Words From the Dugout I do believe we have a good opportunity to be challenging for the play off places. I would like to welcome all connected with Halesowen Town Football Club for this evenings’ match at the Oval. Our visitors have made a great start to the season and no doubt with their resources and experience they will be in the mix at the end of the season. We have made a steady start and hopefully will grow into the season as it progresses. We were somewhere near to having full strength squad but lately had a couple of setbacks, with Jorrin John and Patsun Tufan picking up hamstring injuries. On a positive note, wewill hopefully be welcoming back Luke Keen soon. He has been recovering from a back operation and progressing well and beginning to train with the first team regularly. If we can keep a fully fit squad, I do believe we have a good opportunity to be challenging for the play off places, but just trying to get off to a half decent start will be a huge positive with the first 6 league matches being tough. The fully funded Football Education Programme starts up once again the first week of September, with places still available. This academy course combines a great education platform to progress to university, American scholarships or land a sport related job. They study whilst still developing their whole round footballing game. With excellent football progression routes through out the football club it gives these 16–18-year-olds the best of both worlds. For further information and application form please see our main website. I know a lot of you have been enquiring about the health of our chairman. For those that are unaware, Neill had a quadruple bypass operation just over 3 weeks ago. He is recuperating at home now and slowly improving and we all wish him a speedy recovery. We have yet another hard game in store tonight, so please stay positive and enjoy the game. Stuart

Last Time Out FA Cup preliminary Round Bedworth United 2 Kidsgrove Athletic 1 The Greenbacks won through in an ill tempered game against their Northern Premier League West opposition. The first half was controlled mainly by the visitors but neither team really tested the oppositions goalkeeper. Bedworth though were struck an early blow when Jamal Clarke had to leave the field with a hamstring injury to be replaced by Ricardo Dudley who had what could only be described as an eventful afternoon. Half Time Bedworth United 0 Kidsgrove Athletic 0 The second half started in much the same way as the first and within 2 minutes Kidsgrove Athletics pressure paid off when Kingsley Adu Gyamfi was adjudged to have been brought down in the area by Dudley. Kyle Diskin converted the penalty to put the visitors in front, this seemed to spark the Greenbacks into life and when Olly Mulders delivered a free kick to the back post in the 56th minute Elliott Parrot was there to head home to restore parity. From then on Bedworth took control and after Blackmore won the ball in the middle of the park gave it to Blythe who somehow wriggled between 3 Kidsgrove players released the ball to Parrot who played a one two with Mulders and found Blackmore with a raking forward ball who had burst into the Kidsgrove box. Blackmore unselfishly layed the ball of to Sawyers who with the goal at his mercy slotted the ball past the helpless Harrison in the Kidsgrove goal to give the Greenbacks the lead. Bedworth could have extended their lead but for the woodwork on a couple of occasions but it wasn't to be and they managed the final 20 minutes to win the game 2-1. There were ugly scenes after the game when Malbon who had been winding Dudley up since he came on as a sub took a swing at the Bedworth player which saw Dudley retaliate and Malbon coming off the worse. Adu Gyamfi the Kidsgrove goalscorer in a cowardly attack also attempted to swing at Dudley from behind which ended up with both sets of players and benches on the pitch. Unfortunately a few Kidsgrove supporters invaded the pitch and had to be removed with one having to be evicted from the ground by police. Full Time Bedworth United 2 Kidsgrove Athletic 1

Around the Ground Both ourselves and Halesowen were successful in the FA Cup Ties on Saturday hence the Match this Evening. Welcome to one and all to The OVAL for what we all hope is an entertaining game versus strong opposition. Everyone associated with the Club was overjoyed with our FA Cup win v Kidsgrove and by the time you read these notes we will know our opposition for the 1st Qualifying Round on Saturday 4th September. Thank you for the excellent support which I know helped the lads come back from the 1-0 deficit early in the 2nd Half. Also sincere thanks to all supporters for complying with instructions from our Security Staff during and after the unsavoury incident at the end of the Match; greatly appreciated. BIT OF HISTORY - Can anyone recall why the date of Wednesday 23rd September 1970 is so important in our Clubs history when we played Leicester City? It was the opening of our Floodlights and I am sure many of you will recognise the players involved although we lost 4-0. The Programme adverts are from many established Bedworth businesses from the time but sadly gone such as Bunney's, Elsie's Florist, Joe Davis Sports, J Stubbs, Taylor Vision, Spenser & Son, White Swan. Only one Business has survived and that is Alf England Motorcycles Up the Green backs'' Message from the Stadium Manager I would just like to put on record my thanks to the stewards on duty on Saturday who behaved and responded (in extremely difficult circumstance) impeccably to the numerous incidents that arose at the final whistle. I would also like to thank all Bedworth supporters for not getting involved and following instructions given by ground staff immediately. We could have had a major incident on our hands had you the Bedworth supporters behaved in the same manner as certain visiting supporters. Lastly I would like to thank those supporters who were looking out for my welfare and after everything had died down were asking me if I was ok it means a lot to me to know that within the club we have people who genuinely care for not only me but all of my staff. We are currently reviewing our procedures for incidents and one thing that has come to light is the need for more volunteers on matchdays so if you or anyone you know feels that they could volunteer as a matchday steward then please come and have a chat with either a member of the board or myself. 18

