iPad Information
CHOOSING AN iPAD
The Middle School curriculum requires iPads to enhance the classroom experience and introduce students to the responsible use of technology. The most current generation of the iPad (tenth at the time of writing) is required, and the introductory level device (Wi-Fi iPad with 128Gb storage) is sufficient. More expensive iPad models (e.g., iPad Pro and iPad Air) are not needed to complete work successfully. iPads should not have cellular data, since that prohibits the school from applying privacy and security protections that are required while on campus.
SAFE AND APPROPRIATE HOME USE
The school encourages parents and guardians to discuss the appropriate use of electronic devices with their students, as well as implementing software-based parental controls. At a minimum, Apple parental controls should be enabled; more thorough controls are available through third party providers if desired.
Cell Phone Policy
Barks Hall is a phone-free zone. Middle school students are not allowed to use their cell phones or other non-school related devices, including smartwatches, during the academic day. We expect students to be busy with learning, making friends, and exploring new horizons. Please do not call or text your children during the school day as this distracts from their learning.
Cell phones must be turned off during the academic day and stored in students’ lockers or backpacks. Phones used at

LOANER PROGRAM
In the event that a student’s iPad is lost or damaged, the Baylor School Technology Team has loaner devices available for up to two weeks until the device is replaced or repaired. Please note that these loaner devices are not available in the event that a student forgets to bring their device to school.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Further information about iPad safety can be found in myBaylor, and the school recommends the resources at StaySafeOnline. org for learning about cybersecurity and privacy protections. The primer Raising Digital Citizens (www.staysafeonline.org/ articles/raising-digital-citizens) is a good place to start. If you have any additional questions about student technology, please contact Dr. Dave Robinson, Chief Information Officer at cio@baylorschool.org.
unauthorized times will be collected and returned to the student by the end of the day, and two infractions will be assigned. Smartwatches may be collected by teachers at any time during the day should they be a distraction to the class environment or during testing situations. Please note that students may use the telephones located in Barks Hall and the Field House should the need arise, and parents are welcome to call the Middle School office to send a message to their child.
The School Day
• Classes begin at 8:40 a.m. (8:00 a.m. on half-days).
• Middle School students are dropped off in front of Barks Hall.
• On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, students can receive academic assistance from their teachers beginning at 8:00 a.m.

• Middle School classes end at 3:10 p.m.
• After school activities begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. and end between 4:30 and 5:15 p.m., depending on the activity. In August, the supervisor or coach of your child’s after school activity will share specific pick-up times and locations.
After School Activities
We believe that the benefits of competitive athletics and other extracurricular activities are fundamental to a child’s total education. Therefore, we require all students in grade 6 through 8 to participate in a Baylor after school activity each seasons. If you have questions or concerns about this requirement,
pleasse contact Emmie Treadwell.
Your child will have the opportunity to sign up for his or her after school activity each term. An example of after school activities for each season is below.
