Dear Friends & Supporters of BGCCC,

On behalf of Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County, it is my absolute privilege to welcome you to our 19th annual gala, A Night at the Cabaret – Featuring Jazz and Comedy. This evening promises to be an evening dedicated to empowering and transforming the lives of the young people in our community, and we are thrilled to have your presence and support as we come together to raise the necessary funds and awareness so that we can continue to carry out our mission.

Tonight's gala holds a special significance for me as it marks my first since being appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County. I am deeply honored to lead this incredible organization and to have the opportunity to work alongside such passionate individuals who share a common goal of empowering our future generation.

For over 50 years, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County has been a pillar of hope and opportunity for children and teens in our community. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Through our comprehensive programs and dedicated staff, we provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can grow, learn, and thrive.

Since reopening our clubs after the pandemic, we have expanded programs to reach even more children in need. Our after-school programs provide a safe haven for children to engage in educational activities, receive mentorship, and develop essential life skills. We have also enhanced our STEM initiatives, empowering our youth to explore the exciting worlds of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Additionally, we have expanded our college and career readiness programs, ensuring that our young members are prepared to pursue their dreams and succeed in the ever-evolving professional landscape.

None of this would be possible without the generosity and support of individuals like you. Your presence tonight not only demonstrates your commitment to our cause but also serves as a beacon of hope for all the children who will benefit from your kindness. Your contributions enable us to continue providing transformative experiences and opportunities that empower our youth to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our dedicated Board of Directors, our hardworking staff, and our tireless volunteers who invest their time and talents into the Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County. Dear Friends of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County,

Welcome to the 2023 Chrysalis Ball – a Night at the Cabaret. On behalf of our Board of Directors, our entire staff, and our member families, thank you for joining us this evening! Tonight, will be a spectacular evening, as we enjoy this amazing ambiance and fantastic entertainment in the company of our friends!

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County have been serving the youth in our communities for 55 years! 2023 is shaping up to be another successful year for our organization, as we continue to deliver our mission to our members, serving more than 500 youth every single day across our 7 branch locations. Our amazing staff members go above and beyond every single day to deliver impactful programming and care to our youth members. Whether it is yoga classes, coding, robotics, financial literacy, arts, or leadership development in our Torch Club and Keystone Club, our members get to learn & grow in a fun and nurturing environment. To the great excitement of our youth, we added to our “cool factor” in 2023 with new programs like eSports - in partnership with FC Dallas Foundation & Truist Bank, and youth golf experiences - in partnership with the PGA of America! We will continue to develop new partnerships to bring more innovative programs to our youth, for example, exploring multi-media and workforce readiness programs. Of course, much of our programming would not be possible without the support of our dedicated corporate & community partners, and individual donors. Thank you for your continued support!

2023 is also a year of leadership change for BGCCC. In August, our Board was very excited to welcome Shawn Wills as our new CEO to lead BGCCC into the future. Shawn comes to BGCCC with 20+ years of non-profit experience and has proven herself as inspiring people leader and effective fundraiser. Her vision and creativity will help BGCCC expand our reach across Collin County to serve more of the youth in our local communities. The future is bright for BGCCC and for the youth of Collin County!

With growth comes opportunity, such as professional development for our staff, but also challenges, such as raising funds to support the expanded reach of our mission. Tonight, we are counting on you to follow your heart and give generously to support the young people of Collin County. The money we are able to raise tonight will directly support our club branches and programs in our mission to enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential to as productive, caring and responsible citizens.

What is youth of the year

Since 1947, Youth of the Year has been Boys & Girls Clubs premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club members. Each year, one exceptional young person from a Club rises to the role of Youth of the Year, becoming an exemplary ambassador who not only speaks as a voice of Club youth but also stands up to represent young people. The program is designed to select a young person who has excelled academically, made outstanding contributions to his or her family, school, community, and Club, and in many cases overcame substantial obstacles. Youth of the Year participants embody the values of leadership, service, academic excellence, and healthy lifestyles; they exemplify the critical impact of Boys & Girls Clubs on the lives of young people. Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor bestowed upon Club members.

Since 1969, Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County has served North Texas with a mission to “enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.”

Opening our doors to over 4,000 area youth when they are out of school, our innovative programs are designed to empower youth to excel in school, become good citizens and lead healthy, productive lives. Each Club operates 1520 programs utilizing proven and nationally recognized programs in (5) Core Program Areas that closely align with the developmental needs of all young people:

Empowering youth through eSports: BOYS

& GIRLS CLUBS OF COLLIN COUNTY'S GAME-CHANGING PROGRAM

In the past year, Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County has taken a progressive step by launching new eSports programs in two of our Clubs that are not only fun and exciting, but also educational and character-building. Recognizing the potential of eSports as a tool for skill development and positive youth engagement, we have partnered with FC Dallas and Truist to harness this phenomenon by building new eSports labs at our Frisco and Plano locations to create a unique program that bridges the gap between recreation and education. At its core, the eSports program offers young individuals a safe and structured environment where they can explore their passion for gaming while also learning essential life skills. Here's how Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County are achieving this:

Digital Literacy and Technology Skills: Through the eSports program, participants learn to navigate gaming platforms, collaborate online, and understand the technical aspects of gaming setups. These skills not only contribute to their gaming prowess but also prepare them for an increasingly digital future.

Teamwork and Communication: As participants engage in competitive gameplay, they develop strong teamwork skills, learn to strategize, and experience the value of clear communication—a vital asset in both personal and professional realms.

Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: eSports program participants enhance their ability to analyze situations, adapt to changing circumstances, and devise effective solutions—a set of skills applicable to various aspects of life.

Sportsmanship and Fair Play: Participants learn to win with humility and lose with grace, fostering a sense of respect for opponents and teammates alike.

Career Exploration: There are 150+ colleges and universities that are members of the National Association of Collegiate Esports and offer varsity eSports. From game development and design to event management and marketing, the program introduces participants to potential career paths they might not have considered otherwise.

Inclusivity and Diversity: The program encourages diversity, exposing participants to a global community and fostering cross-cultural understanding.

By harnessing the inherent appeal of video gaming, the organization is creating a positive and impactful space for youth to thrive.

By 2030, we will provide a world-class, affordable, and accessible Club Experience to 14,000 of Collin County’s youth (~7%), with all members on track to graduate high school with a plan for the future, practical life skills, demonstrating good character and citizenship and a healthy lifestyle.