Bedworth United U21 Bedworth United 1-1 Barwell The Greenbacks started the game slowly with Barwell dominating the first 15 minutes. Goalkeeper Jack Taft making an important save to deny the Barwell no.9. Bedworth took the lead in the 25th minute after a brilliant move involving 6 players, Warwick Hurst with the goal. After the goal it was the Greenbacks that dominated from then on in, only the visiting keeper was the difference between Barwell keeping it respectable and Bedworth going in at the break with a 3 or 4 goal lead. HT 1-0 Keep it tight, don’t give away a bad goal, free kick or force the play early on and we will win this 3 or 4! Was the message at half time, but within 5 minutes of the restart Barwell were level after Bedworth lost possession on the half way line. A switch of play, a cross and Barwell pounced on the save to score.Bedworth dominated from that point with the visitors parking the bus playing with all 11 players behind the ball, Bedworth did manage to break them down twice but both goals were ruled out through offside. Barwell limited Bedworth to shots from distance, the visiting keeper making 4 finger tip saves.Kev Burke “we need to capitalise on the possession we have more often and score more goals from games when we have 80% possession” “ It will be a tough game on Saturday when we visit Coalville, making it even harder with 9 players out through injury or holidays”. 1

Youth Teams With both Youth teams playing Wednesdays there is very little to report with this being a Tuesday night game. We can say though that the new set-up with 2 teams the Midland Floodlit team and the development team is working extremely well with both sets of coaching staff working towards the same goal it has already seen players switch between the sides be that on form or due to necessity, The results from both teams so far in both friendly games and the first midland floodlit league game are proof that the future of the club is in good hands if these players keep developing as they are now.

Juniors With the start of the junior seasons just around the corner it is all systems go at this time of year for our junior coaches ensuring kit is ordered, players are registered, fixtures are confirmed and all the other things that have to be done behind the scenes to ensure that teams run smoothly. A lot of the junior teams have been away at tournaments over the close season its been pleasing to see that a lot have returned with silverware and good times have been had by all. If you fancy yourself as the next Thomas Tuchel or Pep Guardiola we are currently looking for coaches to take on junior sides. We will pay for you to complete your level 1 coaching badge and also for your DBS. As someone has now been involved in junior football for over 15 years I can honestly say it’s a rewarding hobby and to see players you have had since they were 7 progress into youth teams and U21 teams is extremely rewarding if you think this could be for you then please have a chat with a club official

Ladies After last weeks defeat the Greenbacks ladies were looking to get there first points on the board against a visiting Peterborough United side with kick off delayed due to unexpected roadworks which prevented the Peterborough Team from entering The OVAL preparation for both teams was a little disjointed. Peterborough came out the blocks flying and went 1 nil up within the first minute to instantly put pressure on the ladies in green. The Greenbacks ladies rallied though and through the always impressive Kirsty Farnsworth restored parity in the 7th minute both teams had chances in an entertaining first half to to take the lead but neither team could break the deadlock. Halftime Bedworth United Ladies 1 Peterborough United Ladies 1 The game became quiet a cagey affair until Peterborough scored in the 76th minute to retake the lead. This caused the Bedworth ladies to push forward searching for the equaliser which left gaps at the back which Kier Perkins for Peterborough exploited in an explosive 9 minute spell scoring a hattrick with her goals coming in the 80th, 86th and 89th minute to put the game beyond doubt. Todays Visitors A History Halesowen Town is one of the oldest teams in the country and claims to have been formed in 1873 although without much certainty. Local historian Norman Jones wrote “there is evidence which shows that for the first ten years of the team’s existence it was the James Grove Button Factory team and that it adopted the present name in the early 1880’s. The earliest records that the Football Association have on file relating to Halesowen Town F.C. are dated 1882…… When peacetime returned after World War II, the Club reformed. In season 1951/52 both Birmingham & Worcestershire Senior Cup Finals were reached. In front of a 6,000 crowd at Stourbridge, we lost in the Birmingham final to Brierley Hill Alliance but triumphed over Hednesford in the Worcestershire final, played at Bromsgrove. The same season saw us suffer our worst ever post-war defeat when we travelled to Merthyr Tydfil in the Herefordshire Senior Cup and were soundly beaten 0-9. 1955 brought our first major achievement when we reached the FA Cup Round 1 but lost 2 – 4 at home to Hendon in front of a packed Grove. In March 1955, Ronnie Dugmore notched an incredible 7 goals when we won 10-0 at Dudley in a Birmingham League match. In August 1957, we achieved our highest post-war winning margin when we beat Coventry Amateurs 13-1 in the Birmingham Senior Cup. The 1970’s brought a period of struggle for The Yeltz. Twice out of 3 successive seasons we finished bottom of the West Midlands League. At times, the only thing keeping us running was the effort of 'Mr Halesowen Town' - Harry Rudge. Before his untimely death in 1990, 'H' filled every role in the club at one time or other, including player, manager, groundsman, secretary and anything else you can think of. Then suddenly something strange happened - we got a decent team together and started winning things. Manager Paddy Page assembled a squad of promising youngsters, and in 1982-83 we had an unbelievable year. We won the West Midlands League for the first time, as well as winning the League Cup, but more importantly

