Volume 108 No. 08
Chamber to host election forum Sept. 28
Staff With the federal election coming up Oct. 19, the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce will host an allcandidates forum. The event will be held at Third Avenue United Church
North Battleford, Sask.
Sept. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. The forum is open to the public and will take on a similar format to previous years with opening and closing remarks as well as time for written questions from Chamber members as well as the public.
Tuesday, September 22, 2015
According to Executive Director Linda Machniak of the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce, at least three of the four declared candidates from Battlefords-Lloydminster will be appearing. The indication is those candidates appearing will be
Gerry Ritz (Conservative), Sandra Arias (NDP) and Larry Ingram (Liberal). It appears unlikely at this point that the Green Party will participate, due to the distance the candidate must travel from Prince Albert. See Page 3 for more.
Riding in VIP Style Country artist Codie Prevost was performing at the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts in North Battleford Saturday and, prior to the show, he took part in a fundraiser for the Battlefords Human Society, which is working toward a new building. An online auction won by Karen Burtnick of Glaslyn saw her party of four joining Prevost for a tour of the animal shelter followed by a limo ride to to a pre-show supper and private performance. Left to right are Michelle Spark, shelter manager and executive director of the Humane Society, VIP package winner Karen Burtnick, who bid $340 for the package, Prevost, Michelle Hazzard, VIP package fundraiser organizer Heather Hall, Mike Lins and Bruce Hazzard. A raffle for two Fender guitars, supplied by Brock Andrews, who opened for Prevost, raised $1,124. See more online at www.newsoptimist.ca and watch for the story in Thursday’s Regional Optimist.
