In this edition we start with some roles that are requiring volunteers for the Christmas period. If you were thinking about helping out at Christmas, now is a great time to start looking and applying, as there is plenty of time for organisations to recruit, plan and provide any training before the big day! All most all organisations that involve volunteers will being doing lots of festive activity in the run up Christmas to support the people they work with, so find a cause you care about, and get applying!

We also have several roles to help support with in the NHS. While some of these roles may be Wakefield based, we like to show what is also on offer in our neighbouring communities We still have plenty of roles you can get involved with that are Barnsley based though!

Any of the volunteering roles in the newsletter can be applied for via our website or app unless otherwise stated

You can visit the website by clicking the link or scanning the QR code below www.barnsleycvs.org.uk/volunteering

You can also find more volunteering roles on our website too!

We created this volunteer newsletter to highlight the variety of volunteering opportunities there are in Barnsley. We wanted to showcase all there is to offer that you can do to help your community.

We first launched this newsletter in 2017 and over time, it has involved into more of a community newsletter, with volunteering still at the heart, but showcasing all kids of things that are happening in Barnsley communities Particularly during lockdown, when we didn't have many opportunities to share with you. It became a way we could communicate local support services to you all, as well as activities and local activity

You will have seen the pages grow over time, too! Our very first edition in June 2017 was only 12 pages long! Due to the length, of issues now we have recently moved over to the online platform Issuu to host the newsletter, that has allowed us to become more interactive and helps you the reader to access links easier and quicker.

However, to ensure we are producing a newsletter that people find useful, we have created a short survey for you to tell us about your experience with the newsletter This will help us to make sure the newsletter features the things you actually want to read, in a way you want to read it.

It is a short tick box survey and will take you less than 5 minutes to complete. All responses are anonymous and there is space at the end to give more detail if you prefer https://forms.gle/vsNp7nz9yNDz1rtr9

Volunteering Quality Award

The Volunteering Quality Award is specially designed for charities and community groups/projects that use volunteers.

It formally recognises that they are using best practice and high standards to create excellent volunteer experiences for anyone offering their time and skills

We would like to say another HUGE congratulations to the third organisation to achieve this award, the South Yorkshire Liaison and Diversion Service from Touchstone

You may have seen a volunteer role from the L&D service earlier in the newsletter, so may know a bit about Touchstone already

Touchstone is an inclusive employer and provides services in a way which recognises and values diversity and difference. They are committed to working towards creating a positive environment where people are accepted for the talents, skills and experiences that they bring to their organisation

One of the many services they offer includes the Liaison & Diversion (L&D) service which identify people who have mental health, learning disability, substance misuse or other vulnerabilities when they first come into contact with the criminal justice system (CJS) as suspects, defendants or offenders.

The volunteers they use all have personal lived experience of the criminal justice system, which enables the volunteers to better support and understand the client base

It has been long understood that ex offenders, as a group, have been gravely overlooked in the area of employment, career advancement and voluntary experience Touchstone through its L&D Peer Support Service, aims to redress the balance of this inequality by working solely with ex offenders, using the experience they have gained to move them forward in the criminal justice arena and offer expert support and guidance to their service users

Fundraising Activity

Jenny's Field improvements

Volunteer Quality Award holders, The Exodus Project currently have a fundraising campaign running to help with building improvements to their site at Jenny's Field

The Exodus Project are a children’s charity providing after school clubs, weekends away and day trips for children and young people in Barnsley. They work with their families and support them with food parcels and other financial, practical or emotional help.

They recently celebrated their 21st Anniversary last year and to be around for the long term, they need to improve their facilities and need some help with that So far, they have raised just over £500,000 to do improvements at Jenny's Field, with the kind support of The Tudor Trust, Garfield Weston Foundation, The Joseph rank Trust and Allchurches Trust they are halfway to their total

If you can give £5, fantastic! If you can give £10, even better! But if you can give £20 , it all comes together to bring them nearer to their target

If you are able, you can donate to their JustGiving page here https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/exodus-imrpovements

They hope the video below will inspire you to help them.
