At Baylor, intercultural learning starts on day one. Beginning in the sixth grade, we teach five world languages. Our boarding students hail from 14 different countries, and our Global Scholars Program connects language learning with a globally-focused curriculum and meaningful international travel experiences. The Class of 2020 (193 students) received acceptances to 217 different colleges and universities around the globe.

Whether they are analyzing data of contemporary urban issues in AP Human

Geography or researching breast cancer with equipment widely found in professional cancer labs, Baylor students leave for college with a broader way of thinking and new perspectives.

More than 75% of Baylor teachers hold advanced degrees, including 10 Ph.D.’s.

Baylor offers a vibrant and indepth Fine Arts program for all grade levels that includes theater, visual arts, dance, vocal music, band, and orchestra. While a minimum of fine arts courses is required of all students, our faculty are passionate about delivering the best possible experience for those who are interested in a deeper immersion or who may be considering further concentration in college.

Academic Support Learning Center All students have access to a Middle School Learning Center and a separate Upper School Learning Center. Designed to remove the stigma that extra help exists only for the struggling student, our Learning Centers allow for students to interact with their peers in an active learning environment.

Advisors All students are assigned an advisor who serves three official roles: academic monitor, student advocate, and facilitator.

Since 2017, on average, Baylor’s graduating class has earned more than

million in merit-based scholarships.

BAYLORWORKS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM Our alumni office connects graduating seniors and college-age alumni with business and industry experiences, like spending a summer researching at the Georgia Cancer Center in Augusta, Ga. Recent placements have included internships in education, finance, sports marketing, and non-profit management.

College Prep When Baylor students graduate, they’re not just alumni, they’re determined, passionate, and confident world citizens heading to colleges and universities in every region of the country and several countries abroad.

BEYOND the classroom.

On the stage, on the field, on the trail, in the pool, or in the neighborhood rec center, Baylor students learn teamwork, empathy, collaboration, and improvisation – critical skills for emerging leaders.

Baylor’s Walkabout program connects students to the outdoors almost every day of the year. It’s an afternoon activity, a weekend excursion, a summer adventure, and an international travel experience to Panama and India.

Baylor students tutor kids at local schools through our Community Service Program, but their work doesn’t stop there. Their tutoring serves as a catalyst for researching and writing grants to help underserved children and neighborhoods, and to improve educational opportunities for children in Kingston, Jamaica.

GAME ON!

One of the top high school programs in the country – but don’t take our word for it. Named

by Sports Illustrated as one of the Top 25 high school athletic programs in the country, and by MaxPreps.com as the most dominant high school athletic program in Tennessee. Baylor has won more state championships than any other school in the state and our facilities and fields rival most small colleges. Five alums are currently playing on the PGA and LPGA tours.

WORLD-CLASS Facilities.

Our 690-acres on the Tennessee River features a new state-of-art the academic building, a science and engineering building with its own $15 million endowment, an expansive fine arts complex, six dormitories, a spacious dining hall, and excellent athletic facilities – including the area’s only indoor 50-meter pool and a 22,000-square foot athletic training facility.

An historic $52.3 million campaign in 2018 paved the way for improved classrooms, residential spaces, and dining facilities. Millions more have been raised over the years to enhance our 24/7 learning and living community.

COSTS For the 2020-21 school year, tuition is $26,460 for

day students, $53,885 for domestic boarding, and $57,845 for international boarding.

FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS A Baylor education is a significant investment, but it doesn’t have to be out of your family’s reach. We are dedicated to working with you to help make a Baylor education possible and through the generosity of Baylor trustees and other patrons, approximately one-third of Baylor students receive need-based financial aid, and others earn merit awards through the Cartter Scholars Program and the JoConn Guild Scholarship.

HISTORY Founded as Baylor University School in 1893 in downtown Chattanooga, Baylor moved to its present location overlooking the Tennessee River in 1915 and operated as a military school from 1917-1971.

HONOR CODE Dating to 1916, Baylor’s Honor Code provides a structure within which students come to appreciate honesty, mutual respect, and their word as their bond. “The honor system is an understanding among Baylor students that we

do not want among us one who will lie, cheat, steal, or falsify information. I understand this principle, and I recognize that I shall be expected to live in accordance with it.”

LOCATION Located two hours from Atlanta, Knoxville,

Birmingham, and Nashville, Chattanooga was named “Best Town Ever” by Outside magazine. The vibrant downtown area is a five-minute drive from campus, affording students entertaining and relaxing weekend diversions, as well as opportunities to network and experience partnerships with local Chattanooga businesses, healthcare organizations, and universities.

OUR COMMUNITY On average, Baylor welcomes boarding students from 15 countries and 24 states, and day students from dozens of area neighborhoods. There are six dorms, 40 teachers and coaches who live on campus with their families, and students from divergent backgrounds and cultures and numerous traditions.

OUR FACULTY When students arrive on campus each day,

they’re welcomed by some of the leading minds in independent education. Baylor teachers have earned Fulbright Scholarships and the Presidential Award for Excellence, and more than 75 percent hold advanced degrees.
