President’s Message

Austin Tenpenny
President
aDoor Properties
Dear Members,
As I sit down to write my final President’s Message for Cornerstone Magazine, I am filled with both pride and gratitude. Serving as the 2025 President of the Home Builders Association of West Florida has been one of the greatest honors of my professional career. And what a year it has been — not just any year, but our 75th anniversary as an association.
For 75 years, our association has stood strong through changing economies, shifting regulations, and evolving demands on our industry. And this year was no different. While market pressures and uncertainty followed many of us into 2025, our association chose to lead with determination rather than hesitation. We hosted outstanding events that brought our membership together, fostered business relationships, and showcased the incredible craftsmanship and professionalism our members take pride in through our Affordable Housing projects.
We faced challenges in housing affordability and regulatory policy head-on. We navigated yet another land development code change process in Santa Rosa County, and we continued to champion the importance of residential construction and land development as the foundation of economic vitality.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the exceptional people who make up the HBA of West Florida. To our staff — Executive Officer, Jennifer Mancini, and our Member Services Manager and Accountant, Stephanie Monie, THANK YOU for your unwavering commitment, your tireless work behind the scenes, and your constant support of our members. To our Senior Board, Board of Directors and committee volunteers, thank you for your leadership, guidance, and countless hours dedicated to advancing our mission.
And to our members, you are the engine that drives everything forward. The homes you build, the services you provide, and the problems you solve every single day improve and advance the housing industry.
As I pass the gavel, I do so with tremendous optimism. Our history proves we are resilient. We adapt. We innovate. We persevere. The challenges we face today will become the stories we celebrate tomorrow.
Let’s carry the momentum of this milestone year into 2026 with confidence and unity. Let’s continue to support one another, advocate for our industry, and uphold the essential belief that housing is the cornerstone of a thriving community.
I invite you to please join us on January 8th, 2026 from 5:30pm-8pm at Pensacola Yacht Club for our Annual Installation and Awards Reception to welcome the 2026 Senior Officers and Board of Directors. Please see the event flyer in this issue for registration information.
As my term comes to a close, I want to thank each of you for your support, your engagement, and your trust. I may be passing the gavel, but I will continue standing alongside you fighting to promote and protect the housing industry of Northwest Florida.
Here’s to a successful year ahead… and to the next 75 years of building opportunity.
With gratitude,

Celebrating a Year of Growth, Collaboration & Community Impact
2025 was a milestone year for the Home Builders Association of West Florida, marked by expanded member engagement, strong community partnerships, major events, and programs that showcased the strength and generosity of our building industry. From large-scale celebrations to meaningful charitable initiatives, this year demonstrated what can be achieved when builders, associates, and community partners join together with purpose

Year in Review

HBAWF 2025

Parade of Homes & Kick-Off Party
The 2025 Parade of Homes demonstrated the exceptional craftsmanship of our local builders, featuring 17 builders and 37 homes, including our Affordable Housing Project, across two counties. With 14,000 Parade magazines distributed, this year ’s Parade reached a wide audience and highlighted the depth of talent within our membership.
Our Kick-Off Party at V Paul’s in downtown Pensacola brought the building community together for an evening of celebration. Special thanks to our party sponsors—University Lending, KJM Land Surveying, and Guild Mortgage—for their support.
Awards reflected an outstanding lineup: Southern Artisan earned Overall Best Home, Candor received the Crowd Favorite award, and FD Builds was recognized across multiple categories—an impressive accomplishment that speaks to their quality and dedication while honoring the excellence of all participating builders. We look forward to hosting our 2026 Kick-Off Party this June as we launch another exciting Parade season.
Golf Tournaments
HBA hosted two memorable tournaments at Scenic Hills Country Club in April and October, supported by presenting sponsors LJA and Fairway
Our spring Luau Tournament brought a fun, tropical atmosphere to the course, while the fall Tacky Tourist Tournament became an instant favorite with tee stations transformed into destinations such as Nashville, Hawaii, Boston, Mexico, New York, Australia, and more. Florida Insurance Agency earned top honors for their creative Germany-themed station.
These tournaments blended friendly competition with camaraderie and member engagement. We return to Scenic Hills in April 2026 with a new theme soon to be announced.

