The Barnsley 10K hit the streets on 29 June 2025, with 1,847 runners lacing up, including 80 running proudly in support of Barnsley Hospital Charity!
The race, organised by the dedicated Sport & Physical Activity Team at Barnsley Council, is a huge community effort with planning starting more than a year in advance. From mapping out a safe route and closing roads, to arranging barriers, marshals, water stations, first aid, t-shirts, medals and high-tech registration systems no detail is left to chance.
For Barnsley Hospital Charity, the work begins long before race day too. The team ensures every supporter is signed up on time, kitted out with t-shirts, and ready to make the most of their fundraising efforts. It was a day of teamwork, determination and community spirit – all running towards a great cause.

Our eighty runners were a mix of loyal supporters and new faces and we send our thanks to each and every one of them.
For the charity team, early sign-up is key, giving time to train and fundraise. But when injuries strike, there’s sometimes a chance for another hero to step in.
This year, that hero was Scott McGougan, Stores Manager at Barnsley Facilities Services. With just two weeks’ notice, he laced up, hit the course and smashed his fundraising target.
Huge thanks and congratulations to Scott on an incredible effort!

Barnsley-born runner Luke Edwards made a triumphant return storming to victory in the Barnsley 10K with a blistering time of just 32 minutes, supporting us!
But for Luke who now lives in Bury, the race was about more than winning, it was about giving back. Running in support of our new Breast Care Appeal, Luke was cheered on by proud family and friends, including his parents from Monk Bretton. Luke has strong connections to the hospital with his sister, who works on the Care of the Elderly Ward.
“I’ve got strong roots here, and with my sister working at the hospital, I see how much the charity does for patients and staff,” said Luke. Thank you Luke for your support and an absolutely inspirational time and win!

We’re looking forward to our Autumn Memory Walk.
