Obesity, diabetes and heart disease became death sentences for too many people battling Covid. While genetics predispose some to these illnesses, many can be managed or eradicated by lifestyle changes. I’d like to focus on making healthy choices while still enjoying the bad-for-you good stuff in moderation.

I don’t know about you, but 2020 offered far too little of either of these to me. I was so consumed with my mom’s illness and then with surviving the grief of her loss and the anxiety of the pandemic and the sorrow of so many national news stories that I took little time for myself. This year, I hope to explore creative and personal endeavors that help me rediscover myself and discover new outlets for personal expression.

On that note, I encourage you to read our COVID-19 Resource Guide, which provides resources for food, business, community and more. The ever-changing nature of this crisis necessitates that I mention that these resources may or may not be available to you by the time you read this issue. I hope it will provide a place to start, some ideas or some inspiration either way.

We explore some fun and quirky trends that can add a touch of personality to your celebration, a few unique ways to make your grand exit unforgettable, and the latest trends in bridal wear hitting the aisle this season.
You may also notice that we have some nonpandemic related stories in this issue. We made the call to include already planned articles that might still be helpful, relevant or enjoyable for our readers. We hope you find them useful.

We also go behind the scenes with local wedding planners to see how wedding planning and collaboration can come together perfectly to create dream weddings that showcase each couple’s unique personalities.
While many people made glorious headway on home improvement and personal projects in 2020, I did not. I did not organize anything. I did not fix anything. I did not learn a language or a new skill. Nothing. But that’s ok, too. I’m still here. That’s an accomplishment. However, in 2021, I’d like to lighten my load and empty my house of much of the clutter and unnecessary junk that fills it. It’s time to make room for something new.
All of this, plus a few DIY pet treat recipes and some good news from the Florida legislature regarding protection for pets in abusive situations.
And of course, no weddings issue would be complete without our comprehensive local venue guide and the ultimate wedding directory—your go-to resource for finding the perfect venues and vendors to bring your vision to life.
As for us, Pensacola Magazine has been published under one title or another for more than 40 years. We have no plans on changing that. We will continue to publish and to bring you all the information we can for as long as we can. Please reach out to us with story ideas, inspiration or just a quick hello. We are all working from home and we are missing our water cooler conversations.
In this issue, we’ve covered all of these topics and more to help readers shift their own focus in 2021. We hope you enjoy. Here’s to your health!
Whether you're newly engaged or in the middle of planning, we hope this issue sparks inspiration and excitement for your own special day. Happy planning!
So, turn off the news, put down your phone and enjoy these heartwarming tales and adorable of photos of local animals and the folks who care for them. When you’re done, give your kitty a little catnip and throw your dog a bone. It’s these simple pleasures that will keep us all sane.

Weddings 2025
COVER CONTEST WINNER
Hira Mushtaq and Caleb Summers
Wedding Date: February 13, 2025
Photography: PV Cobia
When and how did you meet?
Caleb and I met online in June 2024, and from our very first conversation, we knew we had found something special. It was effortless—our connection felt like fate, as if our souls had been waiting to find each other.
How did you get engaged?
Our engagement was a heartfelt blend of love and tradition. Both families came together, and my parents asked if I wanted to marry Caleb. Before that, Caleb had already taken the traditional step of asking my father for my hand, promising to always love and cherish me. It was simple yet deeply meaningful, setting the perfect foundation for our forever.
Where did you get married?
We chose Supposey Warehouse & Gardens, an enchanting venue filled with lush greenery and a romantic ambiance. From the twinkling lights to the breathtaking floral arrangements, every detail made it feel like you were stepping into a fairytale. Chloe and her team were nothing short of incredible, making the planning process seamless and stress-free.
What was the theme and style of your wedding?
Our wedding was a dreamlike fusion of two cultures, where modern elegance met timeless traditions. The colors—sage green, blush and abundant greenery—created a soft, ethereal garden atmosphere. I wore a traditional Pakistani bridal dress, symbolizing my heritage, while Caleb complemented me in an ivory suit with a sage green floral tie, perfectly balancing tradition and modern charm.
Butterflies have always been a special symbol in our love story. Before we met, one fluttered around me, lingering as if carrying a message. At the same time, Caleb had a similar experience.
When I later read about the symbolism of butterflies—new beginnings, transformation and soul connections—I knew it was a sign. To honor that, we incorporated delicate butterfly details into our wedding cake, a subtle yet deeply personal touch.
What was your favorite aspect of the wedding?
The most magical moment was stepping into a ballroom filled with love, joy and diversity. Ever since I was 19, I dreamed of a wedding that brought people from all backgrounds together, and that vision became reality. Seeing the room filled with warmth, laughter and celebration was a moment I will cherish forever.

