From The CEO We hope that everyone is finding their new routines for 2024 after enjoying the Festive / New Year Season!

Works and planning still continue at BTC while we’re not racing and the team has some fun initiatives coming up for the Power FM Summer Series Racedays.

It’s a busy return to racing from February 14th, being Valentines Day and a twilight meeting it offers the perfect opportunity to bring your someone special to the races and enjoy a bistro meal in the comforts of the air-conditioned Terrace. As a twilight meeting, please keep in mind the gates will open later at 2.30pm with the 1st race at 3.40pm. Light refreshments & BBQ will be available from the bars during the afternoon and the bistro expected to operate from 4pm – 7pm for an evening meal. It’s a great opportunity to slip out to the club after work and atleast pick up the last few races of the program if you can’t get away earlier.

Following Valentines Day, patrons will enjoy the Mortimer Petroleum Family Raceday (Sunday February 25th), Labour Day Long Weekend Racing (Monday March 11th) and the Miners Rest Community Cup (Sunday March 26th). More information including admission, packages, giveaways and kids attractions on specific days is included within this newsletter.

There’s plenty coming up, so mark some dates in your calendar and ensure you don’t miss out.

Training Grass Progress The Training Grass Upgrade at Sportsbet Ballarat is really taking shape now!! Drainage lines are in, inner ring main & irrigation heads installed, growing medium is rolling out & soon we will see turf put down and new poly rail installed. While it will take some time for the turf to settle - we’re looking forward to seeing horses using this fabulous new facility.

BTC is grateful of the support extended by Racing Victoria, Country Racing Victoria and the Victorian Government to deliver this important project.

Thanks also to the key contractors & subbies working with us to deliver this new facility: Global Turf, Log Hut Quarries and Think Water / Planned Irrigation.

Course Proper Renovation

After significant works to frase mow, core, verti drain, top dress and seed pre-xmas, the recent natural rainfall has encouraged superb growth in the new seed and the course proper is coming back beautifully. Thankfully in the recent summer thunderstorms experienced across the state, Ballarat has received high rain fall to be beneficial, but escaped extensive damage on the whole.

We do feel for country club’s businesses and individuals that have suffered impacts of recent flooding - it can be a terrible & timely clean-up process. We look forward to our return to racing on February 14th and more days like pictured below with clear blue skies are welcomed.

Sectional Timing We are excited to confirm that during this season Ballarat should see the full roll out of “sectional timing” on race days. Preliminary works to install some of the infrastructure has already occurred and are shown in the picture below of an inner field tower which will collect and feed data back to central control. Sectional timing results will be available to winning owners and also to patrons and punters via racing broadcasts and also via apps that share racing results including racing.com
