AROUND THE HOOD

Finally time to plug in Eight years of campaigning has resulted in a big win for the local community. The White Bay Cruise Terminal is finally getting shore power, but the fight is not over yet.

A $60 million shore power facility, powered by 100% renewable energy, will be built for White Bay and Glebe Island. The facility will allow ships to plug into the electricity network while at berth rather than run their engines. After eight long years, this is a huge win for everyone on the peninsula, but particularly so for a group of locals who, together with local state member Jamie Parker, didn’t take no for an answer and kept pushing for change. Balmain resident Kate Horrobin, who’s been leading the campaign says, “Australia has lagged the rest of the world for too long on cruise ship pollution regulations but finally our efforts have been vindicated.”

6

“It’s like having 2,000 cars pumping out toxic exhaust straight into homes!” The success is thanks to the persistence of the community and the enduring support of Jamie Parker. “It’s an enormous relief to know that in the not-too-distant future we won’t suffer headaches, fogginess and breathing problems, and we no longer have to fear the long-term health impacts of toxic cruise ship emissions,” says Kate.

Jamie Parker says, “Sydney has long been a dumping ground for the cruising industry’s oldest and dirtiest ships, vessels that wouldn’t even be allowed to enter most ports in the northern hemisphere. These cruise ships, as big as a block of flats, run their engines 24/7 while at port. However, this announcement has catapulted Sydney into being a worldleader exhibiting environmental best practice.” The new power facility will be the first of its kind in Australia and is scheduled to open in 2024. For residents living nearby, that’s another two years of emissions and noise pollution.

“0.1% is still 100 times the level of sulphur permitted in Australian diesel cars but at least this change would bring us inline with the rest of the world.”

Kate says, “Our work isn’t quite done. We’ve just had the P&O Pacific Explorer berthed for 30 nights over a six-week period pumping out toxic emissions right next to our homes. Cruise ships can still enter Sydney Harbour burning fuel that has 500 times the level of sulphur permitted in Australian diesel cars!” Current regulations require cruise ships to switch to 0.1% sulphur fuel within an hour of berthing and they can’t switch back until an hour before they leave. Locals have been calling on the Federal Government to mandate for this switch to be made before ships enter Sydney Harbour. The details around which berths will have shore power is yet to be announced. “It’s unclear whether White Bay 4 will have access to power. The Pacific Explorer has been berthed at WB4 as part of their 30-night stay and as those living close to that wharf will attest, the impacts of the air and noise emissions have been devastating. This berth must be included in the shore power roll-out given it’s used for overnight stays which are the most impactful to the community”, says Kate.

Community win!

Shore power coming to White Bay After almost a decade living with toxic pollution from the White Bay Cruise Terminal we have won our campaign for shore to ship power. Thank you to every resident who joined our campaign. Your long-standing support made this remarkable win possible.

LOCAL LEGENDS

Five minutes over coffee Darling sat down for a coffee with Deb, owner of Hair Angel to talk about everything from community to self-care. Deb is a strong advocate for all local businesses and is often posting shout-outs on social media on behalf of her business peers.

Tell us a bit about yourself I’m an Irish native and ex-cabin crew for Virgin Atlantic, so I’ve travelled to many cities around the world. When I arrived in Balmain 15 years ago to visit family, I fell in love with the village and never left. I opened Hair Angel in 2008. It’s a hairdressing ‘ladies lounge’ for over 18’s only, where women can enjoy a wine while being pampered and beautified. Why here? Lots of expats have settled here. It’s one of the best places you can live - so accessible and close to the city and yet emanating that welcoming village feel. My brother lives here too, as does my mum, so it’s home to me now. Proudest moment? Getting my Australian passport. What’s changed in the area since you arrived 15 years ago? It’s much more family oriented than it used to be. Balmain is more gentrified now but still has a good mix of offerings for both families and singles. One thing that has stayed the same The heart of Balmain. One piece of unsolicited advice you would offer locals Coming from a small business perspective, it’s to support your local stores. This is more important than ever since the pandemic. Prices are increasing everywhere, and the stores won’t survive if we don’t get out there. I encourage everyone to get off their computers, cut down on online shopping, and go and support the local businesses instead. Top self-care tip Come and get your hair done! It’s your crowning glory and the best self-care for women. Fave peninsula spot The little park by the East Balmain ferry wharf. Whenever I go there, I realise how lucky we are to live in this gorgeous village with the harbour at our doorstep. How do you like your coffee? Bertoni-ized By Mina Iacono

Let’s talk real estate

Cindy Kennedy McGrath

With the election behind us, real estate is firmly in the minds and on the lips of many people. Australian residential property prices rose 23.7% through 2021, surging at the fastest annual pace on record. Darling talks to Cindy Kennedy of McGrath Balmain about what’s happening in our local market and why there’s an increased attendance at open homes.

