para construir uma torre retangular a ser suspensa acima do piso térreo do prédio da BienaL A torre de nove andares terá nove metros de altura, três metros na base e 75 cm de largura em seu ápice. Por ocasião da cerimônia de inauguração, pólvora e um estopim serão inflamados à vista do público. No momento da explosão nasce um desenho com as marcas da pólvora queimada, incrustadas no papeL Ao longo da Bienal um vídeo, que documenta o processo da explosão, será mostrado num monitor, juntamente com a torre de papel explodida. Quando as notícias diárias estão repletas de violentas imagens de explosões e bombardeios, talvez possamos esperar ver imagens de uma espécie diferente de explosão na primeira página de um jornal, no dia seguinte à abertura da Bienal. A explosão dessa torre exprime a contradição e a dificuldade de nosso clima sociopolítico. É também um testamento do poder e da espiritualidade da arte. I Cai Guo Qiang

The nine-tiered tower will be nine meters tall, three meters at its base and 75 cm across at its topo For the opening ceremony, gunpowder and fuse will be fixed direct1y onto the surface of the paper, and the tower will be ignited in front of the publico At the moment of the explosion the drawing is made with the charred gunpowder marks embedded in the paper. For the duration of the Bienal, a video documentation of the explosion process will be shown on a monitor along with the exploded paper tower. When daily news headlines are full of violent images of explosions and bombings, perhaps we can expect to see images of a different sort of explosion on the front page of the newspaper the day after the Bienal's opening. The explosion of this tower expresses the contradiction and difficulty of our sociopolitical climate. It is also a testament of the power and spirituality of art. I Cai Guo Qiang
