A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE OFFICE
2024 has been a year of transformation and progress.
As we close out another remarkable year at Berg Engineering, we would like to take a moment to reflect on our achievements, celebrate our people, and look forward to the opportunities ahead.
2024 has been a year of transformation and progress. From installing cutting-edge equipment like the Okuma double-column machine to breaking ground on our new workshop in Indonesia, we’ve continued to push boundaries and expand our capabilities. These advancements position us as industry leaders and strengthen our commitment to delivering exceptional solutions for our clients. Our team remains the heart of our success.
This year, we welcomed new talent to key roles and invested in professional development across all levels of the organisation.
We also prioritised diversity and inclusion, ensuring our workforce reflects the communities we serve and our belief that great ideas come from varied perspectives.
We’ve built stronger connections with clients and partners while exploring innovative technologies to drive efficiency and reliability for our clients’ operations.
As we venture into 2025, we’re poised to achieve an even more significant impact through collaboration, ingenuity, and our unwavering dedication to excellence.
Our team remains the heart of our success.
Thank you to our employees, clients, and partners for being part of this journey. Your trust and commitment inspire us to keep raising the bar.

MACHINING MAXIMISED
This year one of our key priorities was to scale up our machining capabilities - putting a renewed focus on our Titan mill in Gladstone, and installing our brand new Okuma machining centre in Brisbane. This has cemented us as a leader in high quality, efficient, large-scale machining which, combined with our specialist welding and fabrication capabilities, positions Berg as the preferred partner for heavy industry manufacturing and refurbishments.
The Titan
Our Titan SC 40/50-4HY double column vertical boring and turning mill has been delivering impressive large diameter manufacturing and refurbishments to support our critical local power generation and mineral processing industries.

The Okuma Arrives
We were thrilled to officially launch our brand new Okuma MCR-A5CII 25 x 40 Double Column Machining Centre at our Brisbane facility last month. The new machine has replaced our recently decommissioned Okuma MCM20 Twin Pallet Double Column Machining Centre, enabling us to deliver the very best in machining capabilities with faster solutions and turnarounds.
Our Brisbane Workshop Manager Daniel Bryant made a trip to Okuma Corporation in Japan in August to tour the facility and inspect the new assembled machine before it was disassembled, packed and shipped to Brisbane.
After its arrival and install in Brisbane, engineers from Okuma Corporation Japan joined the Okuma Australia technical team to commission the equipment with the first jobs coming through immediately after.
This is a seriously impressive machine and we look forward to what it will deliver for our clients.

CERTIFIED TO ISO 15614 SERIES FOR WELDING
During the year, we successfully achieved certification to the ISO 15614 series of welding specifications.
ISO 15614 series is an internationally recognised welding quality standard for arc and gas welding of steels, and arc welding of nickel and nickel alloys, titanium and overlay welds. Qualification means that welding integrity is assured throughout the entire manufacturing and fabrication process.
Berg has also successfully completed several other industry certifications including:
X ISO 3834-2: 2022 IIW Manufacturer Scheme
X ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management Systems
X ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management Systems
X ISO 45001: 2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems
BRISBANE UPGRADES
Our Brisbane workshop has undergone a string of improvements this year to enhance our capabilities, capacity and efficiency for clients.
In addition to the install of the new Okuma, improvements have included a mains power upgrade, the reinstatement of three additional CNC machines, as well as the acquisition of new weld machines, PTA machine and fume extraction system.

GLADSTONE NEW TECH
Our Gladstone workshop has been the recipient of new equipment this year thanks to two government grants.
In July, we received almost $140,000 from the Queensland Government’s Manufacturing Hubs Grant program.
The funds were used to purchase a new 3D scanner and material analyser which will further enhance our asset optimisation offering to clients by substantially reducing production lead times for reverse-engineered parts.
Where parts and components have become obsolete or hard-to-find, this technology is enabling us to scan an existing item and its material and create a digital replica. A new component is then manufactured in our fully equipped workshops with our machining, fabrication, hard facing, and painting capabilities to re-produce the component to exact specifications. The new component can then breathe a whole new lease of life into our customer’s asset.
Our Gladstone site also achieved a remarkable milestone, reaching three years Lost Time Incident (LTI) free days showcasing the team’s unwavering commitment to creating a safe and secure work environment.

BERG RECOGNISED AT GEA AWARDS
Berg was a finalist in the Innovator Award category at the 2024 GEA Gladstone Engineering Alliance Industry Awards Night in October.
The award recognised companies that have demonstrated innovative approaches to developing new business opportunities through new products, diversification, new markets or adapting to current challenges. We were up against some stiff competition on the night but were thrilled to have been standing alongside companies of great calibre.
METS MISSION TO PNG
The Austmine PNG Mining Mission took place in July and Berg was one of a select few Australian METS companies to take part
The mission comprised of a week of site visits, meetings, networking events and briefings with leading mining companies, local suppliers, associations and government bodies, offering the opportunity to deepen engagements and make new connections with key stakeholders in PNG.
As part of the exclusive delegation, we shared our extensive capabilities in servicing mining operations’ maintenance requirements with our asset optimisation programs, designed to maximise asset performance and life through a range of services including preventative maintenance plans, field service, repairs, spare parts, manufacturing, reverse engineering, rebuilds and more.

SUSTAINABILITY STARTS WITH US
In July, our CEO Derek Berg gave a presentation on the importance of empowering workforces when it comes to sustainability and managing carbon footprint.
“Managing carbon footprint is typically seen as a job for senior management - but when we’re focusing on managing the performance of existing assets, particularly on brownfields sites, power is in the hands of the people on the ground,” he said.
“We have found that when people can control their own destiny they become more engaged and more interested in what they’re doing. Carbon mitigation ceases to become just something for senior management. Everyone has a role to play in reducing emissions.”
MOU SIGNED WITH INDONESIA’S POLMAN BANDUNG
In November we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Polman Bandung, Indonesia’s leading polytechnic institute, to collaborate in the field of mechanical engineering.
The MOU seeks to deliver solutions and innovations to the Indonesian market by bringing together Berg’s engineering expertise in the manufacturing, re-engineering and refurbishment of assets for heavy industry, with Polman’s on-the-ground knowledge of the needs and challenges facing Indonesia’s mining, energy and infrastructure markets.
Our Principal Partner Nilu Berg said:
“We are thrilled to be further strengthening our ties with Indonesia through this partnership. Polman Bandung has a long history of excellence in engineering as both a centre for education and a hub for innovation.
“Together, our goal is to share knowledge and skills that will benefit our respective domestic markets as we support our clients in their ongoing quest for asset optimisation. In particular, the MOU aims to address and resolve the challenges faced by Indonesian industry, thereby helping businesses to remain competitive on the local and global stage.”
The signing of the MOU on 7 November included a tour of Polman’s impressive facilities in Bandung City, West Java.
The partnership follows several Berg initiatives in Indonesia as our presence in the region continues to grow.