More buyers are showing interest in our area Many people that stopped looking two years ago are back in the market. Investors are definitely back, and they’re looking to buy in areas where people want to live. With our borders now open, ex-pats will be moving back to rent or buy. Michael Yardney’s property update gives great insights into people wanting to buy within 20 minutes from where they work. He mentions that Australia has a business plan to increase population to 40 million in the next 30 years, that’s more than 50%!

“People want to live here for the convenience and the livability our area offers, which will be even more pronounced as workers return to CBD offices.” Being so close to the city and with major infrastructure such as the new metro station in White Bay, the Bays Precinct

plan, Westconnex, the new parkland and the Western Harbour Tunnel, it stands to reason Rozelle, Balmain, Lilyfield, Annandale, and Glebe make for very smart buying right now. Look at the huge growth Haberfield has had following the completion of the Westconnex in that area. While the housing market has softened slightly, which it needed to do, the continued demand for housing in our area remains obvious. What impact will rising interest rates have? We’ve noticed people are reducing their budgets as they understand interest rates are likely to rise further after May’s 0.25% increase, with some buyers looking to buy now so they can fix their interest rate. People are also being extremely cautious when buying and taking more care to understand what work may need to be done to a property after purchasing. Presenting a property to a high standard is very important in this market. While there are likely to be multiple rate rises this year,

Proudly brought to you by 12

we have to remember that the current rates are well below anything we’ve seen in the past. As Owen Wilson from REA Group recently told the AFR, “The interest rates are coming off very low settings and even if all the predicted rate rises come through, it really only gets us back to where we were pre-pandemic.” “Anyone buying or selling at the moment is doing so with an expectation that these rate rises are coming, and yet, we’re still seeing really healthy levels of listings and transactions,” he said. Wilson also points out that the banks have been using 5% as their serviceability interest rate, so anyone who’s borrowed in the past couple of years should be able to service interest rates up to 5% based on bank calculations. The rental market turnaround continues The rental market has had a dramatic turnaround from the last two years. Jade O’Rourke from the McGrath property management department said “With record low vacancy rates across Sydney, renters are routinely offering abovemarket rents and months of rent in advance to secure a property. We’re at the point where we no longer need to advertise rental properties as we have a large percentage of potential tenants we can lease properties to off market.” Rental prices for houses in Sydney have climbed by 19.1% in the last year.

To renovate or not Due to the huge increase in renovation costs and the lengthy delays associated with trades and supplies, many people looking to purchase are homeowners who had previously been planning to renovate. These buyers are realising the easier path is to purchase a home already built to their current lifestyle requirements. As a result, we’re seeing a strong demand for welldesigned and recently renovated homes, while vendors of homes in need of immediate renovation are having to adjust expectations to meet the market. Stock levels likely to stay low Winter is upon us which means the amount of property coming on the

market will likely remain low until spring. Supply and demand will mean prices will remain reasonably consistent. The prestige property sector is maintaining value better than the mainstream market, perhaps because buyer decisions are less influenced by rising interest rates.

“We put our heart and soul into achieving the best possible results and will give solid advice, including project managing the trades, to ensure the best presentation to maximise the price for our clients,” says Cindy

Speak to Cindy and Scott about how their strategy may work best for you or if you would like them to help you find your dream home. Having worked in both rising and falling markets, the advice they give clients is designed to achieve the best result in any market, with a focus on presentation, marketing, price and timing. BOOKS

Literary locals

The peninsula is home to several creatives, including authors. Maybe it’s a legacy of the Sydney Push days, or maybe it’s because Balmain Rozelle is just an inspiring place to live. Darling speaks to four local writers to learn more.

Ned Manning Author

Jess Kitching Author

Why did you become an author? I always said if I could sing, I’d be in a band, but I can’t so I’m not. I’m an actor as well but acting relies on being asked. I love writing because it’s the way I express myself. I write what I want to write about, and I love the process of disappearing into another world.

