READERS’ POLL RESULTS––––––––––––––––––––––––

Eighth annual poll honors NWA’s Best of the Best best in this competitive, vibrant area of Northwest Arkansas and this is why it is one of our favorite publications,” said Dani Beeman, Business Development Manager for the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. This section is packed with photos and articles about the winning businesses, along with a comprehensive list of the winner and the two finalists. “I think that Northwest Arkansas consumers want to recognize those businesses that go above and beyond in service and quality,” Beeman said. “In turn, I see and hear from local business owners who genuinely feel honored and want to show their appreciation for the vote of confidence from their customers.” This achievement deserves celebrating. We recognized our top three finalists at our Best of the Best Gala on Thursday, October 27 at the Metroplex in Springdale. Photos from the event, and a searchable directory of winners, are available online at nwadg.com/best.

As the diversity of businesses and consumer selections in Northwest Arkansas expands, so does the number of people who want to recognize their favorites among them. This special publication reflects the results of several months of voting that were collected in the 2016 Best of the Best in Northwest Arkansas. In Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s largest poll to date, it is clear that the public is passionate about supporting businesses that excel in their services, products and quality and they want those businesses to receive recognition for a job well done. Voting started with nominations in July, where voters selected their favorite businesses from every possible business in Northwest Arkansas. In August our readers voted on the nominated businesses to reach the winner and two finalists in each category. “To reach the top three in Northwest Arkansas is a designation that speaks volumes about the hard work and dedication put into a business every day. After tens of thousands of votes, these businesses stand among the

C

oldwell Banker Harris, McHaney and Faucette is celebrating 60 years of business in Northwest Arkansas this year. That means before Sam Walton opened his first store that would become an empire, before J.B. Hunt incorporated in Arkansas and before Tyson moved their corporate offices to Springdale – this family owned company was here, playing a powerful part in helping those moving to this area feel at home. With that sort of longstanding presence in NWA, it should come as no surprise that Coldwell Banker Harris, McHaney and Faucette (CBHMF) is number one in residential sales in the region. According to the Northwest Arkansas Board of Realtors, CBHMF closed $520 million in residential sales volume in 2015, the most of any brokerage. While the average sold price for a home in NWA is around $166,000 – the average sold price of a home listed by CBHMF is nearly $246,000.

NWA Democrat-Gazette Best of the Best

So what is the key to six decades of continued success? For co-CEO Pat Harris, the answer is obvious. “Our sales team. Our 220 realtors are the front line of our achievements,” Harris says. “And the sole responsibility of our leadership, managing brokers and support staff is to champion the success of each individual agent.” “We believe CBHMF delivers the most comprehensive training and assistance for our sales team in the NWA market,” Neil Hubbard says. Hubbard stepped into the role of General Manager for the brokerage just a few weeks ago and is excited about where the company is headed. “Our combination of agent training, sales support and award-winning tools and technology allows our Realtors to quickly reach their production goals.” Harris and Hubbard note the home buying process has moved away from the curb, pointing out most house searching begins online now. In fact, 90 percent of home searching happens on websites, according to the National Board of Realtors. To accommodate this, CBHMF has

4

rolled out a website and mobile app for every one of their agents so they can provide the most updated regional real estate listing results for their clients. These personal websites and apps are only the most recent addition to the CBHMF toolbox of longstanding programs designed to drive agent production. The brokerage employs an in-house graphic designer to help create marketing materials, weekly listing advertisements in the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and a support staff that includes a relocation department, closing, listing and contract coordinators, office manager and I.T. support. CBHMF agents have the highest average individual sales production of any other top local brokerage, which co-CEO George Faucette says is no coincidence. He says CBHMF has been honing in on what it takes to support Realtor success since 1956. “We offer unparalleled support for our Realtors, which ultimately supports and meets the needs of our clients” Faucette explains. “Our agents are equipped to give every buyer or seller an exceptional experience.”

