THIS COMING WEEK EASTER LILIES if you would like to give a lily in memory of a someone, please put £4 in the blue safe marked flowers, and write their name(s) on the list on the sound desk. We will soon be ordering the lilies so please sign up in the next week.

ANNUAL VESTRY MEETING AND APCM (Annual Parochial Church Meeting) The Annual Vestry Meeting and the APCM for this year will be held in the Cathedral today following the morning service. The Vestry meeting will be at 11.45am and the APCM will follow immediately after. Nomination Forms for the elections to Churchwarden, Community Committee member, Deanery Synod member, Cathedral Council member and Parish Disability Representative are available in the Cathedral. Also, the Deputy Wardens and Sidesmen will be formally elected at the meeting. It is important that these positions are filled so please prayerfully consider if you would serve in one of these roles and play a part in the life and work of the Cathedral.

At CHORAL EVENSONG ON SUNDAYS IN LENT we are welcoming curates from around the Diocese to preach at 4pm. Today we welcome the Revd Natasha Thomas from Keighley. Do come if you can.

MONDAY FELLOWSHIP Monday 8th April at 2pm. The group meets in the Parish Room at 2pm on the second Monday of the month and everyone is most welcome to come and join us. The speaker on Monday is William Thackray, a retired priest. William is giving a talk and photographic presentation on “The 14 Northern Cathedrals”.

LAMPS THEATRE PASSION PLAY is on Monday 8 April at 7pm. Told from the perspectives of Peter, Mary Magdalene and a Roman centurion named Marcus, this Passion play leads us up to and through the events of Holy Week, the cross and beyond.

Tickets at £8 (£5 for under 25s) are available at www.bradfordcathedral.eventbrite.com At the COFFEE CONCERT this Tuesday 9 April, we welcome Elizabeth Charlesworth. Coffee and cakes will be served from 10.30am and the concert will start at 11am. There is no charge but there is a retiring collection, which will go towards the organ fund.

WEDNESDAY @1 ORGAN RECITAL This week we welcome Ed Aldhouse from Ely Cathedral, Ed has also held posts at Chichester, Rochester and Ripon. Come along and share in the buffet lunch (£4) and then enjoy the recital which starts at 1pm. There is a retiring collection in aid of the organ fund.

The series of CHAMBER CONCERTS continues on Friday at 7.30pm with Emma Johnson and the Gildas Quartet. Tickets are available on 01274 432000 and www.bradford-theatres.co.uk PALM SUNDAY 14 April – HOLY WEEK BEGINS (See Handout) As in previous years the Choir and Clergy and anyone who wishes to join them, will be leaving from the main Cathedral gate on Stott Hill at 10am and processing down into the City and back into the Cathedral precinct via the State Gate.

At 6pm we are hosting a Musalaha Women’s Programme event entitled ‘Jesus weeps for peace in Palestine and Israel’, where two women will talk honestly about their differences whilst showing what is achievable through faith in Christ. Refreshments will be served from 5.30pm and as well as readings and prayers there will also be a Q&A time. The event is free, but you can reserve a place on bradfordcathedral.eventbrite.com or let the Cathedral Office know or just turn up.

There will be some ROAD CLOSURES next Sunday 14 April in Bradford and around the Cathedral in Little Germany due to the Vaisaki Sikh celebrations and procession.

THANK YOU AND REQUESTS FAIRTRADE Thank you to everyone who has supported and continues to support our Fairtrade Stall. Last year we made £307.17, which has been sent to Traidcraft Exchange to help with its ongoing work. We are also desperate for more help with our Stall in order to keep it running and if you might consider helping or would like to know more, do speak to one of the team members on the Stall or call the Cathedral Office.

The Stall has also been stocked up with fresh supplies including the lovely locally sourced honey from Yorkshire bees. We have five different flavours, which are perfect for spreading on bread or toast and also for baking. Do take a look.

