FROM THE EAST Brethren, “Seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be open unto you” It is no accident that each of our Masonic Degrees commences with the candidate giving three distinct knocks on the door of the Lodge with his own hand. This act by and of itself bears a great significance within Masonic Ritual and indeed hold out a great lesson for us in our daily interaction with the outer world. By giving those knocks, the candidate indicates his preparedness to face whatever lies ahead. What danger, if any, lurks behind those doors, he cannot at this point contemplate. But putting his Faith and trust in the guiding hands of the Supreme Architect of the Universe, and moved by his burning passion for further illumination, he presses forward into a whole new world of possibilities. For that which he seeks lay behind those doors, and only by having it opened unto him can he commence or continue that journey. Similarly in our everyday lives we meet with many obstacles, obstacles that may at times seem insurmountable and threaten to derail us from achieving our set goals. But if those goals are worthwhile and if we persevere in our quest, we shall surely succeed. For just as that candidate stands undeterred by the door that stands between him and his journey, so must you also be resolute in your pursuits as you seek to fulfill the promise of a better you and ultimately a better world. If you indeed seek, you shall surely find; and if you knock, it shall be opened unto you. Fraternally, Paul H. Schutz, Sr. WM
