Details Regarding the Vacant Post of Junior Electronics Technician

Barbados Defence Force

1. Headquarters, Barbados Defence Force (BDF), is inviting suitably qualified applicants from among the military personnel and civilian complement of the BDF for the post of Junior Electronics Technician (JET).

2. The appointment of JET is a civilian post on the Civilian Establishment of the BDF. Among other qualities, operational security, information confidentiality and trustworthiness shall be enduring character traits which the JET must demonstrate at all times.

3. Academic Qualifications. Applicants should possess:

a. An Associate degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering; or

b. A Diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering; and

c. Not less than ten (10) years’ experience as a Marine Electronics Technician; or

d. Not less than five (5) years’ experience in Marine Electronics Installation.

4. Duties and Responsibilities. The successful applicant will be under the command of the Commanding Officer of the Barbados Coast Guard and will be expected to:

a. Carry out the repair and maintenance of all electronic equipment, including radios, radar and navigational sensors, on the base and vessels;

b. Ensure the maintenance records are kept for all electronic equipment;

c. Inform the Senior Electronics Technician of any defect or degradation of electronic equipment that may affect the operational state of vessels;

d. Action all job cards raised and returned by the stipulated deadline;

e. Go to sea in order to oversee the functionality of the equipment;

f. Provide training and mentorship to Electronics Technicians of the Barbados Coast Guard;

g. Assist in Board of Surveys of electronic equipment and report findings and recommendations as required;

h. Assist with inventory management of electronic spares;

i. Conduct radio and equipment assessments; and

j. Any other related duties that may be assigned.

5. Salary. The salary of the JET is Z16 – Z11, i.e. $48,782.10 - $56,685.27 per annum.

6. Appointment. The appointment is full-time and is subject to termination by at least four (4) weeks’ notice on either side.

7. Leave. Leave is granted as follows:

a. Vacation Leave. The JET is entitled to thirty (30) days’ vacation leave per annum.

b. Sick Leave. Fourteen (14) days of sick leave are granted per year.

8. Method of Selection. Applicants will be expected to attend an interview with a panel as selected by HQ BDF. Additionally, applicants are to meet the BDF’s security vetting clearance processes. Interested persons are invited to submit a letter of Application addressed to: Chief of Staff, Barbados Defence Force, St. Ann’s Fort, Garrison, St. Michael, along with a Curriculum Vitae, Copies of qualifications, three (3) passport-sized photographs, two (2) testimonials and a Police Certificate of Character no later than 19 December 2025.

9. Assessment. Applicants will be assessed on the following:

a. Relevant qualifications and professional training;

b. Experience;

c. Performance at interview;

d. Integrity testing; and

e. General suitability.