Megan Crooke and Brooks Steber
Wedding Date: April 27, 2024
Photographer: Aislinn Kate Weddings
When and how did you meet?
We met during our freshman year at Catholic High School, although I think we knew of each other before then.
How did you get engaged?
He proposed to me outside of Jackson’s Steakhouse. I think there were a few other attempts to do it on the beach behind his parents house, but it kept getting pushed back because the ring wasn’t ready. He finally said “screw it” and did it after we had dinner at Jackson’s. There was a little bit of a symbolism to it because we were at Jackson’s a couple years prior when I told him I was moving home from Atlanta (for him, lol) and he said that night is when we knew he was going to marry me.
Where did you get married?
What was the theme and style of your wedding?
I did a lot of the blue and white chinoiserie vases and jars. I wanted it to be classic black and white with touches of blue and light blue throughout. Brooks, my mom and I, with the help of a few others, hung all of the white paper lanterns in the tent. It was a huge task to take on just two days before the wedding, but it was worth it in the end. I spent the entire year finding decor, vases, etc., and collecting things that would ultimately come together to create the perfect setting I envisioned. What was your favorite aspect of your wedding?
I loved all of it, but the reception was definitely the most fun. It was great because all the “hard stuff” was over and I could finally relax, have a drink and dance with my friends.
We got married at Christ Church, which is where I basically grew up going to church (because I went to Episcopal Day School). Our reception was in the backyard of my childhood home.

When and how did you meet?
We met in 1993 during our freshman year of high school. We were both in the International Baccalaureate Program.
How did you get engaged?
Marcus and Nadia, just two kids from Fort Lauderdale, didn’t know what the future held for them. Both walked the halls of Boyd Anderson High School and attended the University of Florida (UF). While at UF, Marcus said he expressed his interest in Nadia, but she doesn’t remember!
Years later, an Instagram challenge brought them back together. Marcus dropped a high school graduation picture and a few others into Nadia’s inbox. That sparked the beginning of a new friendship.
Text messages and phone calls became their everyday routine. Marcus even stayed on the phone several times while Nadia got her “million dollar” nails done (inside

Where did you go for your honeymoon?
We went to Italy! Specifically Lake Como, Florence and Ischia. It was absolutely beautiful and so much fun to explore. It was truly a trip of a lifetime! The hotels we stayed at were truly amazing. Almost like what you see in a magazine….the whole experience felt like a scene in White Lotus!
What advice do you have for newly engaged couples to help ensure a spectacular wedding day?
Try not to let planning every detail of your wedding consume your life! I couldn’t sleep many nights, and it was usually over some small detail that no one would ever notice. Just have fun and soak in all the parties with friends and family before it’s over.
joke). Phone conversations finally led to the two meeting at Brick & Spoon for their first lunch date. Marcus was looking good in his suit and smelling nice, but Nadia had to keep her cool. That second first meeting is what they fondly call their 2.0.
Their friendship continued to grow and bloomed into a beautiful relationship. As time went on, the two enjoyed the ordinary and extraordinary with each other. Then on a random Wednesday, Marcus asked Nadia to lunch at Brick & Spoon. That random Wednesday quickly became a very important date. On July 12, 2023, Marcus asked Nadia to be his wife.
Where did you get married?
We got married at Supposey Warehouse & Gardens.
What was the theme and style of your wedding?
The theme was #Foxxinlove. The colors were purple, dusk and champagne.
Special details included a wedding magazine, a wedding logo and custom T-shirts with the wedding logo for all guests. We also hosted a charter bus day trip to Mobile, Alabama for all of our guests to celebrate Mardi Gras.

