Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty started off as Vestra Realty in 1998, a one-office, twenty five agent operation run by Kevin Wiles. The name Vestra was an acronym for Value Enhancement Strategies and was laser-focused on delivering value to its agents and clients. Thanks to the robust housing market and the growth-oriented culture that Kevin and his team cultivated, the company attracted the attention of PenFed Credit Union, which was looking to expand its real estate, mortgage and title offerings to its members.
In 2006, Vestra Realty became PenFed Realty, and the company quickly grew from 25 agents in one office to six offices and 250 agents by 2010. In 2011, PenFed Realty entered the Prudential franchise network when they acquired Prudential Carruthers Realtors, and the resulting company became Prudential PenFed Realty. The merged organization immediately became one of the leading real estate firms in the greater D.C., Maryland and Virginia markets, which continues to this day.

The PenFed Foundation for Military Heroes is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission to empower military service members, veterans and their communities with the skills and resources to realize financial stability and opportunity. Since 2001, the PenFed Foundation has provided more than $38.5 million in financial support to more than 140,000 military families. More than 95% of each donation goes directly to support their programs.
Locally, PenFed Realty supports Gallo Gives Foundation, which was established in 2016 by Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty. Each year, the company selects a local nonprofit organization as the recipient of its fundraising efforts, plus grants scholarships to two local high school students. To date, the foundation has contributed nearly $250,000 to local organizations.
The Sunshine Kids Foundation is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to serving children with cancer and is Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices' national charitable benefactor. Established in 1982 in Houston, the organization provides a variety of programs, free of charge, for children receiving cancer treatments in hospitals across the United States, Canada and Mexico. In 2023, PenFed Realty's agents and employees donated more than $100,000 to the Sunshine Kids.