Why did you become an author? I’ve always wanted to be an author and after moving to Australia, I thought I’d chase that dream. I have a facial birthmark and talking about bullying, body image and selfacceptance are things I’m passionate about. Some of my own experiences were the inspiration for my book.

Where do you go for inspiration? I love walking around Balmain. Mort Bay in the evening, as the sun is setting, is inspirational. Do you have a favourite place to work? Balmain Library. A lot of my latest book Painting the Light was written there. Why do you think there are so many authors in the Balmain Rozelle area? I guess it’s a hangover from the 60’s and 70’s when many bohemians, writers, artists, actors, and musos moved into Balmain. It has become an enclave of creativity possibly because there’s no through traffic. For me, it’s always been like a country town. A community where everyone knows everyone. At least it was. Tell us a bit about your latest book Painting the Light is a book set pre, during and post WW2. A historical romance about two young Australians whose experience in the war makes them determined to create a better, more equitable society.

16

Where do you go for inspiration? Balmain is such a beautiful spot that everywhere is inspiring, but I find that anywhere by the water is a great place to go for calmness and creativity. Do you have a favourite place to work? I usually write at home, but I always start my day with a drink from Contessa. And I love to finish a long day of writing at Forli. Their pastas are amazing! Why do you think there are so many authors in the Balmain Rozelle area? Probably because it’s such a great place to live with such a vibrant creative community. Tell us a bit about your latest book The Girl She Was Before is a psychological thriller that looks at the legacy of a trauma like bullying and the impact of the social pressure on women to be ‘perfect’.

Matthew Spencer Author

Wendy Milton Author

Why did you become an author? I was a newspaper journalist for 20 years and got sick of it and quit the industry. I have a degree in literature from Sydney University so writing a novel seemed a logical progression and four years later - here it is.

Why did you become an author? As a child, adults would ask me what I wanted to do when I grew up. I would tell them I wanted to write children’s books and illustrate them. I didn’t get around to writing until late middle age, when my retirement as an English teacher gave me time to devote myself. I did however discover that I lacked the ability to illustrate and instead engaged a professional illustrator. My childhood dream of writing children’s books came, I believe, from a love of reading. Encouraging children to love books is so important and should begin, I feel, long before a child learns to read.

Do you have a favourite place to work? I work at home, but I like Euforia in the morning, and The East Village and The London later in the day. Why do you think there are so many authors in the Balmain Rozelle area? I think it’s a little quirk of history. A lot of writers piled into Birchgrove in the 70’s as the peninsula began to gentrify. Lacking imagination, they clustered, and that has continued over the years. Are any of your books set locally? One of the main characters of my novel Black River lives in Datchett Street in Balmain East. The other lives in Rozelle. One is a journalist, and the other is a homicide detective. The action of the book takes place towards Gladesville and North Parramatta, but they drink in The Bald Rock, The Commercial (a nod to the past) and The Three Weeds. Tell us a bit about your latest book Black River is a police procedural and a mystery. Two women have been killed in separate houses a month apart and a month later, another body turns up on the campus of a large boys’ boarding school. A journalist who went to the school 30 years ago is roped in to help with the investigation.

Winter 2022

Where do you go for inspiration? I don’t go anywhere for inspiration. I don’t believe there’s a place where one can go to acquire it. If there were such a place it would be very crowded. Do you have a favourite place to work? I work from home. I couldn’t work in a café because I’d eat too much cake! Are any of your books set locally? My first book, The Doolally Kid, was set in England but I was asked by my then publisher, Lothian, to change this to Australia. Since then all my books have been set in Australia. I don’t, however, use local, recognisable settings. Tell us a bit about your latest book My most recent book, Taking Stock, is about a boy called Neil whose Uncle Rex loves old things and ‘lives in the past’. But does Neil’s Uncle Rex live in the past literally? Where does the stock in his bric-a-brac shop come from? And why is the shop nearly always shut?

