It has been a long three years since we were last together in this room, and we are incredibly grateful to have you attending tonight’s Enchanted Masquerade. What a truly enchanted night it is!

Tonight, we come together for BGCCC’s most important event of the year; a night to recognize and thank our donor community and to raise the dollars needed so that we can continue to provide a world-class, affordable, and accessible club experience for the youth of Collin County.

Life’s challenges can be overwhelming for today’s children, and for the first time in our history, the American dream is at risk for our youth. On an average day, 675 of our local youth choose the hope and opportunity that our Boys & Girls Clubs’ Blue doors represent. More than 8,000 children will be walking through our doors this year. Your support tonight will help ensure our doors remain open, and that we will continue to offer nationally recognized programs in the areas of The Arts, Education, Health & Wellness and Leadership & Service.

As you entered our Gala this evening, you were greeted with smiles of gratitude from many of our club members. Think of these smiles, and the kids we serve, as you enjoy the evening. Letter from the Chair of the Board of Directors

Dear Friends of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County,

I want to welcome you tonight on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County! We are excited to host our 2022 Chrysalis Ball, an Enchanted Masquerade, in person again for the first time since 2019. Tonight will be a spectacular evening, as we enjoy this amazing ambiance and fantastic entertainment in the company of our friends!

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County have been serving the youth in our communities for 54 years. However, the past 2 years have been especially challenging for all of us, as organization and as individuals. When schools shut down in 2020 due to COVID, we opened our doors to pro vide a safe place for kids to learn, with internet access, warm meals, and support to navigate online education. Coming out of the pandemic, the need for the services the Boys & Girls Clubs provide has only increased in our communities. Today, about 50% of kids enrolled in our Collin County ISDs qualify for free or reduced lunch! Sadly, the percentage of youth either homeless or in foster care has tripled due to the pandemic. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County are here to serve all families & youth, regardless of their background or situation. To respond to the growing need for our services and programs, we are working hard as a team to expand our capacity to serve more youth. We have opened 2 new club locations at Harper Elementary in Princeton and Elliott Elementary in Frisco, and we will soon open our newest location, The Cot ton Groves Club, in partnership with Habitat of Humanity in McKinney. None of this is possible without the tireless work every day by our fabulous staff in the branches and in administrative office. THANK YOU to all BGCCC team members for everything you do every day for our youth!

With growth comes opportunity, such as professional development for our staff, but also chal lenges, such as raising funds to support the expanded reach of our mission. Tonight, we are counting on you to follow your heart and give generously in your support of the young people of Collin County. Land in Kihihi at 8.45 (flight time just 1.5hours) and the lodge vehicle will be waiting on the airstrip to take you to your accommodation.

Day 3 - The Big Day! Gorilla Trekking, Buhoma, Bwindi

With a packed breakfast head to Buhoma gate for Gorilla trekking. It’s only a short walk to some of the best primate tracking on the planet – set against the backdrop of endless green hills and soaring mountain sides. The park staff discusses your fitness level and advises you of the trekking times and conditions to the various groups based upon their location in the park the previous evening. When you find the Gorillas you will get a precious hour to enjoy them - and you will!

Day 4/5 - Protea Hotel Entebbe, Uganda

The lodge vehicle will transfer you back to the airstrip for an 8.25am departure, depending on stops you’ll be back in Entebbe around 11.15. A driver will be waiting for you to take you back to the hotel to refresh before enjoying lunch. In the afternoon get out and about in Entebbe; . Our local driver will be available to you for the afternoon to show you around Entebbe’s local sites, Craft Markets & Lake side bars and restaurants. If you would like to visit Botanical Gardens, Uganda Wildlife Centre or Chimp Island these excursions can be arranged by our local concierge for a supplement.

In May of 2018 Kent opened his newest restaurant imoto in Victory Park.

Porto is the second largest city in Portugal, situated in the northern aspect of the country on the picturesque Douro River, only a few miles from the Atlantic coast and beaches. It is an old city, even by European standards; Porto’s historic centre is a UNESCO-recognized World Heritage Site.

You will stay in a luxury two bedroom, two bath, apartment on the seventh floor of an exclusive gated community with relaxing and breathtaking views overlooking the beautiful Douro River, on the same bend of the Douro chosen for construction of the Palacio do Freixo in the middle of the 18th century, now a 5-star hotel, national monument, and unique example of Baroque architecture. The living area and both bedrooms have floor to ceiling glass windows overlooking the Douro with glass doors leading to a deck that spans the entire length of the apartment.

The food in Porto is fresh, and delicious. Seafood is of course, fresh and readily available in Porto – a 20-minute ride to Matosinhos will deliver you to the where the majority of the local fish comes to port. Delicious wines are available from the various wine regions of Portugal, including the Douro Valley wine region. Port wine is exclusively from the Douro Valley and should not be missed during a stay in Porto. It is often offered as an after-dinner drink, and famous port wine cellars are open to visit across the Dom Luis I in Vila Nova de Gaia. If you wish to expand your wine tasting experience, take a day trip into the beautiful Douro River Valley and surrounding hills and mountains to visit wineries and associated restaurants, which will not disappoint.

For European football fans, catch a game at the 50,000 seat Estadio do Dragao, the home of FC Porto, which is only 2 km from the apartment. River cruises are available from the marina across the street from the apartment. If you are feeling more adventurous or want to see stunning scenery while watching others risk their lives, consider the 2 ½ hour trip to Nazare to experience a beautiful town and see the site of the largest waves in the world, where Guinness Book records were set for surfing 80-foot waves and also the setting for the current popular 100 Foot Wave HBO documentary.

Since 1947, Youth of the Year has been Boys & Girls Clubs premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club members. Each year, one exceptional young person from a Club rises to the role of Youth of the Year, becoming an exemplary ambassador who not only speaks as a voice of Club youth but also stands up to represent young people. The program is designed to select a young person who has excelled academically, made outstanding contributions to his or her family, school, community, and Club, and in many cases overcame substantial obstacles. Youth of the Year participants embody the values of leadership, service, academic excellence, and healthy lifestyles; they exemplify the critical impact of Boys & Girls Clubs on the lives of young people. Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor bestowed upon Club members.

OUR PROGRAMS

Since 1969, Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County has served North Texas with a mission to “enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.”

Opening our doors to over 4,000 area youth when they are out of school, our innovative programs are designed to empower youth to excel in school, become good citizens and lead healthy, productive lives. Each Club operates 15-20 programs utilizing proven and nationally recognized programs in (5) Core Program Areas that closely align with the developmental needs of all young people:

By 2030, we will provide a world-class, affordable and acces sible Club Experience to 14,000 of the Collin County youth (~7%), with all members on track to graduate high school with a plan for the future, practical life skills, demonstrating good character and citizenship and a healthy lifestyle.
