Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark:
For though from out our bourne of time and place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have cross the bar.
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures and leads me beside still waters.
He revives my soul and guides me along right pathways for his name’s sake.
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You spread a table before me in the presence of those who trouble me; you have anointed my head with oil, and my cup is running over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
He who would valiant be ‘Gainst all disaster, Let him in constancy Follow the Master.
There’s no discouragement Shall make him once relent His first avowed intent To be a pilgrim.
Who so beset him round With dismal stories, Do but themselves confoundHis strength the more is. No foes shall stay his might, Thou he with giants fight: He will make good his right To be a pilgrim.
Since, Lord, thou dost defend Us with thy Spirit, We know we at the end Shall life inherit Then fancies flee away! I’ll fear not what men say, I’ll labour night and day, To be a pilgrim.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth:
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead.
On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the Communion of Saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
PRIEST: Give rest, O Christ, to your servant with your saints. ALL: Where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.
PRIEST: You only are immortal, the creator and maker of mankind; and we are mortal, formed of the earth, and to earth shall we return. For so did you ordain when you created me, saying, “You are dust, and to dust you shall return.” All of us go down to the dust; yet even at the grave we make our song: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
ALL: Give rest, O Christ, to your servant with your saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.
PRESIDENT: Let us commend our brother John to the mercy of God our Maker and Redeemer. Deliver your servant, O Sovereign Lord Christ, from all evil, and set him free from every bond, that he may rest with all your saints in the eternal habitations; where with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God for ever and ever.
ALL: Amen
PRESIDENT: Into your hands, O merciful Saviour, we commend your servant John. Acknowledge, we beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Receive him into the arms of your mercy, in the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.
Immortal, Invisible, God only wise, In light inaccessible hid from our eyes, Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, Almighty, victorious, Thy great Name we praise.
Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might; Thy justice like mountains high soaring above Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
To all life Thou givest, to both great and small; In all life Thou livest, the true life of all; We blossom and flourish as leaves on a tree, And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee.
Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light, Thine Angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight; All laud we would render: O help us to see ‘Tis only the splendour of Light hideth Thee.