Who’s cooking tonight? Sparked by lockdowns, we’ve seen an explosion of ready-made meals. After exhausting every recipe in the repertoire and perfecting the sourdough, families were reeling for an alternative dining experience. Darling discovers the best ready-made dinners on the peninsula. FRIDAY EVERY DAY! Madre began where a lot of good ideas bloom - with a mum looking to ignite a passion business (of the culinary kind in this case). While juggling full time work and family, founder Rebecca would give herself ‘a night off’ from cooking at the end of each week, so her Friday nights would involve getting takeaway or heading to the pub for dinner. When lockdown hit, Rebecca set her energies to creating Madre to give other families a Friday night experience - a delicious meal that you can serve to your family without having to cook. All meals are ‘family friendly’ and suitable for the fussiest of eaters. Madre has fresh and frozen meal options including massaman beef curry and roasted turmeric cauliflower. For something different, try the soft pillows of ricotta dumplings served in tomato cream and vodka sauce! STEAMING HOT Lilyfield local Kathy grew up with delicious Asian food and developed a love for cooking from her Chinese Aunty Phyl. Kathy missed having a well-stocked Asian grocery store on the peninsula, so she created her own.

20

Wong She & Co was the name of the first Asian grocer in Wellington, New Zealand, established in 1883 and Kathy’s father grew up in a flat above the shop. It was only fitting that this new Asian food provedore would take the same name. Among the products on offer are Wong She & Co’s pork and water chestnut or vegetarian dumplings. If you need a dipping sauce to complement

your dumplings, try the homemade crunchy chilli oil or black bean sauce. You may have to put a little bit of effort in, but from the time you turn on the steamer until dinner is on the table - it’s less than 10 minutes! ONE PAN WONDERS There’s no denying the passion behind chef Laura’s work, dancing the samba while doing what she loves

best - cooking. The owner of Our Farm Kitchen had to relearn how to eat after being diagnosed with coeliac disease. With a goal to promote a healthy lifestyle through homemade food, Laura serves up a menu of certified organic, sustainable and gluten free dishes, made with the freshest seasonal produce.

Park play

1

Spaniel, Spoodle, or Staffy – whatever the breed, they all need walking. Darling shares the best places for your dog to run free.

Mort Bay Park, Birchgrove

Illoura Reserve, Balmain East

With sweeping Harbour Bridge views, this is the ultimate Sydney doggo experience. The grassed area between the playground and Peacock Point is off leash all day. If your dog loves a swim, head to the small beach at Peacock Point. 3

Birchgrove Park, Birchgrove

The entire area surrounding Birchgrove Oval is off leash, and dogs of all sizes and breeds come here to play. Nearby Snail’s Bay beach is great for swimming and offers pretty harbour views. 4

Propeller Park, Balmain East

Located near the Colgate Building, this park offers great views and opportunities to explore. On a hot day the little beach adjacent to the park is perfect for water play. Come 5pm the park turns into Oodle central. 5

Bridgewater Park, Rozelle

The section of Bridgewater Park between the bay and the sporting ground is always available for off leash exercise. With multiple green areas to choose from there’s plenty of space to run around or chase a ball. The view overlooking Iron Cove Bridge isn’t bad either. 6

King George Park, Rozelle

The sporting ground areas of King George Park are available for off leash play unless organised sporting games, training or events are taking place. Dogs must always be on a leash in the surrounding parkland, including the Bay Run. 7

Ewenton Park, Balmain

This quiet park is great for dogs. They can play off leash between 4pm and 10am during non daylight saving time, and 5pm and 10am during daylight saving time, weekends and public holidays. The best time to visit is in the late afternoon as the sun sets, reflecting off the glass towers at Barangaroo.

AROUND THE HOOD

From Indonesia with love Separated from their son and daughter in Australia due to COVID-19, Susan and Johnny took a leap of faith and moved from Indonesia to set up shop in Balmain. “Moving to Australia was a huge decision but being close to our children and starting Two Baskets has been a blessing for us”, says Susan. The couple opened their shop in March, just in time for their 25th wedding anniversary. “The shop hasn’t just brought us closer as a family, it’s also given us a unique opportunity to bring a piece of Indonesia to Australia.” Most of what you see in-store is handmade and personally sourced by Susan and Johnny. Susan also designs many of the items including the very popular bags made from recycled plastic. “We source our products from villages all over Indonesia. Most of the items are made by hand, not in a factory, but by craftspersons in their homes. We help these makers and designers by selling their items here in Australia.”

WELLNESS

Does my child need a hearing test?

If you’ve ever been concerned about your child’s hearing, you’re not alone. Particularly during winter, hearing loss is not an uncommon side effect in children following an upper respiratory tract infection or ear infection.