Breaking Tradition
Modern Wedding Trends Reshaping the Norm
By Nicole Willis
As one of the most memorable events of our lives, weddings are often steeped in cultural and personal traditions. From the significance of certain colors and flowers to the symbolism behind rituals and ceremonies, every detail carries a special meaning. However, many couples today are choosing to personalize their big day by ditching the age-old traditions and incorporating unique elements or rituals that express their individuality. From micro-weddings and flower grandmas to dessert spreads instead of a wedding cake, couples are breaking traditions in 2025 with fresh and creative wedding trends. Whether you want a totally unique wedding or are just looking for ways to incorporate some personal flair, here are some of our favorite wedding trends that are breaking tradition.
Including the Pets
Pets are important members of the family, and it can be depressing to leave them at home, especially when celebrating such an important day. Many couples are including their pets by replacing the traditional ring bearer role—typically involving a young male—with their fur babies as the bearers instead. Well-mannered cats and dogs can often be seen walking down the aisle holding the rings. Whether on a leash, in a stroller or walking down the aisle off-leash, furry friends are becoming the star of the ceremony. Many couples also dress up their fur baby for the occasion by putting them in a tuxedo, dress or other custom attire. Including pets on the big day is a sweet and memorable personal touch. If you plan on embracing this trend, remember to have a trusted pet handler on deck for the ceremony and reception.
Mismatched Bridesmaid Dresses
When choosing bridesmaid dresses, many of today’s brides are breaking tradition in favor of comfort and style. Mismatched bridesmaid dresses are on the rise, as brides are allowing bridesmaids to pick out the shape of dress that suits them and their body type. Typically, a bride will pick out a color or color scheme from a specific retailer. Then, the bridesmaids will browse through the selection of different dress styles that are available in the bride’s selected color scheme. The bridesmaids will be able to try out different dress fits and cuts to find something that suits their personal taste and body type. Mismatched bridesmaids’ dresses allow everyone to feel comfortable and confident, while still having an overall cohesive look with complementing colors.
Micro-Weddings
With the costs of just about everything rising in the past few years, many couples are turning to micro-weddings as an affordable option to celebrate their special day. Microweddings allow couples to celebrate with their closest friends and family without breaking the bank. Typically hosting no more than around 50 guests, these intimate gatherings eliminate the guilty thoughts that sometimes come with sending wedding invitations; with a limited number of guests, there’s no pressure to invite your parents’ friend that you’ve never even met! The small guest list also ensures that the couple can spend ample quality time with each guest. Micro-weddings often include many of the characteristics of traditional weddings, just on a much smaller scale. Couples hosting these gatherings often still include traditional elements like dinner, dancing and a beautiful ceremony.
Flower Grandmas
Couples are putting a unique and memorable spin on the flower girl tradition; rather than following the tradition of having a young girl scatter petals down the aisle, some couples are asking their grandmothers to pick up a basket of petals and take on this cherished role. The flower grandma trend is gaining popularity as a meaningful way to include older loved ones as part of the wedding party. Flower grandmas are great for couples who want to honor a special relationship with a grandparent while also adding a personal touch to this age-old tradition.
Ditching the Cake
Let them eat cake! Or cupcakes, cookies, ice cream… whatever their heart desires. Today, many couples are ditching the tradition of having a large, multi-tiered wedding cake in the name of variety. Couples looking to incorporate a more diverse variety of sweets are ditching the cake for full-blown dessert tables. Opting for a variety of desserts can often be cheaper than having one large cake and allows guests to indulge in more than one type of sweet treat. Dessert tables are also completely customizable, allowing couples to include a personal touch by offering a few of their favorite desserts while also providing crowd favorites and even options for those with dietary restrictions. Dessert tables can feature various kinds of cakes, cupcakes and handheld sweets, or customizable treats like brownies and ice cream with a slew of toppings. Tiered trays of cupcakes, king cakes and doughnuts are having a moment with this sweet trend.
Creative Takes on the Traditional Seating Chart
Whether you’re inviting 50 guests or 500 guests, seating charts are extremely helpful at weddings. Seating charts eliminate the awkward guesswork of finding a seat and prevent chaos or delays. Traditionally, seating is handled by displaying a simple chart near the entrance or name placeholders at each seat. Though helpful, traditional seating charts and placeholders can sometimes be confusing for guests, especially if they have to walk around each table to locate their name card. Today, couples are opting for more creative solutions by combining seating charts with favors, like custom motel-style keychains engraved with guests’ names and table numbers or springthemed seed packets with each guest’s name and table number. Other unique options include displaying seating charts on the couple’s favorite vinyl records or, for smaller weddings, surrounding each table number with memorable photos of the couple with each guest. No matter how it is personalized, a seating chart makes a great display piece that reflects the couple’s style while guiding guests smoothly to their seats.