alton Arts Center (WAC) purchased the Arkansas Music Pavilion (AMP) in February 2011 as part of an expansion strategy to meet the growing demand for more arts and entertainment in the Northwest Arkansas region. Over the past five years, the Walmart AMP has experienced tremendous growth that helps support arts programs at Walton Arts Center like the popular 10x10 Arts Series, Take-A-Seat and educational programs for local schools. The Walmart AMP, which opened in June 2014, provides a fun and comfortable concert-going experience and serves a broader audience to create more entertainment and increased economic activity around the region. The permanent outdoor music venue has upgraded technical capabilities, a seating capacity of 9,000+ with covered seating for up to 3,500 patrons, and the largest outdoor stage house in Arkansas, all set in a vibrant commercial district with restaurants, shopping outlets and hotel accommodations. The Walmart AMP continues to bring bigger and better acts to Northwest Arkansas each season, with lineups that include a wide variety of artists and entertainment: from legends like Carlos Santana and Willie Nelson to country stars like Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean and Kenny Chesney to more contemporary acts like The Avett Brothers, Twenty One Pilots and The Lumineers. The Walmart AMP returns summer 2017 with another season of stand-out music at NWA’s newest outdoor music destination. More information, including an up-to-date performance schedule, is available on the Walmart AMP website, amptickets.com. Tickets may be purchased online or by calling 479-443-5600.

Macadoodles owes all of its Awards & Success to its Loyal Customers! We opened our doors for the first time in 1997 and the NW Arkansas and SW Missouri customers have been very loyal. We wanted to offer more convenient service to thank them for their loyalty so we opened a store in Springdale in April 2010.

acadoodles once again has been voted to the top of the Best of the Best list by Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette readers, an honor the stores’ owner credits to outstanding selection and customer service. Macadoodles’ locations include Pineville, Mo., and Springdale, both which offer the same outstanding selection for which the flagship Pineville store became so well known. Macadoodles owner Roger Gildehaus said it’s a great feeling to know his loyal customers appreciate all the hard work put into each day by Macadoodles staff members. “This award reinforces our strong belief that we give our customers the great service they deserve,” he said. Gildehaus said Macadoodles has been recognized in the industry for the hard work of its associates, as well as for their efforts to be creative in selling products. Macadoodles’ founding principles are

From the beginning the customer has always been the top priority at MACADOODLES. Every idea, every plan and every detail has to pass the customer test. If it is the right thing to do for the customer, go ahead and do it. If it is not the right thing to do, go back to rule number one to make it right.

to have the best assortment of beer, wine and spirits in stock at all times; to have extremely competitive pricing; and to provide world-class customer service. Gildehaus said those fundamentals, along with ensuring an enjoyable shopping experience, draw in customers and keep them coming back. He also sees them as a big reason for the Best of the Best honor. “When you walk in the door, you will be greeted by a friendly staff member,” Gildehaus said. “At every corner there is someone to help, and when leaving, you will be thanked for coming to visit us.” Thanks in large part to the stores’ many great and loyal customers, Macadoodles just received the “2016 Retailer of the Year” award in September. “This award, as with the Best of the Best nomination, is a great honor for the Macadoodles brand and we again owe a big ‘thank you’ to our loyal customers and great staff of Macadoodles associates,” Gildehaus said. COLLIER DRUG STORES

Collier Drug Stores provide hometown service Special to NWA Democrat-Gazette

A

nyone who has lived in or around Fayetteville or the Northwest Arkansas area for any length of time likely has been in one of Collier Drug Stores’ nine locations. The family-owned drug store has been around since 1917, starting as Red Cross Drug Store on the Fayetteville Square, and was opened by M.M. Collier to provide a pharmacy for Fayetteville. Collier offered many modern conveniences like free delivery and charge accounts, and that tradition continues today. In 1930, Morris Collier joined his father in the family business after completing pharmacy school. The family opened their second location, Collier Rexall Drug Store, in 1950 on Dickson Street. A short time later, the store on

