BELMONT'S PINK LADIES
RECEIVE $20,000 UPGRADE Shortly after the Belmont District Hospital opened in 1968 a small group of dedicated women established the Belmont Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, fondly known as the Pink Ladies. In those early years, the Pink Ladies created a basic set-up in the hospital’s car park where cold cups of cordial and biscuits were for purchase to visitors and patients of the Hospital, with the proceeds being gifted to Belmont Hospital improvements. Fast-forward almost 55 years and while the location of the Pink Ladies kiosk has moved to a purpose-built space within the hospital itself and the organisation’s legacy is as committed as ever to those original goals of providing support to the Belmont Hospital. COVID-19 took its toll with the pandemic forcing the Pink Ladies Kiosk to close. Volunteer’s involvement became restricted and the kiosk’s kitchen equipment sat unused for nearly two years, quickly deteriorating and in desperate need of updating. Armed with an issue, Secretary for the group Fay Smith approached Belmont 16s with a detailed funding application requesting for a donation towards the purchase of two new kitchen items that would provide improved safety conditions for the volunteers as well as efficiency in their food service. The board approved the donation of $20,726.60

which covered the purchase of an automated commercial grade coffee machine as well as a 'Merrychef' a high speed oven designed to reduce meal preparation times, its multifunction also means it could replace a plethora of old out dated kitchen appliances. The Pink Ladies were humbled by our donation and operations of the kiosk will re-commence shortly after these new appliances arrive. The kiosk is usually open daily from 9am to 2pm. All proceeds made from coffees / hot meals at the Pink Ladies Kiosk head straight back into the Belmont District Hospital and are used towards the purchase of medical equipment and upgrades.
of these volunteers " Some have been here for many
years, doing what they think is best with their time and giving back. This donation just makes it easier for them to do so.