“Having a hearing check is usually a fun, positive and painless experience for young children,” says Dr Annemarie Lindner AuD. Ear infections can cause a temporary hearing loss and affects an estimated 80% of children before the age of four. Most infections get better quickly and are not

usually serious, however, an undetected mild hearing loss in children can cause problems with speech, language, learning, and social skills. Hearing loss or simply not paying attention? Dr Annemarie Lindner AuD says “It isn’t always easy to decipher between whether a child is having trouble hearing or whether it is more about attention.” A short 30-minute appointment will tell you immediately whether a hearing loss is present or not.

WELLNESS

Why do I keep getting injured? Overuse injuries are caused by repetitive trauma on the joint or muscle. And the more active you are, the more prone you are to these injuries, especially as you get older. Brendan, Clinical Director and Principal Physiotherapist at Redo Health, explains that getting your injury assessed is important. “By diagnosing the injury, we can identify the appropriate treatment. You may need a massage or exercises to help restore your mobility and rebuild strength.” Once the pain subsides it’s tempting to go back to your old exercise habits, but Brendan says that pacing yourself is key to staying injury free. “The pain may be gone, but this doesn’t mean you’re moving as well as you did before your injury. The human body is good at compensating, but after a certain point your body loses its options for good movement and the injury will return.”

If you suffer from recurring episodes of pain, you perhaps haven’t fully restored your mobility and strength. This is where a Physiotherapist can help repair your body by refining your movement. REDO HEALTH 73 Mullens St, Balmain redohealth.com.au

LOCAL LEGENDS

Food, glorious food Having food on the table and people that care is a basic need that some might take for granted. But what happens when these needs aren’t met? Darling speaks to the team at Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre.

The Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre empowers connections and wellbeing within our community. For them, it’s that simple. A huge part of what they do is supporting people with daily challenges - and providing food is a critical service they provide to the community. Sometimes it’s the little things that can make a big difference to someone’s day - like a fresh loaf of bread or some tasty, nourishing food. Thanks to their army of amazing volunteers, and the support of some fantastic local businesses and organisations, Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre are able to run a Pop-

“Absolutely anyone in our local community is welcome to put their hand up for a hot meal or come along to our hub, take what you need and enjoy a cup of coffee and a chat with our team,” says Steven, CEO of Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre

Up Pantry, provide weekly meal deliveries and host the famous neighbourhood Breadnesday! These services are available to all members of the community, whether they need something extra to get through the week, or want an excuse to get out and meet more people in the area - this is a community, so whatever someone’s reason or need is, Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre has made them available.

POP-UP PANTRY What started as a social, local neighbourhood ‘market’ with a difference, has now grown into a service where anyone is welcome to help themselves to fresh fruit and vegetables, groceries and dry food staples. Grab a box or bag, browse the stalls and take what you need - no questions asked and no payment required. Pop-Up Pantry is available every second Friday from 12:30pm - 2.00pm.

“Our goal is to create a space that gives dignity back to providing food relief for people who may be having a rough time. No judgement, just positive human connection and a way to reconnect our local community”, says Marco, Social Enterprise Manager BREADNESDAY Every Wednesday, without fail, the centre’s ‘Breadnesday’ stall is out the front. Pick up a loaf of fresh bread from 10am - 12pm. Sometimes there are even some groceries or fresh herbs as a little something extra to brighten up your day.

Want to join an amazing team of volunteers? Whether you can cook some meals, pack up food hampers, help with admin or deliver meals and smiles to our community, your support would be invaluable. Just fill in the form on the 20 for 1 website, or get in touch with the Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre team.

Winter 2022

And when they say fresh bread, they mean it! The wonderful Gift of Bread, Paddy the Baker and Victoire, donate their tasty, handmade bread every week. MEAL DELIVERY - 20 FOR 1 Every week, 20 for 1, in partnership with Vinnies Rozelle, delivers over 280 meals. Every day, nutritious meals, food hampers and snacks are packed and delivered by a group of legendary volunteers to members of the community in need of kindness and support.

