We’re racing full steam ahead now! Come join us Monday to round out the Labour Day Long Weekend for another Summer Raceday –with 9 races gates will open from 11.00am.

Enjoy a burger from the food van, a coffee, a snag from the everpopular BBQ or the Terrace Bistro is open for dining from 12noon3pm with Relished by Nunan taking over our catering in 2024.

You are welcome also to bring your own picnic and enjoy inside seating in the Bookies Area or Downstairs Bar or take up a picnic table & umbrella on the front and enjoy cold beverages from the CUB Pop Up Bar.

The weather forecast is hot, so get yourself trackside and enjoy a great day out with a cold beer!

Training Grass Update: Track Manager Gabe Erbes’ Update

A lot of work has been completed since the last newsletter. This includes the laying of kikyku grass over the sand base profile.

This type of grass lays a strong foundation and will be over sown with rye seed in the incoming months. The sand profile will bring better drainage and the inside and outside rail will be replaced with a new polyrail to complete.

The upgraded Training Grass will be a great new training facility for Ballarat trainers and we look forward to welcoming horses onto the track for use by June if all conditions work in our favour.

New Caterer Alert

We would like to announce that our new caterer is Relished by Nunan and Co. Come try her food at our next meeting next Monday March 11th.

Steph has already been in action for the last two racedays and feedback on meals across the day was very pleasing.

We look forward to you joining us in the Terrace Bistro for raceday dining to enjoy something for Steph’s scrumptious menu selections.

Don’t forget on most racedays, Members have the opportunity to reserve a “Tier Terrace” seating upgrade- simply through being a member and booking ahead.

They are the best seats in the house!

Book in for your next race day experience in the Bistro upstairs.

Condolences to Shay and Extended Family

Earlier last month, the industry lost a local stalwart in Val Brown, mum of local trainer Shay Keating.

Val was a regular on track supporting her late husband and trainer Daryl Brown for many years and behind the counter as a TAB seller on racedays here at Ballarat and across the region.

In more recent years, Val was generally seen around the mounting yard assisting, supporting and cheering on stable runners trained by Shay.

In a fitting tribute Shay’s runner “Into You” saluted at Ballarat on the 1st meeting back in 2024, only days after Val’s passing and in memory of her dear mum.

Sincere condolences to Shay and all the family following the passing of Val Brown.

Container Collection on Racedays supports McCallum/BRI

The Ballarat Turf Club (BTC) is proud to be partnering with McCallum / Ballarat Regional Industries (BRI) for the collection of cans and bottles from racedays. McCallum / BRI has delivered specially marked 240L bins with blue lids which patrons can use to separate empty bottles and cans from general waste. The bins are then collected and returned to a purpose built bulk container collection site in Wendouree for sorting and recycling. The initiative is an important employment initiative for McCallum / BRI and generates jobs for local people living with a disability. The 10c rebate via the Victorian Governments Commercial Container Collection Program will support McCallum Disability / BRI. So now when you are enjoying a bottle of water, can of coke or beer at the races, you are supporting a good cause as well if you help us sort it into the right bin!

Cully scores first Group win

Last Wednesday, Ballarat was represented in the Group 3 Launceston Cup with Richie Cully’s Excelleration.

This win was extra special for Richie with this being win his first Group Victory.

Congrats to Richie, Lisa, their team at Cully Thoroughbreds and connections!

BALLARAT TURF CLUB NEWS: PAT KEARNEY TRAINS FIRST BLACK TYPE WINNER

Two weeks ago was a special milestone for Pat Kearney and his team with their first black type victory with Yellowbrick Road.

Congrats to Pat and team and all connections!

Yellowbrick Road will be aiming to win the Adelaide Cup next Monday all going well. Good luck Pat!