Sweet Send-Offs
By Chloe Cadenhead
The tradition of the wedding send-off goes back thousands of years, with roots dating back to ancient Roman traditions where guests would throw wheat, oats and rice to symbolize prosperity and fertility for the new couple. Today, many newlyweds are straying from tossing grains and instead leaning towards more unique and eyecatching photo ops for their big exit. A unique wedding send-off serves as the cherry on top of an already perfect day, so make it one you’re sure to never forget! Here are some creative send-off ideas to provide you with a little inspiration for planning a grand exit on your big day!
Roll Out in Style
Put a spin on the classic getaway car by using a retro convertible or sleek limousine. Waving goodbye to family and friends from the comfort of your getaway car also allows for personalized decorations. You can’t go wrong with a “Just Married” sign and a trail of tin cans, but personalized banners and flower garlands can enhance your setup.
Make your wedding a day of elegance and sophistication with a classic car as your getaway vehicle. Couples can expect a professional, chauffeured experience as they’re transported to your next destination. From a 1940 Cadillac Fleetwood Convertible Limousine to a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible, A Bride’s Ride has five different vehicles to choose from, so everyone is sure to find something that fits their taste.
If you’re looking for something more luxurious and modern, a stretch limousine just might be the way to go. Relax into the leather seats within the privacy of a chauffeured ride and unwind with your partner after such an eventful day. Bay Limousine, one of several local limo companies in the area, offers transportation from the reception to the airport, hotel or other destination. To ensure your day runs smoothly, Bay Limousine needs the number of passengers, the pick-up address and time, the transportation location address and the final location drop-off address and time.
Visit abridesride.com and bay-limo.com for quotes and to check out the full fleet of available vehicles.
Ride Off Into the Sunset
Planning a rustic or environmentally conscious wedding? Ditch the motors and go for a whimsical and relaxing ride on horseback or in a horse-drawn carriage. Both of these animalcentric modes of transportation also have ample room for decoration and plenty of charm to spare.
For the fairytale wedding of your dreams, consider booking a storybook carriage ride with Carriages of Pensacola. Based out of Pace, Carriages of Pensacola serves along the entire Gulf Coast. Not only will the carriages transport you to your vehicle, lodging or after-party, it will also provide guests with short rides around the venue and photo ops for the bridal party and guests. With three different vis-a-vis carriages, or carriages with face-to-face seating, including a nostalgic Cinderella-style pumpkin carriage, any couple is sure to find the perfect way to begin the next chapter of their story together.
If you’re searching for something a little more fantastical, maybe a romantic horseback ride is the right fit for you and your partner. Gallop away side-by-side with your new spouse and dip your toe into the world of horseback riding. Iron Horse Stables in Cantonment provides plenty of photos and rides with three
different horses, as well as their very own unicorn. Of course, venues must be outdoors or have a designated outdoor area for your steeds.
For quotes and booking information, visit carraigesofpensacola.com or email Iron Horse Stables at ironhorsestables.ride@gmail.com.
Set Sail
Hosting a waterfront wedding? Make a splash with an exit that is all about fun in the sun! A nautical getaway is a great way to incorporate the stunning views of the Emerald Coast while achieving an intimate and serene moment with your partner. These send-offs will surely put you in a honeymoon state of mind.
For a thrill-seeking end to your day, consider renting a WaveRunner or Jet Ski for a fun escape that allows your personality to shine through. Serving Pensacola Beach to 30A, La Dolce Vita offers multi-day jet ski and WaveRunner rentals for all your nautical needs. La Dolce Vita rents out of Calhoun Marina, Sandestin Baytowne Marina, Whale’s Tale and Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Before picking up your vessel and embarking on your seabound adventure, onsite instructors will go over a comprehensive safety briefing to ensure safety and comfort.
For something more timeless and calm, renting a center console boat may be the way to go. Enjoy the serene waves and Emerald Coast while having an intimate moment with your partner. If your reception takes place on the coast of Perdido Bay, Happy Harbor Rentals is the perfect spot to rent a center console boat for a full or half day. To drive the boat, all you need is a valid driver’s license and to be over 21 years of age. Although rentals are not allowed in the gulf, there are still plenty of picture-perfect spots in the bay. With a center console boat, there is also room for decorations to celebrate your day. Signs, lights, and flowers are a few ideas to include. Just be sure to secure all decorations to avoid flying debris and litter in our beautiful waters.
For more information, quotes, and other rentals visit ldvbeach.com or happyharbors.com
Take to the Skies
Take your wedding to new heights by having a helicopter or hot air balloon make your departure something to remember. These breathtaking exit ideas are the perfect way to end a daytime reception while allowing for some great photos guests are sure to enjoy.
Take in a bird’s eye view of the Pensacola area and share this oncein-a-lifetime experience with your new spouse in a hot air balloon ride. If hosting a wedding on a farm or field, this exit strategy may be the perfect end to your big day. A tethered flight on a hot air balloon requires clear land of at least 200 feet in diameter free of powerlines, trees, lights or other potential obstacles. Flight times are also very particular, usually taking off 2 hours before sunset to ensure a safe and comfortable ride. If a serene and quiet moment with your partner sounds like the ideal send-off, a ride in a hot air balloon might be just what you’re looking for.
Looking for something a little more thrill-seeking? Try taking an exciting trip in a piloted helicopter instead. Helicopter flight agencies work with venues to ensure safe and orderly flights. For couples booking venues that have never had a helicopter send-off at their location, written permission from the owner is required. Pricing is based on flight time and down time, or time the helicopter is onsite. While some brides may prefer only a drop-off or pick-up, others may want pictures with the entire bridal party and guests.
Interested in booking an unforgettable experience? Book with Tracer Hot Air Balloons by emailing gwptracer@gmail.com, or Lost Bay Helicopters online at lostbayhelicopters.com.
Pensacola-Centric Exits
If you’ve never been one to stick to the classics, no problem. Our beautiful beaches and Pensacola culture offer several out of the box opportunities to go out with a bang. With plenty of photo ops and laidback rides, feel free to break the mold and put a hometown spin on this timeless tradition.
If you love Pensacola almost as much as you love your partner, a trolley ride is the perfect way to incorporate our beautiful city into your big day. Beach Bum Trolleys offers trolley rentals for all kinds of events, including weddings. Serving Seaside to Mobile, Beach Bum Trolleys will shuttle the wedding party to and from the venue and reception and stick around to carry you off into the sunset. For larger weddings, guests can also be shuttled from the ceremony to the reception. There is a required three-hour booking minimum, but initial travel time to your venue is calculated into the total time.

