Baptist Health 2022 CASE FOR SUPPORT GLOBAL CAMPAIGN

Baptist is a family. The doctors; the nurses; the parking attendants; the people who work in the cafeteria; the staff who checked me in, who took my blood, who saw the fear etched

I still pinch myself when I realize how fortunate I am to be working in the health system where I was born.

Baptist is the place where people want to work, where physicians want to practice, and where patients want to be.

Gabriel Bo
Boulenger, President and Chief Operating Officer, Baptist Health South Florida

THE FUTURE OF BAPTIST HEALTH

In the face of the Covid 19 pandemic and a dramatic influx of new South Florida residents and their families, Baptist Health has demonstrated incredible adaptability and resilience. Amid a continuously evolving landscape, we must meet today’s greatest healthcare challenges the surging costs of treatment, technology and services; shrinking government funding and a lack of reimbursement for research; and an acute scarcity of skilled nurses and medical professionals with an ever stronger and more nimble response.

Now at a critical inflection point, we are embarking on a

$600 MILLION

campaign to fuel our vision to become the preeminent healthcare provider for the South Florida region and beyond.

The Baptist Hospital staff really made it a point to get to know us, and I felt like just that little human touch was what helped us get through the days. They were so personal with us, it was really amazing. When you’re in that situation, it’s so touch and go and everything changes minute to minute, but you could tell they really cared. They took so much pride in what they did, and they cared about the outcome for my family. It was unbelievable.

I am very excited about the robust clinical trial infrastructure we are setting up to empower our physicians to ensure that they have a highly innovative clinical trial for every patient that they will see in the clinic. Baptist Health will expand our community academic partnership with the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University with the establishment of the Cancer Health Equity Research Center (CHERC). The CHERC will address cancer health disparities, increasing the enrollment of medically underserved minority populations in clinical trials, implementing new strategies to target social determinants of health including access to health insurance, preventative services, nutritious foods and transportation – and expanding the biorepository to identify biomarkers unique to minority patients and support novel research on the effect on biomarkers of ethnicity, economic status and education.

Scientific and Community Advisory Boards comprised of community and faith based leaders, researchers, media executives and other stakeholders will lead efforts to facilitate and establish trust and engagement with clinical trials, sharing culturally appropriate material through media and other outlets and convening partners at a local, state and national level to collaborate on health literacy and awareness campaigns. This partnership between Miami Cancer Institute, Florida International University and potentially American Cancer Society will have a tremendous impact in the communities we serve here in South Florida.
