the forerunner of the EEC and EU. Over the years, BIL strengthened its position in Luxembourg and acquired strategic holdings in the transport and telecommunications sectors of national companies.

The growth of the financial centre 1975-85 saw increasing deindustrialisation, with the financial centre positioning itself as a new supplier of wealth. Its stability, the flexibility of its legislative and regulatory framework,

and its openness to the world made Luxembourg the destination of choice for international loans. Banks from all over the world came to set up shop. At the same time, BIL expanded its international network, launching private banking operations in Switzerland in 1985. In 1989, it moved into its new headquarters on Route d’Esch in the city of Luxembourg. Since then, the building, named “L’Indépendance” in homage to the 150th anniversary of the Grand Duchy’s independence, has housed the Bank’s ambitions for the future.

BIL became part of the Franco-Belgian Dexia Group in the 1990s before regaining its independence in 2012, following the financial crisis.

Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (BIL) was founded by the Royal Decrees of 8 March and 14 April 1856 with German bankers. Official operations began on 31 July at Rue NotreDame.