Bridal Style
2025 Wedding Dress Trends
There are so many important details to consider when planning for your big day, especially when it comes to finding the perfect dress. With so many styles to choose from, finding a dress that’s not only trendy but also represents your own unique style can sometimes prove to be a difficult challenge. Rather than reinventing the wheel, this year’s brides are breaking tradition by combining aspects of traditional wedding dress styles with more modern, fashion-forward details and silhouettes that embrace their style and individuality. From simple yet chic designs and dreamy lace overlays to eye-catching colors and effortless waistlines, here are some of the most popular wedding dress trends making their way down the aisle in 2025.
Structured Silhouettes
Elongated Waistlines
This year, waist-focused designs are dominating bridal fashion. With the rise of renaissance-era silhouettes, drop and basque waist gowns are reigning as supreme style choices for 2025 brides. Arguably one of this year’s most popular trends, these waistlines create a beautiful hourglass, creating a flattering silhouette on just about every body type. A basque waist features a fitted bodice that dips below the natural waist, creating a V-shape that elongates the torso and cinches the waist, while a drop waist sits below the natural waist, often at the hipbone or slightly below. Both styles emphasize sleek, flattering lines that extend the torso and look stunning paired with soft skirts that flow effortlessly to the floor. From structured bodices to hourglass shapes, these styles emphasize a sculpted, fitted look that gives a sense of drama and sophistication. Inspired by 18th-century fashion, drop and basque waistlines add a feel of timeless elegance and are perfect for brides looking to achieve a regal, vintage-inspired look.
Garden Party Vibes
Floral Motifs & Bouquet Bodices
Floral vibes are in full bloom this year. However, instead of creating gowns with full-on botanical detailing, many of this year’s popular styles feature floral details on the upper half of the dress in the form of bouquet bodices with cascading vines and intricate lace details. Many of this year’s brides are opting for nature and garden-inspired looks. Think soft, airy fabrics, flowing skirts and delicate florals. Garden party vibes evoke a sense of whimsy, perfect for outdoor weddings or romantic ceremonies under the stars. Designers are bringing a touch of whimsical nature to this year’s styles with touches of lace, delicate embroidery and 3D florals. This aesthetic is perfect for a flower-loving bride who desires an ensemble that isn't completely decorated in blooms.

Sheer Elegance
Illusion Cuts & Sheer Overlays
Fabulous nude, sheer and illusion lace wedding dresses are making their way down the aisles in 2025. While they don't sound very bridallike, this type of gown is jaw-droppingly beautiful. Instead of gowns featuring more traditional fabrics like heavy satins and silks, many brides are opting for illusion lace or tulle—often with appliqué, embroidery and beadwork—paired with a nude-toned underlay. While the terms sheer and illusion are often used interchangeably in the world of wedding dresses, there is a difference between the two. Sheer wedding gowns refer to styles made with see-through fabrics like tulle, organza and lace. Illusion wedding gowns, refer to layering these same fabrics over neutral-colored materials to create the appearance of transparency without actually forgoing coverage. Whether it’s sheer sleeves, illusion necklines or delicate tulle overlays, these designs allow brides to show just the right amount of skin while also keeping it classy and elegant. Sheer styles exude a sense of ethereal beauty, making them perfect for the bride who wants to feel like a fairytale princess.
Jacquard Fabrics
Three-Dimensional Patterns & Textures
Jacquard fabric wedding dresses are a standout trend for 2025, offering brides a blend of timeless elegance and modern sophistication. Known for its intricate, woven patterns, jacquard fabric brings a unique texture and dimension to wedding gowns. This luxurious fabric often features floral motifs, geometric designs or other bold patterns. One of the key benefits of jacquard fabric is its ability to hold structured shapes, making it ideal for voluminous ballgowns, A-line dresses or tailored sheath designs. The fabric’s subtle sheen adds an extra layer of sophistication without overpowering the overall look. Jacquard wedding dresses also work beautifully for brides looking to incorporate modern trends with a traditional twist. This style of fabric is an excellent choice for brides wanting to make a statement with a gown that combines luxury, artistry and timeless appeal.