the Fayetteville Square burned, and they simply moved everything to the Dickson Street location. Many years later, Morris Collier’s sons, Carl and Morris Jr., joined the family business and continued providing service in and around Fayetteville. In 2007, Carl’s son, Mel, took over ownership and continued to expand, opening additional locations. These include Prairie Grove, Farmington, Willow Creek, Compounding, North Hills, Elkins, Bentonville and Har-Ber/ Tontitown. Collier Drug Stores’ compounding lab in the Willow Creek location provides medication not readily available on the market and compounded to meet a customer’s specific needs. Collier Drug Stores continues to provide hometown service, being one of the few places left to provide free delivery and charge accounts, just like many years ago.

MASSAGE ENVY NORTHWEST ARKANSAS

SPECIAL TO NWA DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

Massage Envy is located at 2603 W. Pleasant Grove Road in Rogers and 3557 N. Shiloh Dr. in Fayetteville. For more information, contact by phone at (479) 571-3689 for the Fayetteville location and (479) 633-8340 for the Rogers location.

Massage Envy premier spot for relaxation, more in Northwest Arkansas Special to NWA Democrat-Gazette

M

assage Envy became the first clinic for the national franchise to open in Arkansas in October of 2007. The Rogers clinic, which has been in operation for almost nine years, was recognized as the National Franchise of the Year in 2010. Mike Harris, franchise owner, was recognized in 2012 with the Spirit Award, the highest award in the franchise system. Massage Envy currently has close to 1,200 clinics nationwide and is in every state except for Wyoming. Mike and Ana Thelma Harris opened their second clinic in Fayetteville in 2014. This new clinic not only performs massages but has a fast-growing clientele for facials. The Rogers location plans on expanding to facials in the future as well. Arkansas now has five clinics statewide, with two in Little Rock and one in Jonesboro. Northwest Arkansas Massage Envy has close to 50 quality, licensed therapists and estheticians to service the clinics, which are located at 2603 W. Pleasant Grove Road in Rogers and 3557 N. Shiloh Dr. in Fayetteville. The clinics have 26 session rooms

NWA Democrat-Gazette Best of the Best

to provide quality services for their clients. Another feature that makes Massage Envy a popular choice is the hours of operation. Both clinics are open seven days a week, Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Massage Envy is a membership-based business but is available for members and non-members alike. Monthly members enjoy a one-hour massage or facial session each month for an attractive cost of only $60. Members are also eligible for additional sessions for only $40 each. Membership is the main driving force behind Massage Envy’s success. For first-time guests, an introductory offer of $50 for a massage or facial attracts many from Northwest Arkansas and is one of the reasons that the location has an extremely high membership base, even by Massage Envy standards. While membership has its advantages, both clinics service non-member clients for a regular price of $80 for an hour session. Northwest Arkansas Massage Envy has also become the employer of choice in the massage community. More than 17 employees have called Massage Envy home for at least five years, and several have been there for close to the nine years, when they first opened. Mike Harris points out that Mas-

32

sage Envy has a close-knit environment where therapists, estheticians, office and management personnel are treated like family. The compensation for the employees is also beyond the industry averages. Benefits for qualified employees include vacation, holiday pay, CEU reimbursements, and milestone bonuses. Another great benefit is scheduling, and Northwest Arkansas Massage Envy rewards employees for the hard work that they put in. Weekends and evenings are the best times to work and provide the best compensation packages, although they are not required. Harris also encourages anyone considering a career in massages or facials to contact the clinic to learn more about getting started in a career that can be very rewarding financially, with the flexibility of being able to work when you want to work. Massage Envy also looks for those with bilingual skills, a very strong need in Northwest Arkansas. “This is one career where a person can simply dial up the income they wish to earn based on their ability, and I highly recommend contacting a member of management to see how you can become part of this incredible industry, he said.

