FROM THE EAST Brethren, Every lesson that Freemasonry teaches is of practical use in our everyday lives. Although the method of teaching may seem strange to some and, at best, out-dated to others, the fact remains that within our rituals and ceremonies there is to be found the key to living a good and useful life. We do not expect fame and fortune as the world sees it, nor is that something we would particularly value. Our aspiration is to live quietly, humbly, happily in accord with family, friends and connections; to pursue our careers and jobs with satisfaction, giving our best, and at all times mindful of what is real and what is only temporary. This is further reinforced in the rituals of the Third Degree where we are forced to contemplate our own mortality and encouraged to keep eternity in view. Thus, in so doing, it is hoped that our values will be more attuned to the eternal and we will act here on Earth in such a way that our beliefs in the principles of love and benevolence will be demonstrated in all aspects of our lives. Fraternally, Paul H. Schutz, Sr. WM