Transformative Looks
Convertible & Two-in-One Dresses
Why settle for one look when you can have two? Convertible and two-in-one dress styles are coming in hot for 2025. Not only do convertible wedding dresses allow you to switch up your style without ever having to change, but they also give you multiple wedding looks for the price of one. One of the most widely adored convertible features is a mini dress with a detachable overskirt. This allows the bride to wear a grand, full skirt and seemingly never-ending train for the ceremony before taking it off to expose a more minimal dress for the reception. Other types of convertible or two-in-one gowns are designed with removable sleeves, straps, capes and even bows. While brides typically favor more formal or modest looks for the ceremony, a more chic or playful ensemble is often favored during the reception. The versatility of these convertible looks helps to ensure the bride remains comfortable and confident from the start of the ceremony to the very last dance. This trend is perfect for brides who want a practical yet stylish wedding dress option.

Perfectly Planned
Planning a wedding is more than just picking a venue, choosing flowers and finding the perfect dress. It’s about turning your vision into reality—and for that, you might need a little help. A good wedding planner collaborates with the happy couple to incorporate elements that reflect the personalities, values and love story of the soon-to-be newlyweds. A great wedding planner doesn’t just organize details; they listen, interpret and create. They help couples navigate the overwhelming choices, manage logistics and ensure that every element feels authentic and seamless. Pensacola Magazine asked three local wedding planners and designers to highlight a recent wedding that came together perfectly from a planning standpoint. These planners worked closely with their couples to craft unforgettable experiences that celebrate each couple’s unique love story.
Modern Vintage
Bride & Groom: Andrea Brazel & Josh Harris
Planner/Designer: Shannon Pallin, Fiore of Pensacola
Wedding Date: November 16, 2024
By Shannon Pallin
Location: The Sanctuary Photographer: Kista Haas Photography
Weddings for 2025 are in full swing at Fiore! We are dreaming up ideas encapsulating each couple’s unique vision. One key element that I am looking for when we are meeting with a couple is something that they identify with. One example for this spring is a hand-detailed wedding crest that showcases various elements that were very personal to the bride and groom’s individual journeys but also represented them as a couple. If one person loves the water and oysters, we will incorporate oyster shells on a ribbon tassel to tie up linens on a table. If the four-leaf clover is your sign of luck, then we use Oxalis plants, better known as clover, in your centerpieces. Each small detail creates a memory that will not be forgotten.
Our featured wedding this past fall was Andrea and Josh Harris. They are genuinely filled with love and laughter and it showed in every way possible. It started with her finding The Sanctuary, one of Pensacola’s newest, breathtaking venues in town. When Milan and Danielle, owners of The Sanctuary, first heard from our bride they immediately sent her to meet with me. In our very first phone call, Andrea said, “I don’t want my guests to feel like they are in Pensacola.” Although we love everything about Pensacola, we wanted them to feel like they had been transported to another place and time where memories of a lifetime were made.
From a visionary standpoint, I love it when a couple has a vision and then releases control of the design to us. After our first meeting, I set her up with our other top-notch vendors in the area, and off we went. This wedding was very intentional and thought through on every level. The ceremony was a mix of classic, vintage, modern and Art Deco in shades of white with gold details. Simple gatherings of white tulips and vintage brass candlesticks created the aisle. Art Deco-style sconces were attached to a circular backdrop covered in white calla lilies and gold-dusted garlands of roses and foliages. It felt like you were transported into another era of classic romance and beauty. The table setting for the head table was a show stopper. We created a semicircle with seating for 10 filled with hundreds of candles, white roses and white hanging amaranths draped on the tabletop. What was unique was that we put a stage in the middle of the circle and had an incredible saxophonist play their favorite songs to them. Much like having a front-row seat to the best concert in the world. This stage served as a focal point for the saxophonist to mash up songs with the DJ all night long. We can’t leave out the cocktail hour, which was dark and moody like a jazz club. We created a wall of flowers in black and white that was suspended over two water features that we created with peace lily plants and ponds. We placed a white goddess statue in the center of the ponds creating a secret garden vibe. When the sun went down, the cocktail party came alive followed by a second line. After the second line, guests re-entered the totally flipped and transformed space–morphing from the ceremony’s simple beauty to an over-the-top reception, where the guests danced the night away.
Happily Ever After
Bride & Groom: Shelby & Wesley Hatsfelt
Planner/Designer: Mēgan Kennedy, Mēgan K. Events
Wedding Date: January 20, 2024
By Mēgan Kennedy
Location: Private Family Estate Photographer: Rae West Photography
When people think of Disney World, magical is typically the first word that comes to mind. So, when Shelby and Wesley Hatsfelt described their Disneyesque wishes for their wedding reception, the Mēgan K. Events team took all things magical and nostalgic to heart while creating a reception fit for a princess (and prince!).
Shelby and Wesley’s wedding ceremony was held at Disney’s Tree of Life two months before their local reception. Being surrounded with some of their closest family and friends in Orlando was truly special, but the couple wanted all their loved ones to celebrate their nuptials and hosting the wedding
reception at their family estate in Pensacola allowed that dream to become a reality. On January 20, 2024, over 200 family and friends dined and danced at a party fit for a Disney movie.
As guests, many of whom chose pink as their attire color of choice, made their way onto the estate, they followed a path of trees all aglow that mirrored the Tree of Life ceremony backdrop. The couple’s ceremony wedding video at Disney World played like a true Disney fairytale on the outside of the tent walls. Once inside the tent, guests were inundated with details including a balloon drop, Cinderella’s Castle cake, rows of curved seating tables with perfectly-placed pink flowers,
uplighting that flickered like stars, guests donning Mickey (and Minnie) Mouse ears, and a chandelier made up of disco balls and hundreds of pink blooms centered above the dance floor to create the perfect place to dance the night away. Guests were treated like royalty and enjoyed culinary delights and custom cocktails served by bartenders in shiny pink tuxes. The night was truly magical for all.