A brand-new 6-bay service and detail facility, along with a separate used car building and added asphalt storage space, will be unveiled by the end of the year. With the vehicle inventory continually growing, Adventure Subaru hopes that this expansion will be just another great reason to come visit the Fayetteville dealership. Adventure Subaru believes in giving

back to the community that has made it such a popular destination. The dealership is involved in many nonprofit and charitable events, with the annual “Share the Love” campaign coming up later this year. Over the past 20 years, Subaru of America has donated more than $50 million to various causes and logged more than 28,000 volunteer hours. The Fayetteville retailer has donated nearly $50,000 to Feed Communities, a local organization whose mission is to increase access to healthy foods and improve healthy food choices. Adventure Subaru is located at 2269 N. Henbest Dr. For more information, visit the dealership online at adventuresubaru.com.

he foundation of Elite Title Company, Inc., established in 1994, rests on two principal pillars: independence and accuracy. In order for a title company to provide equal and fair treatment to all parties of every real estate transaction it must be independent of all parties and it must be accurate and on time with its work product. Throughout the past 22 years the evolution of the business environment of Northwest Arkansas has undergone many changes. Our industry is no exception. Special to NWA Democrat-Gazette

F

or the seventh straight year, Lindsey and Associates has been nominated as one of the best real estate companies. Started by Jim Lindsey and J.W. Gabel in 1972 in a small little house on U.S. 71, Lindsey & Associates has continued to grow. Lindsey and Associates currently has one location in Fayetteville and one in Rogers. In August 2006, the 74,000-square-foot Lindsey Tower in Fayetteville opened to accommodate the growing real estate company, which now has more than 200 real estate agents. Rigo Gomez, senior vice president, sales manager and designated executive broker for the Fayetteville office, said that Lindsey’s on-going success is built upon a legacy of putting the customer first, an attitude that is practiced by our managers, agents, and staff. “It’s in our DNA, we are delighted that our clients and customers continue to choose us as best real estate company. This award underscores our unwavering devotion to superior customer service, an oath we practice every day, and a comSPECIAL TO NWA DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE mitment that our agents have practiced since our modest beginnings in 1972,” he said. Suzette Sparks, senior vice president and managing broker for the Rogers office, said Lindsey is the perfect combination of great ownership, the best agents and a dedicated staff. She said that Lindsey is dedicated to providing full service to its agents and clients. “Whether it is advertising, temporary housing, or an unsurpassed honest and ethical approach to business, Lindsey & Associates will not be outdone,” she said. “That in addition to the most knowledgeable, caring agents sets us apart from any competitor.” Lindsey’s friendly, professionally trained sales associates are committed to helping their customers buy or sell a home. They understand that buying or selling a home can be a very scary process, and they work with people every step of the way. Potential buyers or sellers can search for property, contact a realtor, learn the steps involved in buying or selling property, find out about career opportunities and learn about the company itself at lindsey.com.

SPECIAL TO NWA DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

og Party USA has had a busy year, full of improvements for the puppies. Beautiful artificial turf, called K-9 Grass, has been installed in some of our play yards so the dogs can play and romp all day, even in the pools, and not get muddy. It has been a truly wonderful addition. There is also a new agility field that is separate from the rest of the campus, so it will be useful for agility clubs, and people who would like to practice agility on their own schedule. Among the other improvements are a new electrical system, new eco-boxes to clean the air, remodeled play structures, gates, corridors, new phone system and more. Many more additions are planned for the coming year, such as new air conditioning units, more artificial turf, and even a swimming pool! We also have a new software system which features the ability to request reservations for boarding or daycare online. Another development has been the addition of a comprehensive and structured training system for the Pet Care Technicians. Studying the subtleties of dog body language and communication helps the staff to give the best possible care to each individual according to their personality and unique needs. The study of the dynamics of group play help the staff to prevent conflict before it ever begins by understanding how different dog breeds interact with one another and recognizing signs of anxiety or arousal. “Group off-leash play was a relatively new concept when we opened eleven years ago,” said owner Chaddie Kumpe Platt. “Continuing our education through national conferences and experts such as The Dog Gurus helps keep our four-legged customers and staff happy, healthy, safe, and motivated.” Dog Party USA will be hosting their annual Halloween Costume Party on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 5:30-8 p.m. There will be delicious food from the Cuisine Queens, live music from “Me & Owen & Charlie,” a costume contest with prizes, games, goody bags and more! Each year has a different theme and this year’s theme is “Peace, Love and Paws,” something we all need now more than ever.

