BAYVIEW MACKINAC RACE
First race was in 1925
The world's longest continuously run long-distance freshwater race. It continued through WWII at President Roosevelt's request and in 2020 during the COVID Pandemic. Historically, over 180 boats entered with more than 1,700 crew participating Start on Saturday morning in southern Lake Huron, just north of the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, Michigan, and ends at Mackinac Island.
Two courses - Shore Course follows the shoreline of Michigan to Mackinac Island (204 Nautical Miles); Cove Island Course requires competitors to pass through a gate at the northeast corner of Lake Huron before finishing at Mackinac Island (259 Nautical Miles)
The race followers are from Detroit, Windsor, Sarnia, Port Huron, Chicago, and Mackinac Island.
The City of Port Huron hosts a celebration the week prior to the race called the Blue Water Fest.
Each boat is equipped with GPS Tracker (YP Racing) for live tracking via the YB Racing app and through the race website.
Completion medals are awarded to each competitor who finishes the race.
Flags are awarded at the Island Awards Party on Tuesday following the start of the race with over 3,000 participants and spectators on Mackinac Island.
Gold charms are awarded to first-place winners and plaques with line drawing of the boat are awarded to all winners at the Fall Awards Banquet held at Bayview Yacht Club.
Over 700 men and women have completed the Bayview Mackinac Race 25 times or more making them an "Old Goat."
Over 100 men and women have served on the Bayview Mackinac Race Committee 15 times or more making them an "Old Fort."
