“Forever In Our Hearts

Fill not your heart with pain and sorrow

But remember me in every tomorrow

Remember the joy, the laughter, and the smiles I’ve only gone to rest a little while. Although my leaving causes pain and grief

My going has eased my hurt, and has given me relief. So, dry your eyes and remember me, Not as I am now, but as I used to be Because I will remember you all; and look on with a smile.

Understand in your hearts, I’ve only gone to rest a little while.” – Author Unknown

In the quiet settlement of Holmes Rock, on February 24th, 1977, Miken and Helen Miller welcomed a set of twins; a boy and a girl affectionately named Melvin and Miriam. A rarity, the eighth and ninth addition, an added joy to the Miller household. As Melvin was the oldest of the set, Miriam was the baby girl of the family.

She attended Holmes Rock Primary School, and Eight Mile Rock High School. She remained close with her schoolmate and childhood friend Sheena Colebrooke. Growing up, Miriam and her cousin Julianne had a tight sisterly bond that remained until adulthood. In 1988, the Miller Family was dealt a devastating blow, when the head of the household was tragically taken away. Miriam was 11 years when her father passed, but the memories of an awesome provider and protector are forever etched in the family’s hearts.

Mr. Miller (Miken) had a special place in his heart for the last four children; Michael, Nicholson, Melvin and Miriam. They were like his four limbs. He took them everywhere he went, and would spend as much time as he possibly could with them, while taking them for car rides and treats. Miriam loved to experiment, especially when it came to creating new dishes. She could never live down one experiment in the kitchen where she lovingly earned the nickname “BT aka Boil Turkey” when she decided she would boil a whole ‘frozen’ turkey for the family. After being teased mercilessly, Melvin being the older and understanding twin, not wanting to hurt Miriam’s feelings, decided to help her out by baking the boiled turkey and eating it. Just as Melvin wanted to protect his twin baby sister’s feelings, this was reciprocated many times and in many ways.

In one major way, Miriam had taken a trip and left her car with Melvin. The day that Melvin was supposed to pick Miriam up from the harbor was the very day Melvin accidently set Miriam’s car ablaze. Melvin feared the worst. He was afraid to tell her that her car had burned down, and was afraid of her reaction. Miriam’s response was one of concern for Melvin’s well-being and not of her car, which had burned to the ground. Miriam never remembered their birthday or their age. Every year on their birthday, Melvin had to remind Miriam it was their birthday and every year her response was “How old are we again?”

In 1997, Miriam was married to Fabian Burrows, and this union produced her first daughter, Azavier Burrows. Her second daughter, Siarah Strachan, was born years later. Miriam’s greatest accomplishment was her daughters, they were her pride and joy. She supported and loved them fiercely and was very protective of both her baby girls.

Miriam was employed at Our Lucaya Hotel from 2000 to 2020, where she started out in the Housekeeping Department. Being an industrious individual, she was transferred to Resort Services. During this tenure, she developed friendships with her coworkers Jonetta Stubbs and Patsy Hepburn.

Miriam enjoyed simple pleasures in life. She loved going for long car rides, a joy that derived from her childhood days of going for car rides with her dad and siblings. She also loved to sing, especially lip syncing to songs, watching movies particularly those African movies, along with watching Tiktok reels and painting her fingernails.

In 2018, Miriam began experiencing headaches. As the headaches persisted, Miriam decided to seek medical attention, where it was discovered that these headaches were as a result of hypertension. Subsequently this lead to kidney complications. Through her illness, Miriam exuded strength, while being courageous and determined, especially when faced with adversities.

Miriam was a strong person with a lively personality and she never let her illness change her prospective on life. To describe Miriam, one would say that she had the strength and determination of Margaret Thatcher, the heart and compassion of Mother Theresa, and the bubbly personality of Kamala Harris. Miriam, in her own unique way, possessed these characteristics of these strong women. Miriam wore her heart on her sleeve and was plain speaking, while some would say, a little feisty at time. As Miriam continued to follow the doctor’s orders relating to her medical condition, her health began to decline and on July 6th she was taken back to hospital for medical attention. Peacefully and quietly on July 7th at 9:22 am, she slipped away from this world and into the arms of her Lord and Saviour. She will forever be remembered as a loving and caring person, a devoted mother to her two daughters, a doting grandmother, a dedicated daughter, a loving sister, and a faithful friend.