Second Line Soiree
Bride & Groom: Ashley and Kevin Christman
Planner/Designer: Kelly Rhodes, Southern Frills Weddings & Events
By Kelly Rhodes
For one Pensacola bride, creating the perfect wedding wasn’t just about saying “I do”— it was about bringing the heart and soul of her hometown in Slidell, Louisiana, and its New Orleansstyle vibe, here to the Gulf Coast. With a vision of Roaring ‘20s glamour and classic NOLA charm, she and her fiancé wanted a crafted wedding that blended timeless elegance with vibrant cultural traditions.
The celebration began with an opulent, Gatsby-inspired aesthetic. Deep neutral tones—champagnes, golds and rich blacks—set the stage and were reflected in everything from the floral arrangements to the candlelit tablescapes adorned

with pearls and luxurious feathers and palms. Guests were greeted by a custom-curated scent of vanilla and magnolia, setting the tone for a night of extravagance. Guests were also gifted with this scent to take home, to later bring back all of the wonderful memories.
New Orleans flavors were at the heart of the reception menu, with guests indulging in muffulettas, gumbo and other Crescent City favorites. But perhaps the most showstopping moment was the transition from cocktail hour to the reception—led by a lively second line, complete with a brass band, waving handkerchiefs and the unmistakable energy of a true NOLA parade. Guests
then witnessed a romantic choreographed first dance and then danced the night away to NOLA's most prized wedding band, Paperchase.
Honoring Southern wedding traditions, the bride chose a fourtier king cake instead of a classic wedding cake, incorporating the beloved ritual of cake pulls for her bridal party. Each charm revealed a special fortune for the women who stood by her side on her special day.
But beyond the aesthetics and traditions, this wedding carried a love story full of meaning. The groom, one of Pensacola’s finest, proposed to his bride in the most fitting way—lights and sirens flashing, signaling the start of their forever. That unforgettable moment inspired their wedding date on October 18, 2024, chosen for its special significance in police code —10-18, lights and sirens. From Art Deco elegance to NOLA-infused revelry, every detail of this wedding was sentimental and meaningful, it was intentionally designed to reflect the couple’s personality, preferences and love story.
It’s an event that I personally will hold close to my heart, and always want to share in decades to come.

