Angela Denise Pope, ’86, was awarded a Ph.D. in Organization and Management with a specialization in information technology management on March 31, 2014. Sarah Hodges Stalls, ’91, married Robert Mack Stalls on October, 3, 2015. Sarah is the technology facilitator and media center manager of S.W. Snowden Elementary School in Aurora. She also works as a free-lance writer and photographer. Robert recently retired as a surveyor for the NCDOT. The couple lives in the Farm Life community of Martin County. Thomas Joyner, ’94, graduated in May 2016 from Liberty University with a Master of Science degree in Accounting. Clark Jenkins, ’96, served as chairman of the board for the 30th Annual North Carolina Seafood Festival in 2016. This is the largest festival in the state of North Carolina. Monica C. Mills, ’97, has assumed duties as the boys’ head soccer coach at Community Christian School in Wilson. A. Roy Henderson III, ’98, is currently the lead administrator at Community Christian School in Wilson. Roy began his new position in July 2016. Nicole Davis Hunt, ’02, is in her 15th year as a teacher at New Hope Elementary School in Wilson County. She and her husband have two daughters: Braeden, a third grader, and Kinsley, born on January 19, 2016. Matthew Whitley, ’02, was named top commercial banker by the CEO of Southern Bank. Matt is senior vice president and Wilson city executive for Southern Bank. Jenna Gregory Hatfield, ’06, and husband, Justin, welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Stella Isolan Hatfield, on April 12, 2016. Renee Johnson-Hedgepeth, ’06, is now a TIPS-MAPP trainer for the state of North Carolina and Halifax County.

Jaren Ronel Palmer, ’10, has been accepted into the Ph.D. project, which is a non-profit organization that identifies a population of the best and brightest potential Ph.D. candidates of color. Tiphanie Wade Wells, ’10, is a coordinator/financial social worker for Wilson County Department of Social Services. Tiphanie oversees two programs, the volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) and teen employment mentoring program (TEMP).
Courtney Elizabeth Bunch, ’08, has served as a certified athletic trainer at Currituck County High School for seven years and is teaching two sports medicine classes. She received Currituck County Schools’ First-Year Teacher of the Year Award in 2009-2010. Courtney was selected by the N.C. Coaches Association to be the athletic trainer for East West All-Star Games in Greensboro for the past six years and also served North-South All-Star basketball Games in Myrtle Beach for five years.

Catherine Danielle Okafor ’13 has been working in college counseling, and, throughout her post-college journey, it has taken her to Texas, Massachusetts, and finally to California. She works as the college access program coordinator at an educational non-profit in the city. She counsels and teaches college prep classes to high school students. Catherine never shies away from telling her students about her college experience at Barton College. Her stories include beginning the Women and Gender Studies Club, WISE Girls, writing for “The Collegiate,” and cheering on the men’s and women’s basketball teams at every home game. She also shares random facts that she remembers learning while working as a student ambassador. Catherine has too much Bulldog pride to keep it all in!
John “Allen” Corbett III, ’09, has been promoted by Southern Bank. Allen is now a vice president and commercial lender with Southern Bank in Rocky Mount. Justin Alan Packer, ’10, received his long white coat on May 20, 2016, an accomplishment he earned after 28 long months of Physician Assistant (PA) School at Eastern Virginia Medical School. After departing the Norfolk Marriott reception celebration, he could hardly believe his eyes because parked in the middle of the road was a Barton College travel bus! What a wonderful reminder of how small steps can lead to big accomplishments. While at Barton College, Justin discovered athletic training and dove in head first. After working two years in a PT clinic, he decided to apply for PA School. Seeing this bus on that special day was a
Heather McKeel Hughes, ’11, married John Taylor Hughes on July 16, 2016. She and her husband will move to Shelby in the fall of 2017, where she hopes to work in the pediatric field at Carolinas Health Care System. After graduating from Barton in 2011, Heather entered an associate’s degree program and will be graduating with her RN in May 2017.
Lindsey Harper Willis, ’13, married Samuel Willis on June 6, 2015, in Snow Hill. Lindsey has accepted a position at William Rodgers PA CPA in Morehead City and has successfully passed all four parts of the CPA exam.
