Barton Peveril College | Update | May 2022 Important Dates up to 15th July • Monday 6th June: INSET DAY (the college will be closed to students on this date) • Tuesday 14th June - Friday 17th June: First Year CAPs • Monday 27th June - Friday 1st July: Vocational Work Experience Week: • Monday 27th - Wednesday 29th June: Year 11 Taster Days (College closed to students) • Tuesday 12th July: Parents’ Evening • Friday 15th July: Last day of term

CAPS Week: Tuesday 14th - Friday 17th June For four days, students will be sitting exam-like assessments. This gives students the opportunity to have an examination experience and for staff to assess both their progress and examinations skills. These will be rigorous assessments and we expect all students to study effectively. The grades from these assessments, coupled with the students’ commitment levels throughout the year and other subject assignments, will be used to establish UCAS predicted grades. Students’ timetables on Studio will update with the dates, times and venues for the CAPs in due course.

Transport Reminder As you know, from the 16th of May to the 20th of June, College bus timetables on Mondays have reverted to the Tuesday-Friday timetables. This is to ensure students can get to College for their exams. Please be aware of this when travelling to college on Mondays.

Parents’ Evening: Tuesday 12th July As usual, we will be using SchoolCloud for our Parents’ Evenings. This means you will use their web-based platform and you will need to log into their site rather than receive a phone call. We will send out instructions about how to use this brilliant platform after half term.

Lanyards: A Reminder for First Year Students Students have been reminded that wearing their Barton Peveril lanyard at all times whilst on the college site is nonnegotiable. We expect everyone to wear a lanyard because it is a safeguarding measure so we can see immediately who is part of the college community. It is rather like having a uniform at school. It is important to note without their lanyard and ID card, students cannot access buildings and finally, being responsible for their ID is preparing students for the world of work. Any student without a lanyard must visit reception to get a temporary pass.

September and the Second Year at Barton Peveril Second Year students will start the new academic year on Thursday 8th September 2021. The first two days will give students the opportunity to finalise their UCAS application forms in an extended Tutor Session on Thursday (08:45 - 12:00) and have a lesson in all of their subjects. In the following week, Second Year students will attend online lessons on Wednesday 14th, Thursday 15th, and Friday 16th September, as we help the new First Year students transition into sixth form learning (which is in keeping with the usual annual format). From Monday 19th September, all First Year and Second Year students will be on College site full time. Their timetable will in all likelihood, remain the same as they move to the Second Year, but this isn’t a guarantee. All students must check Studio/Focus before they return to College in September.

Stoneham Park Following the incident involving a Barton Peveril student, traveling from Southampton Airport Parkway to campus, we have implemented a series of measures to enhance student safety when traveling between the College and Stoneham Park Academy: • A shuttle bus service is now in operation, to and from the College, throughout the day. Click here for the full timetable. • We have hired two security guards to patrol the route between the College and Stoneham Park until half term. • After half term, staff from the College will patrol the route. • A Security Manager has been appointed, which increases the numbers in the team responsible for student safety around campus. As we have no further information from the Police regarding the original incident, these measures will help us to increase students’ safety around campus.
