Board of Directors Recruitment Toolkit
Dear Prospective Director:
Thank you for your interest in serving as a member of the Board of Directors (“Board”) of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound (“BBBSPS” or the “Organization”). As President of the Board of Directors, I want to thank you for taking the time to consider your service and the concurrent responsibilities.
As a nonprofit corporation, BBBSPS is governed by a Board of Directors that works to set the vision, mission, and strategies, ensure financial stability, and provide general oversight, of BBBSPS. We are looking to strengthen our Board with individuals who share commitment to our mission and can provide expertise, skills, and resources to help us develop and grow. As you may know, the demands of serving as a director will require dedicated time, but the reward of being a steward of our mission is far more significant.
As you consider this possibility, we invite you to review our website to get to know the Organization. The information contained in this manual and attached documents will provide you with additional information about BBBSPS and the director application process and requirements. As you are considering membership, we will invite you to meet members of the Board, our President/CEO Alonda Williams and other staff members as needed.
At a minimum, the amount of time required for Board membership annually ranges from 40 -60 hours in your role as a director overseeing and advocating for the Organization. This amount of time includes attending regular Board meetings, serving on at least one committee, Board related trainings, BBBSPS events and an annual Board retreat. If at any time you have questions, please contact our Governance chair at Dan Rosales.
Thank you for serving as a director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound!
Sincerely,
Pat Ogawa Chair, Board of Directors
WELCOME!

Our service delivery model is what drives our results
Our unique evidence-based approach is our key to success
QUALIFYING MATCHING CONNECTION SUPPORT LASTING IMPACT
To ensure youth safety, each prospective mentor goes through comprehensive evaluation process which includes background checks, interviews, references, and training.
Once mentors complete the interview process, BBBSPS team identifies ideal potential youth. Once a potential Little is identified, a Match Proposal will take place.
BBBS staff prepare the youth and mentor for their Match Introduction. Matches meet virtually or in person throughout the year.
The BBBSPS team sticks with the match every step of the way
Staff connect with mentors and youth individually every month to see how the match is going and offer support & training.
Youth show improved outcomes across many areas as they grow up. Many matches become life-long friends, staying connected long after the youth have aged out of the program.