20 for 1 volunteer Jayne says, “My partner and I joined as volunteers because we wanted to give back to the community. Being part of the meal prep team gives us the flexibility to support as and when we can, and it’s a fun activity to do together. It’s such a great group, and the team makes it seamless and easy to get involved.” These meal deliveries wouldn’t be possible without the support of many organisations. Restaurants, cafes and home cooks make the delicious meals while OzHarvest and local businesses supply food for the hampers. Additional items are bought and subsidised by the Food Bank. Would a hot meal delivered to you every week make a positive difference? Contact the Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre today to get on the list.

Tiny charity achieves big things

GUNAWIRRA 19A Quirk St, Rozelle gunawirra.org.au

Located in Rozelle, Gunawirra house provides services to vulnerable and disadvantaged people both locally and in rural communities. With culture at the heart of everything they do, this charity delivers a unique method of healing by integrating culture and traditional therapies. Gunawirra was formed in 2008 in a karawee karawee, a gathering of concerned people. Aboriginal representatives and elders had identified the need for an early intervention, multidisciplinary approach that empowered Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities to intervene in their own lives.

Their programs focus on healing intergenerational trauma and grief through the influence of cultural identity, knowledge, and creativity.

Gunawirra focuses on supporting child development in the first five years of life and aims to break the cycle of hardship.

Clinic On Country This newest program addresses lack of available therapeutic services across rural and remote NSW by

working within preschools and communities. The provision of these services assists the little ones with their communication difficulties, motor and cognitive abilities and ensures school readiness is on-par with their peers. Young Aboriginal Mothers Program (YAMP) Gunawirra takes pride in providing a culturally safe place for mothers and their children to grow, experience and learn. The program is run by professionals who aim to assist women and their children in a holistic way, and a cultural elder advises on and facilitates cultural activities for both mothers and children. Five big ideas program The program assists preschoolers in learning about personal hygiene, nutrition,

basic health care, healing and resilience, identity and culture. Every year, Gunawirra provides children from rural and remote preschools with new school bags filled with hygiene essentials, activity books and much more. At Christmas each child receives three books and a toy. For many of these children this may be the only toy they receive each year - the smile on the children’s faces is a joy to behold. Journey to learning Working alongside some inspiring elders, community days are held within the preschools to connect children with their Aboriginal cultural heritage and knowledge. The program also utilises a culture box and the training allows educators to confidently include culturally appropriate activities in the classroom and

encourage children to develop creativity in their thinking. Teacher training Gunawirra provides a clinical professional to facilitate regular private sessions for preschool educators. These sessions give educators a space to confide and support each other and develop skills to better support children who have experienced trauma. This work assists educators to understand the powerful relationship between culture, identity, and healing.

Reset your relationship with your dog Darling meets Pushpa Prem from Bark Busters Inner West Sydney to discuss all things dogs and training. Pushpa shares her tips when preparing for the arrival of a baby and tips on what to do when bringing a puppy or dog home. What are your top tips when bringing a puppy or dog home? • Address behaviours such as barking, jumping, chewing, and nipping early on, before they become problematic. • Set boundaries for both children and dogs because often children treat a new puppy like a toy. • Give your dog a safe space where they can retreat. Just like us they need a place in the home to relax. • Everyone needs to know the rules and learn how to be consistent when training the family dog. • Keep an eye on behaviours changing over time as children and dogs grow. How to prepare for the arrival of a baby • Look at creating ‘no go’ zones for your dog. Set rules and boundaries and stick to them.

• Buy a doll that looks and sounds like a baby and carry it in your arms. This will help you to see and assess how your dog is reacting to you and ‘baby’. • Start being ‘baby and dog’ aware as you’ll need to be able to watch both. Any distractions may become a safety issue. Why do you offer dog training in the home? Bark Busters is a unique system developed and operating in Australia for 33 years. In-home dog training provides the ideal environment for working on your relationship with your dog because this is where many behavioural issues occur. In most cases, immediate results are achieved in the first hour or two. We use simple dog friendly methods including body language and voice control. We know our system works which is why we give a written life of the dog guarantee.

How to choose a dog trainer that suits you and your family? • Ask them about their methodology and look for long term results, not short-term fixes. • Give them a call first and see if you are a good match. You need to feel comfortable asking questions. • Check they understand your household dynamics and have experience with your current situation. • Choose a local trainer so they’re easily accessible when you need them. • Do your research! Read reviews and ask the trainer for examples of their work or case studies. BARK BUSTERS INNER WEST SYDNEY 1800 067 710 barkbusters.com.au/dog_ trainers/pushpa-prem
