A NOTE FROM OUR TEAM


A Note From Our Team At the end of 2020, I turned 40 years old. For someone who has been moving non-stop in the real estate world coming up on two decades now, this was one of those moments suspended in time. I always saw myself as a young kid from St. Paul who came from modest origins. Born in 1980, it has been easy to see time measured in spans made up of ten years. Now walking out of the threshold of 2020 and peering into the future, I am filled with joy and excitement about what the next decade will look like for all of us. As we move away from the year 2020, it will continue to evolve and mean different things to different people. Everyone had to grow up and open our eyes to all sorts of realities around us. We started to prioritize in a different format. For some, this meant a shift in lifestyle and ultimately moving to a new residence. One thing was sure, real estate and where we spent time in our primary residence suddenly had more value. Either it meant more to everyone, or maybe it was a confirmation of the importance of where real estate actually stood in our daily lives. Real estate takes on a patina over time. The word patina is one I have been thinking about and it serves as the inspiration for our cover photo of the Kaufmann House in Palm Springs. This landmark residence, now approaching 75 years old, has not only become better with age but also represents the metaphor for gaining wisdom with time.

Every once in a while, we are fortunate to come in contact with other humans who offer a glimpse of our potential, what our best life could be. The catalyst for the beginning of my career can be traced back to a single person. When I was still in college in the late 90s, I was drawn to real estate at the beginning of what was a rapidly shifting urban core of downtown Minneapolis. A seasoned broker was an inspiration for me to enter into the world of real estate sales and marketing. He was well respected by his peers, had a sterling silver reputation and true grit. I admired and still carry all of these elements in what I do today in my practice. Throughout my nearly two decades in the Twin Cities real estate market, the appeal of a real estate sales team that was bolder in not just the way it looked, but how it operated behind the scenes. The art of the deal drives me. It’s not about being different, but being smarter. Seeing the opportunity of social and digital harnessed in the marketing and transaction of properties, we have gone on to successfully represent over $500 million in real estate. Experienced in the deal and quick to react, we constantly have our clients and assets front of mind. The Kaufmann House was designed and built in 1945 by Austrian born architect Richard J. Neutra for Edgar J. Kaufmann Sr. – an American department store entrepreneur as a winter vacation residence away from his Pittsburgh home. A decade earlier, Kaufmann commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to build Fallingwater in Mill Run, Pennsylvania. Richard Neutra was on the forefront of modern residential architecture and is one of the most important architects of the 20th century. After moving to the United States from Vienna, Austria, in 1923, Neutra worked with Frank Lloyd Wright and Rudolf Schindler until 1930 when Neutra began his own practice. Although he considered Wright for the “Desert House”, Kaufmann commissioned Neutra, who employed a more modernist and International Style approach using glass, steel and some stone in the design. Interestingly, Neutra used the same stone masons that Wright and Kaufmann had employed for Fallingwater a decade earlier. The home is a one story structure that subtly accommodates the site by stepping up slightly on three levels. This is made more dramatic by the introduction of a roofed (but otherwise open-air) second floor room. Centered above the main entrance is an outdoor room that Neutra called “The Gloriette” –from the 12th century French for “little glory.” From this elevated space are stunning views of Mount San Jacinto.

The home’s large swimming pool is one of the most recognizable features of the Kaufmann House, immortalized in part by the iconic photographs of Julius Shulman in 1947 and again by Slims Aarons in 1970. However, this space is not solely a photographic gem or simply a recreational feature. The swimming pool creates a compositional balance and sense of harmony throughout the property. THE KAUFMANN HOUSE IS NOW CONSIDERED TO BE AN ARCHITECTURAL LANDMARK AND STANDARD, AS WELL AS ONE OF THE MOST NOTED H O M E S O F T H E 2 0 T H C E N T U R Y.

ROSALIA PIZZA


The spark of Rosalia came after visits to the island of Sicily. Originally conceptualized as Sicilian-influenced pizza, we were struck by the heavy influence of Middle Eastern and Roman flavors in the region. We lept at the opportunity to marry these flavors with pizza in our menu. Our wood oven pizzas feature dough toasted with the traditional Neapolitan leopard print burn bubbles and possess a multi-sensory chewiness beside the crispier style of pizza reminiscent of our time in Sicily. Drawing on inspiration from the Argentinian and Italian upbringing of our owner and Chef Daniel Del Prado, our menu showcases the Argenytian-style pizza called “Fugazza.” This style of pizza was created by Genovese immigrants in the late 1800s.