They are on call around the clock to provide 24/7 emergency service for residential and commercial customers. Bud Anderson service technicians can assist with any emergency heating and air conditioning situations. Bud Anderson also performs crawl space encapsulations and installation of HVAC systems for new constructions. A crawl space encapsulation involves leveling of the crawl space; removing debris, dirt mounds and leftover construction materials; and adding a 90-mil airtight liner that seals and insulates the home from underneath to keep out mold, mildew and soil gases. It also helps lower the energy costs year round. Focusing on providing good customer service

With a program for high school students offered through Northwest Technical Institute in Springdale, Career Academy has about 400 students enrolled at any one time, according to Butenschoen. “Ninety percent of the salons in Northwest Arkansas prefer to hire our students,” he said, citing a survey he conducted. “We get our students ‘salon ready’ so they can get start making good money right away.” More information on Career Academy of Hair Design is available at beautynwa.com.

THE MEADOWS

SPECIAL TO NWA DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

The Meadows treats residents like family Special to NWA Democrat-Gazette

T

he Meadows Independent and Assisted Living’s motto is, “Our family caring for your family with honor, dignity, and respect,” and that’s exactly what they do. The facility is family owned and operated, therefore the residents are treated like family. “It has everything you could ever need for easy living; family taking care of family,” said Leroy Miller, a resident of The Meadows since 2007. “You are always treated like family,” said resident Verna Menard. The Meadows is a licensed Level II Assisted Living community with a unique setup. Level II licensing is held throughout the entire building, allowing residents to grow in place and adding services beyond the basic package, as needed. Services such as full medication administration, bathing, personal laundry service, assistance with personal hygiene, dressing, incontinence assistance and/or health maintenance support can be added.

NWA Democrat-Gazette Best of the Best

The Meadows has a nurse on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They hire Certified Nursing Assistants only to care for their residents in whatever services needed, as is appropriate for assisted living. The Meadows employs a Life Enrichment Coordinator to provide activities and opportunities for the residents to interact with other residents and the outside community. They attend concerts, go to Northwest Arkansas Naturals baseball games, participate in Wii bowling tournaments, create arts and crafts, have Canasta groups, meals out in local restaurants, cooking classes, exercises classes, trips to local stores and many other activities. Aside from the five-star care it offers, The Meadows also prides itself on being more like a five-star hotel rather than a medical facility. The community has 65 private apartments with floor plans ranging from studio to a large, two-bedroom apartment. Each has modern kitchen appliances, window treatments, carpet and individual climate controls. The facility has a full kitchen staff that prepares and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. The Meadows also has a licensed Alzheimer’s wing.

62

This specialized memory care wing offers additional structure and safety features for residents with progressed dementia or Alzheimer’s. Residents are offered the best quality of life within a secure, home-like environment. The 10-unit, private apartment wing has a patio, dining room, activity area and family room, as well as a high staff-toresident ratio. The Meadows is committed to providing an exceptional training program that increases caregiver competency and quality of care for their residents. Earlier this year, they contracted with The Institute for Professional Care Education to provide excellent online education and additional certifications for the employee who wants to go above and beyond the basic education required by the state regulations. All of the education and extra certifications are provided free to the employees. The Meadows is located in Bentonville at 2300 SE 28th Street. More information and pictures are available online at themeadowsinbentonville.com and themeadows. smugmug.com or by calling (479) 273-9969. Daily tours are welcome.