The CHILDREN’S SOCIETY BOXES are due for emptying. If you have one, could you please either bring it in to the Cathedral Office or hand it to Jane Thompson so that it can be counted and the money collected can then be sent to the Children’s Society. If you would like to have a box yourself, to collect for this very worthy cause, let Jane or the Cathedral Office know.

DATES TO BOOK FOR YOUR DIARY BELL RINGING TASTER SESSION: Have you ever wanted to have a go at bell ringing? If so, why not come and ring our recently refurbished Bells and learn or improve your ringing technique with our bell captain Ron Crabtree. Please note that the session planned for today will take place on Sunday 5 May at 11.30am SUNDAY 28 APRIL at 1.15pm (after the Scouts’ Service) the Friends of the Stained Glass Museum in Ely are visiting Bradford Cathedral and having a talk given by some of their stained glass experts. They are happy for members of the Cathedral congregation and staff to join them for the talk.

Monday 20 May: Dr Rowan Williams At 3pm - Dr Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury and now Master of Magdalene College Cambridge, will present his public square lecture addressing the contemporary and crucial question of ‘What does national identity mean these days?’ with an opportunity for the audience to delve further into this vital subject ……….. ……… and at 7pm - we will host the de Lacy Arts & Theology Lecture entitled ‘Poetry in the Making’, when Dr Williams, will look at what goes on in the writing of poetry, in various contexts across the centuries – the place of rhyme and metre, the way images can be used, and the relation between poetry and other kinds of seeing or thinking, including religious faith. Refreshments are from 6:30pm and the Lecture will starts at 7pm. Both events are free, but you can express your interest on bradfordcathedral.eventbrite.com Saturday 14th September at 7.30pm: The Sixteen: An Immortal Legacy.

We are thrilled and privileged to be welcoming the world acclaimed music group, The Sixteen, who are delighted to perform at Bradford Cathedral with a distinctly British programme spanning over 500 years of choral music. This is a ticket only event and tickets are now available on https://bradford-cathedral.ticketlight.co.uk/ The Sixteen have a huge following and are extremely popular and we are expecting ticket sales to go fast, so book early to avoid disappointment.

A Fashion Show, by Isaro Collections in aid of the Bradford Court Chaplaincy Service, will take place on Saturday 27 April at 5.30pm in the Atrium in the University of Bradford Richmond Building. Don’t miss out – book your tickets at bradfordcathedral.eventbrite.com VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES On Saturday 15th June, Volunteers are wanted for the Cathedral Festival!

We are opening our doors to showcase everything the Cathedral does for the local community. To make sure the event goes smoothly we need help throughout the day in the following slots to welcome people into the Cathedral and give general support: 10:30am - 1:30pm; 1:30pm - 4:30pm; 4:30pm to 7:30pm. We are also looking for one person in each slot to help with announcements. If you can help please contact Charlie on heritageoutreach@bradfordcathedral.org.

We are looking for people to help move chairs and furniture as part of our 15 June event to help support the street party and evening prayer. The slots are 6.007.30pm, 8.15-9.15pm and 10.00-11.00pm. If you are able to help, please email events@bradfordcathedral.org Tourism Project: Stitchers needed! As part of a National Churches Trust project to attract more visitors to the Cathedral and other northern churches, we are intending to have a “Living Windows” event later in the year and other such events in the future.

Saints from the windows and other names associated with the Cathedral, such as William Morris, will be played by actors and interact with visitors, telling their stories.

We need people to help us recreate some of the costumes worn by saints such as Hilda, Elizabeth of Hungary and Ethelburga in our beautiful windows. If you can help us we would be most grateful. Faith Stories Wanted: The Diocese of Leeds website runs pieces on Facebook and Instagram called #myleedscofe and are looking for people to contribute. The basic idea is to share people’s stories of faith in 150 words, accompanied with a selfie style image, and they have enjoyed big success with them so far.