26

Todays Visitors A History we reached the final of the FA Vase at Wembley narrowly losing 1-0 to VS Rugby. Not to worry, two years later we were back at the home of football. This time there was no mistake, as we beat Fleetwood 3-1 in the greatest day in the history of the club. By the next year we were getting a bit blasé about the whole thing, as we once again won the Vase by beating Southall 3-0 in front of over 17,000 people, most of whom had come down from Halesowen. From 1985 to 1991, Halesowen reached the 1st round of the FA Cup for 7 consecutive years. On 4 occasions we played professional teams, and each time we were unlucky to lose. SOUTHEND beat us 4-1, but were extremely flattered by that scoreline, breaking away in the last five minutes to clinch the game after we had been all over them in the second half. We lost 2-0 to BRENTFORD, again in a very even game. Against CARDIFF CITY, we lost 1-0 to a hotly disputed penalty and were by far the better team, and lost 2-1 to an excellent TRANMERE ROVERS side after taking the lead.

Season 2010/11 saw one of the poorest playing records in the Club's history finishing the season in bottom place, scoring only 24 goals and conceding 107. Shortly after the season ended, the Club was taken over by businessman Steve Lynch. Under the new ownership, season 2011/12 brought an encouraging start with The Yeltz undefeated in the first 5 league games, including a 3-1 home win over eventual champions Bideford. However, September brought early FA Cup exit at Rocester which was soon followed by a morale shattering 4-5 reverse at Wimborne, where a 4-1 lead was squandered in the last half-hour. An October FA Trophy loss at home to Romulus lead on to a bleak winter for Yeltz fans. In the autumn Steve Lynch had formed a management team to run the club on his behalf and under the Chairmanship of club stalwart Colin Brookes and Vice-Chairman John Russell, a lifelong Yeltz fan of 60 years. This brought

Todays Opponents PAUL SMITH – MANAGER Smith joined the Yeltz in the spring of 2019 after a spell as manager at Redditch United where last season he met the club’s remit of survival which he achieved comfortably. Paul, who lives locally, started his Managerial Career with Alvechurch where he made more than 250 appearances as a player. Following this he moved to manage Studley before, in 2014, he joined Bromsgrove Sporting in what would prove to be his most successful spell as Manager. He led the Rouslers to second place in Midlands League Division one. The following season saw more success, another second place was gained alongside two cup final appearances. The next season, if it could be, was even better, Smith led the Rouslers to the League Championship and were unbeaten in the league all season and he was a game from Wembley as Bromsgrove Sporting lost in the semi-final of the FA Vase against Cleethorpes Town. Smith left Bromsgrove in March 2018 and joined Highgate United for a while before joining Redditch United in September 2018. Until the 2019-20 season was declared Null and Void Paul was on target to steer the Yeltz to promotion and has reached the semi-final of the FA Trophy. MARTIN SOCKETT – ASSISTANT MANAGER Martin was the ex Rugby Town and Redditch United Manager has agreed to join Paul Smith’s backroom staff as Assistant Manager in 2021. JOHN SNAPE– ASSISTANT MANAGER Former fans favourite John Snape re-joined the Yeltz as Paul Smith’s Assistant. John made 284 appearances for the Yeltz between 1992 and 1998 scoring 25 goals. CRAIG NICHOLLS – FIRST TEAM COACH Craig joined the Yeltz as First Team Coach; he had a similar role under Paul Smith at Redditch United. JOSH CONEY – GOALKEEPING COACH Josh was with Paul Smith as goalkeeping coach at Redditch United and was keen to bring Josh to the club to complete his backroom staff. DANIEL PLATT – GOALKEEPER Dan re-joined the Yeltz in the Summer of 2021 for his second spell. Dan left at the end of the 2018-19 season having made 161 appearances, the 4th highest appearance total for a Yeltz goalkeeper. DANIEL WHITEHOUSE – Goalkeeper Dan has come through the ranks of our Youth and U-21 teams to earn his place in the first team squad, and excellent prospect. BRETT LLOYD – Defender Left back Brett joined the Yeltz from Loughborough Dynamos where he was for the last 3 years. Brett is described as a strong and pacy full back who likes to get forward to to support the attack.