MOCHA MOUSSE
This year’s styled shoot takes inspiration from the Pantone Color of the Year, Mocha Mousse. Once considered a humble and grounded tone, Mocha Mousse brings brown into the spotlight, transforming it into a warm hue that exudes earthy elegance and rich luxury. The exposed brick walls of Five Eleven Palafox’s Magnolia Hall set the scene for an unforgettable mocha-infused wedding. Deep coffee-colored draping cascades from the ceiling, creating a striking focal point. The finely curated dining tables are dressed with layers of champagne, cream and mocha. Tall golden candlesticks and gold flatware add regal accents to the elegant design.
A cozy lounge area, dressed in neutral tones and surrounded by lush florals, offers a quiet retreat for guests to relax and recharge between dances. The cake is a stunning example of mocha-hued and flavored decadence—a tiered dark chocolate espresso cake filled with luscious mocha ganache and finished with dark chocolate buttercream and chocolate fondant.
A statement-making back bar, painted in Mocha Mousse, anchors the lounge and bar area, seamlessly blending into the warm and inviting palette. Five Eleven’s Palafox Lawn provides a dreamy open-air setting under the glow of downtown lights—perfect for sipping and celebrating beneath the stars. Tap the Coast served up magic with their Martini Bar, featuring a signature Toasted Marshmallow Espresso Martini—a rich and velvety after-dinner delight. The espresso martinis were served in vintage glassware and stacked for a dramatic effect. The cocktail lineup included beautifully crafted drinks and mocktails in shades of whiskey, chocolate and burnt sienna.
The silk floral arrangements, mocha ribbons and crystal chandeliers added soft, romantic touches throughout the space. The celebration continues on a glowing dance floor, framed by marquee Mr. & Mrs. signs, setting the stage for a night of dancing and revelry. Savannah is wearing a Stella York gown from The Bridal Loft Pensacola. Its dreamy all-over floral pattern, modern waistline and stunning brown-toned skirt were the perfect fit for this shoot. Jason is wearing the slim-fit Tan Dominic suit by Ike Behar with a matching vest and cognac shoes from Randall’s.
Tucked away in the serene Cypress Courtyard, the cigar lounge invites guests into a space of quiet sophistication. Ivy-covered walls and lush greenery create a secret garden feel, while the warm, masculine tones of whiskey cocktails, leather seating and Haze Grey’s hand-rolled cigars set the mood. A champagne-and-mocha draped backdrop, flanked by grand floral arrangements and tall brass candelabras, makes for a stunning photo op.
Haze Gray Cigars added the texture and tone of tobacco with their cigar rolling station and mobile cigar lounge offering a tailored experience with custom cigar boxes and bands to celebrate the big day in style.

Neal, a long-time Pensacola resident, used to love spending time outdoors and tending to his garden. B ut after injuring his lower back and undergoing surgery, his active lifestyle came to an abrupt halt. Complicat ions from the surgery left Neal with little sensation or stre ngth below his waist. Later, he was diagnosed with cauda equina syndrome, a condition caused by the compress ion of the nerve root bundle at the base of the spi ne.
“ I was numb from my knees to my waist,” Neal shared. Despite undergoing two additional spine surgeries i n 2021 to help his nerves regenerate, his recovery fe lt like an uphill battle.
That’s when a friend recommended Dr. Gibbons at Acupuncture & Wellness of Pensacola. “I was told, ‘ Dr. Gibbons does great work,’ and they were absolutely right,” Neal recalls.
“When Neal first came to us, he was using a walker, and his legs were nearly completely numb,” Dr. Gibbons explains. “He struggled with significant weakness and fatigue, and his doctors had told him that he might never walk again.”
Refusing to accept that prognosis, Dr. Gibbons crea ted a comprehensive treatment plan for Neal with the goal of restoring sensation, improving his endurance, and helping him reclaim his mobility. His customized pl an combined three powerful therapies:
Acupuncture: To stimulate blood flow and supply nutrients to the damaged nerves for repair.
Electroacupuncture: By adding a gentle electrical current to the needles, this treatment dilates bloo d vessels, bringing even more oxygen and nutrients to the nerves and muscles.
ATP Resonance BioTherapy : A low-level electrical current applied through small pads on the skin to reduce inflammation, enhance circulation, and promote nerve regeneration.
These therapies work synergistically to repair dama ged nerves and improve overall function,” Dr. Gibbons explains.
The results? Neal has made remarkable progress. “I’ve regained a lot of feeling from my waist down, and my endurance has significantly improved,” he says.
Now, Neal can walk longer distances and even navigate the grocery store with just a shopping car t for support. “I’m probably 50% improved, and every day I get stronger thanks to Dr. Gibbons and her team.”
“ I wouldn’t be where I am without their expertise,” Neal adds. “Dr. Gibbons knows what she’s doing, and the entire staff is incredible. I highly recommend Acupuncture & Wellness of Pensacola to anyone looking for real results.”
