The invention of the backpack with frame received a great deal of praise, distinction, and international awards. The word “Bergans” became synonymous with “backpack” in many countries (e.g. England, the Netherlands, and China).
Roald Amundsen wrote a letter of thanks to Bergans in 1928: “I have on several occasions been using Bergans Meis and Knapsack, and it has always served me exceedingly well.”
Lincoln Ellsworth’s father financed Roald Amundsen’s expedition to the North Pole with the airship Norge. The condition was that his son would participate.

Ellsworth and the crew onboard the airship Norge have been credited together with Amundsen for being the first to discover the North Pole from the air.
Byrd started his first expedition to Antarctica in 1928. The expedition comprised two ships and three airplanes. Byrd and his crew successfully performed a flight to the South Pole and back to the base, a feat that put their names in the history books.
The first person to conquer Mount Everest (8850 m or 29,029 feet above sea level). He climbed Mt. Everest on 29 May 1953 together with Sherpa Tenzing Norgay.
