Details Regarding the Vacant Post of Assistant Pensions Administrator
Barbados Defence Force
1. Headquarters, Barbados Defence Force is inviting suitably qualified applicants for the post of Assistant Pensions Administrator
2. The appointment of Assistant Pensions Administrator is a civilian post on the Civilian Establishment of the Barbados Defence Force. Among other qualities, confidentiality and trustworthiness shall be enduring character traits which the Assistant Pensions Administrator must demonstrate at all times
3. Academic Qualifications. Applicants should possess:
a. A CAPE certificate in Accounting and not less than three years’ experience in the field of Government Pensions; or
b. A diploma or an Associate degree in Accounting and not less than two years’ experience in the field of Government Pensions.
4. Duties and Responsibilities. The successful applicant will be responsible to the Pensions Administrator for the smooth running of the Pensions Cell, including but not limited to:
a. Preparing annual statements relative to the contributions made by each vested member;
b. Function as the Assistant Account Holder for the Pension Fund and the Pension Investment Fund;
c. Attend Pension Committee Meeting;
d. Initiating and facilitating all investments approved by the Pensions Committee;
e. Ensuring that the names of pensioners who fail to submit Life Certificate by the stipulated deadlines are not processed for monthly pensions; and
f. Monitoring the status of the budgeted funds in order to project deficits/surpluses in a timely manner.

5. Skills and Abilities. Applicants should possess:
a. Good oral and written communications skills. This includes communicating with the Pensions Administrator in a timely manner relative to any difficulty which prevents the carrying out of assigned tasks;
b. Good time management skills;
c. Ability to work unsupervised at times and to interact well with others;
d. Knowledge of computer applications with special emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and Intuit QuickBooks. Training in the BDF’s Expenditure Application will be provided
6. Salary. The salary of the Assistant Pensions Administrator is Z23 –Z17 i.e. $40,820.12 - $47,491.49 per annum
7. Appointment. The appointment is temporary, may become permanent after three years and is subject to termination by at least one month’ notice on either side.
8. Leave. Leave is granted as follows:
a. Vacation Leave The Assistant Pensions Administrator is entitled to twenty-one (21) days’ vacation leave per annum.
b. Sick Leave. Fourteen (14) days sick leave is granted per year.
