The Facts, The Progress, The Future - All in One Place

TLiving the Dream in Wasaga Beach

wenty years ago, I fulfilled my dream of living near South Georgian Bay by moving to Wasaga Beach. I purchased a small cottage in the west end—modest but perfect—because what truly mattered was being able to walk out my door and reach the beach in under a minute. It felt like paradise.

Over time, my little dream grew. I expanded the house, adding a new section, and now I have not one but four heating systems. That might sound excessive, but it happened gradually The original tiny cottage came with a gas fireplace and auxiliary baseboard heaters. Five years later, when I built the addition, I installed in-floor heating for cozy winters. Then, just last year, I made the leap to a heat pump - a decision that's been transformative.

Government programs have played a big role in making my home more efficient and affordable to maintain.Through one initiative, I received a $5,000 grant and an interest-free loan of up to $40,000.Thank you,Trudeau!

With that support, I wrapped the old cottage in high-density insulation and replaced the windows and doors.Today, my home is warm, comfortable, and energy-efficient, with significantly lower energy bills. As an environmentalist, I'm thrilled that these upgrades have also reduced my carbon footprint by cutting down on fossil fuel use.

If you own an older cottage, programs like these can make a world of difference. Many people aren't aware that heat pumps are dual-purpose marvels—they provide heat in the winter and cool air in the summer, all while being more efficient than traditional furnaces or air conditioners. Even if you only use your cottage in the summer, upgrading to a heat pump when it's time to replace your air conditioner is worth considering.

Excitingly, Ontario has just launched another new program: the Home Renovation Savings Program, which covers up to 30% of costs for upgrades like new windows, doors, insulation, heat pumps, rooftop solar panels, and battery storage. It's a fantastic opportunity to enhance your home's comfort and energy efficiency while saving money

I told my plants it's Valentine's Day, and now they're asking for a little more thyme.

My IQ test results came back. They were negative.

February: when the snow makes your lawn look as good as your neighbour's.

What did one light bulb say to the other on Valentine's Day? “I love you watts and watts!”

Why did the banana go out with the prune? Because it couldn't find a date!

What do farmers give for Valentine's Day? Lots of hogs and kisses!

I tried to make a snow angel, but it came out looking more like a snow couch.

Before you marry a person, you should first make them use a computer with a slow Internet connection to see who they really are.

I don't mind the snow... I just wish it didn't have to be so everywhere.

What do you get when you cross a polar bear with a seal? A polar bear.

One groundhog predicted six more weeks of winter - at this point, I think it's a life sentence!

What did one DNA say to the other DNA? “Do these genes make me look fat?”

What's the difference between an outlaw and an in-law? Outlaws are wanted.
