There’s a new exhibition at the Chapel Gallery in North Battleford. The featured artist is Bonny Macnab of Mervin in an exhibition entitled Reflections of the Earth. Macnab has created hand painted silk panels that illuminate the Chapel Gallery through colourful reflections and pattern movement. Macnab, winner of a Canadian Institute of Portrait Artists National Open Exhibition award for excellence, is a watercolour, oil and silk painter well known in Saskatchewan. Guest artists Dean Bauche, Karlie King, and Jay Kimball have been invited to show selected works in conjunction with Macnab’s silk panels because she associates a kindred spirit of water among their works. Have you registered yet for the writers workshop at the North Battleford Library? It will be held this Saturday, March 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. facilitated by award-winning Canadian poet Barbara Klar. She has been publishing her work in journal, anthologies an books for more than 20 years. She has worked as a tree planter, editor, workshop leader ad freelance writer for print and radio as well as a mentor for the Banff Centre’s Wired Writing Studio. Klar will present an author reading at 5 p.m. To register, contract Carla at 306-445-3206.
There are some opportunities for great entertainment coming up at the Dekker Centre in North Battleford. Johnny Cash fans will enjoy David James and Big River when they present a tribute to the Man in Black Friday, March 28. Next week, Wednesday, April 2, Robert Post will be at the Dekker Centre with his one man variety show. This is an entertainer Dekker Centre manager Moe McGuinty says nobody should miss and he’s excited to add Post to the spring lineup. If you haven’t heard of this artist who sold out his Broadway show, check out his website at www.robertpost.org. If you like to laugh, you’ll love Robert Post. His reputation is one of being “completely insane,” at least that’s what Matt Lauer of the Today Show says. Agri-Mex is just around the corner. This year’s dates are Thursday, April 3, Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5. This annual trade show is one of the Battlefords most well-known events and is a sure sign spring is on the way. Head out to the Agricultural Society grounds where there will be more than 100 booths to check out for a mere $3. And, as always, breakfast is free on Saturday. Hours are noon until 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Meanwhile, the Canadian Antiques Roadshow will be at the Frontier Mall in North Battleford. April 2, 3, 4 and 5.
