HEALTH & NEWS FITNESS MEMBER MONTH -2023 JANUARY FEBRUARY 2024 In this Edition| |GM, ClubCourse Update, and Classes, Swimming, Upcoming In this Edition Gym Update |and Recipe of theEvent Month

A MESSAGE FROM... Serina Hi everyone, I hope you all had a very good Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank you to everyone for your custom in 2023. Last year health & fitness saw some positive changes, as we invested in our gym equipment, showers, and new spin bikes. We are not stopping, the spin dryers have been ordered, and we apologise for the delay as we are having difficulties with the supply company. We are still very much committed to installing them and as soon as they are in stock. The new kettlebells have now arrived, and we are still waiting for the delivery of our Air Bike which should be coming in the coming weeks. The changing room air-conditioning has now been separated and is independently run. We have added some new classes onto our timetable including a 7am body pump on a Monday and a floor based LBT class on a Wednesday - along with those we also have the gym Floor HITT & core classes. See our timetable or the app for more information on dates and times. As always, January is our busiest month for gym users, and we will see an uptick in how busy the gym, classes, and spa areas are. Please can I remind you to:

• • •

Cancel classes that you are not going to attend to enable those on the waiting a chance. Lisa will be very vigilant on the noshow list and will act on repeat offenders who do not cancel. Use your time on the gym floor to train, rather than resting on machines and not using them. If you’re having a break between sets, can someone else use them? Refrain from jogging outside the double lane. This may mean, at times, swapping lanes when it gets busy. Think about how much space you’re using in the sauna and steam room - can I make space for someone else? Let’s get through our busiest time by being mindful of others who want to use the facilities.

Men’s showers I understand your frustration with the men’s shower cubicles, frustratingly they were damaged by the company that installed them before Christmas, Due to the ongoing issues with the company we are now completing the work ourselves, and we have contacted an independent company to complete the repairs. The new glass is being fabricated and will be installed at the beginning of February. I do not currently have a confirmed date of completion, but as soon as we have more information we will let you know.

Congratulations to Tom for completing his Level 3 Personal Training Course. Tom is now available to take on new PT Clients, so if you are looking for that extra support and guidance and want Personal Training please come and see Tom on the gym floor.

Welcome to our newest member of the team: Caitlin

I would be more than happy to help answer any questions or concerns either for yourself or a family member. I am at the club normally on Monday between 8:30 and 12:30, when you will likely find me on the gym floor. Alternatively, I have also scheduled some alternative dates in February:

Hi, I’m Caitlin! I’m super excited to be part of the team here at Birchwood.

Tuesday 6th February - 18.00-20.00

I am building a team of individuals who want to become the best version of themselves. My job is to help you achieve your desired goal whether that be muscle gain, fat loss, improving knowledge around nutrition or reducing any stress/anxiety from day-to-day life. My approach places a key focus on mental health – this is so important and should be looked after just as much as your physical health. I am here to guide you every step of the way and give you all the tools to build unstoppable confidence to last a lifetime! Our Personal Training prices are very competitive and are as low as £25.00 each when taken with a buddy. For more prices on block and individual sessions please see the gym floor notice board or talk to the gym team.

Message from Elaine Cardiac Exercise Specialist I am a Cardiac Exercise Specialist with 20+ years in this field, and I have been working at Birchwood Park for 16 years.

Friday 16th February - 08.30-12.30 Monday 11th March - 08.30-10.30 Tuesday 12th March - 18.00-20.00 If you would like to talk to me, please book an appointment at reception or speak to a member of the team, or alternatively come and see me on the gym floor.

NEW Cancer Warning For Men This month, we are working with the NHS to deliver an NHS Early Diagnosis drive for men. We will be placing mats in the men’s toilets across the club in February, which are designed to find traces of blood in men’s urine. Passing blood, even just once, is a common symptom for bladder, kidney and prostate cancers - all of which are among the most common cancers in the UK and primarily affect men. The utmost important message is to contact your GP if you have any concerns.

I support our members who are recovering from cardiac surgery and treatments including angina and heart failure, and I am also available to help those concerned about their heart health.