Her memories will forever remain in the hearts of her:

CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF MIRIAM LESLIE MILLER

Invocation……………………………………………………………………Pastor Marvin Rolle

Congregational Hymn

Oh Lord, my God

When I, in awesome wonder

Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

Great Thou Art

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art.

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing He bled and died to take away my sin.

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation

And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart

Then I shall bow, in humble adoration

And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

How great Thou art, how great Thou art.

Recessional Hymn …………………….………………………………………… And Can It Be

And can it be that I should gain An interest in the Saviour’s blood? Died He for me, who caused His pain? For me, who Him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

’Tis mystery all! The Immortal dies: Who can explore His strange design? In vain the first-born seraph tries To sound the depths of love divine. ’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore, Let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father’s throne above So free, so infinite His grace Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam’s helpless race: ’Tis mercy all, immense and free, For, O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay, Fast bound in sin and nature’s night; Thine eye diffused a quickening ray— I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

Words of Comfort and Committal

1. There was a time I traveled

A lonely sinful road

Beneath a heavy burden bending low

But now all things are different For Jesus took my load It's alright now I'm His I know.

Chorus—

It's alright now

2. A-down a lonely pathway

Without a friend to guide I walked in sin and sorrow all alone 'Til Jesus came and found me And drew me to His side It's alright now for I'm His own.

For I am in my Savior's care It's alright now

My Savior hears and answers prayer He walks beside me 'Til I climb the heav'nly stair And ev'rything is alright now.

3. No more in sin I wander No more in darkness roam The Lord has placed My feet on higher ground

Each day new heights I'm gaining My soul is nearing home It's alright now I'm heaven bound.

1. There will be a happy meeting, In heaven I know; When we see the many loved ones We’ve known here below. Gather on the blessed hilltop With hearts all aglow. That will be a glad reunion day.

Chorus—

2. There within that Holy City We’ll sing and rejoice; Praising Christ the blessed Saviour, With heart and with voice. Tell Him how we came to love Him, And make Him our choice, That will be a glad reunion day.

Glad day, a wonderful day, Glad day, what a glorious day! There with all the holy angels And loved ones to stay; That will be a glad reunion day.

3. When we live a million years, In that wonderful place; Basking in the love of Jesus, Beholding His face, It will seem but just a moment, Of praising His grace, That will be a glad reunion day!

My Angel In The Sky

Mommy you were my refuge, my best friend. Every time running to you after daddy made me mad. Laughing at TikToks, watching shows together will without a doubt be my favorite memories of us. Coming home from school seeing you in the kitchen will be a hard routine to break now that you’re gone. Your fun and easy going spirit always brought joy and laughter to me and those around you. There were many times me and you argued and fought but you’ll forever be the best mommy ever. Until we meet again in the sky.

~Your baby girl, Siarah

To My Mommy

My mommy, “CC Mommy” as Easton calls you. I’ve felt your absence every day of my life since you’ve left me. So much love and patience you possessed, even on dark days your smile and that playful side showed me that you were there for me no matter what.

I’ll miss those 6 minute voice notes, the long phones with you arguing but I know Jehovah has better plans for you. He saw the sleepless, painful nights and said no more. I am grateful for the time He’s given me to have you as my mother, although you are gone the memories with you will live on in my heart, precious moments that can never be erased. I love you mommy until we meet again. Loving memories forever and a day. ~Your Zavie

To My Other Half

In the quiet moments, I feel our bond so deep. Your laughter echoes in my heart, in memories I keep. With a sassy spirit and smile so bright, you lit up my world, even in the darkest night. Though short in stature, you stood your ground; Courageous and fierce, your strength knew no bounds. Forever my Jill, and I your Jack, in every step I take, I feel you at my back.

Though we’re apart, you’re always a part of me, A sister’s love an eternal legacy. ~Love always, Melvin

We the Family of Miriam Miller would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation for the outpouring of love, kindness and thoughtful gestures that have been shown to us during this difficult time of bereavement. We are truly grateful for your continued prayers and support.