Member Socials
Our beloved St. Patrick’s Day Social returned to Ferguson’s showroom, complete with a festive treasure hunt, prizes, and refreshments—tradition continues in 2026.
This year ’s Member Social took place at the Pensacola Wahoos game. Thanks to LJA and Total Connect Solutions, members cheered, snacked, and caught up with one another in a fun, relaxed setting. It returns in May 2026!
Additional gatherings included a PEC-sponsored event at The District and a social sponsored by OWN Inc. at Odd Colony We closed the year with a festive Christmas Member Social at Gene’s Flooring, featuring a holiday prize hunt, refreshments, and a toy drive benefitting the Gulf Coast Kids House.
These complimentary events strengthen relationships, encourage member involvement, and help foster a vibrant community yearround.

Affordable Housing Project

This year also marked the launch of our Affordable Housing Project, a collaboration between the City of Pensacola, the Northwest Florida Community Land Trust, and HBA. Three builder members — ParsCo, Johnson Construction, and Sunchase Construction — constructed two new homes and rehabilitated a third for families earning at or below 120% of the area median income.
Supported by extensive donations of labor, materials, and services from HBA members and community partners, this initiative ensures long-term affordability through the Community Land Trust model. The completed homes will be sold through Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program, with proceeds reinvested in the HBA for future projects.
A special reception at Seville highlighted this collaboration, featuring remarks from Mayor DC Reeves, Habitat representatives, and recognition of our builders and Diamond Sponsors: Moorhead Law, Cabinets Direct, Swift Supply, Pensacola Energy, Fortified Structural Solutions, Guy Brothers Roofing, and American Concrete.
This project demonstrates what is possible when local government, nonprofits, and builders unite to make lasting community impact.

75th Anniversary Celebration
A major highlight of 2025 was HBA’s 75th Anniversary Celebration at the Pensacola Yacht Club. The evening featured a meaningful Past Presidents Pinning Ceremony, showcasing a custom-designed pin created exclusively for this milestone and for future association presidents.
The celebration also honored distinguished leaders for their lasting contributions: David Peaden, past Executive Officer; Richard Appleyard, the association’s first Executive Officer; and Alton Lister being presented with the **** The event served as a powerful reminder of our association’s history and the individuals who helped shape it.
Advocacy & Industry Representation
In 2025, HBA was strongly represented at major industry conferences and advocacy events throughout the state and nation. Our association was represented at International Builders' Show (IBS) in Las Vegas, the Southeast Building Conference (SEBC) in Orlando, and the NAHB meetings in Washington, D.C., ensuring we remained engaged with national trends, regulatory updates, and industry innovation.
HBA also had a significant presence at the FHBA Legislative Conference in Tallahassee, where several board members and our Executive Officer met with Florida legislators to discuss issues impacting the homebuilding industry During this conference, President Austin Tenpenny achieved a major milestone by being elected Chairman of the FHBA Presidents Council, strengthening our association’s representation at the state level.
Local leadership recognition was another highlight of the year Our Executive Officer Jennifer Mancini, along with board members Stephen Moorhead and Rick Byars, were honored on the Top 100 Power List by Pensacola Inweekly — a strong acknowledgment of their influence and contributions to the region.
HBAWF’s presence also made a critical difference locally. Austin Tenpenny and Michael Patterson of Adams Homes were appointed to the LDC Task Force in Santa Rosa County, where the building industry showed up at a pivotal time. Our participation helped secure meaningful wins for responsible growth. Although not all proposals were changed to the full extent requested, the outcome was a success
This year ’s advocacy efforts ensured HBAWF members had a strong voice in shaping policy, supporting industry progress, and advancing the homebuilding profession across Florida.
