Introducing Baylor School’s Scientific Analysis and Research Program

Baylor leads to the

Real World.

Baylor’s Scientific Analysis and Research Program gives highly motivated students in grades 10 -12 the opportunity to work closely with faculty mentors on real-world research projects. The program is designed for students who want to learn more about the research experience and possibly pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM). Students enrolled in the program will gain: • Analytical and critical thinking skills, • Scientific literacy and understanding scientific relevance, • Appreciation of the knowledge and skills of scientists, • Experience presenting their work in research symposia, • Competition for college admission, and • Foundations to succeed in STEM majors and careers.

What Can You Expect?

SOPHOMORE YEAR Tenth graders choose a research area that matches their interest and are assigned a research mentor.

Much of the first year is dedicated to developing a set of research questions, which students present to a research committee at the end of each quarter.

Students at each grade level present their work at the Baylor STEAM Symposium in May. Once they complete the program, they will graduate with the confidence and ability to pursue STEAM majors in college.

JUNIOR YEAR Eleventh graders are encouraged to enroll in Engineering Design or Scientific Research and begin refining their research questions, developing hypotheses, and developing their novel research. During the summer leading into their senior year they may conduct research in their field and work with their mentor to gauge progress.

SENIOR YEAR Twelfth graders continue their research, begin work on their final research papers, and mentor sophomores who are entering the literature phase of their research. They may also elect to present their research at conferences and national and regional competitions.
