From The CEO The countdown is on now and we are less than 2 weeks off a Return to Racing at Sportsbet-Ballarat on Wednesday February 14th.

What better way to celebrate “Valentines Day” than a lovely afternoon at the races followed by a twilight dinner! Join us in the Terrace Bistro for dinner and if you are a BTC Member you’ll have the chance to win prizes in our Spinning Wheel Draws.

Gates will open for the Twilight Meeting from 2.30pm.

Following on from the twilight meeting, there are numerous great CUB Summer Series racedays with super sponsor support that we encourage you to attend with family and friends. Grab an umbrella and picnic hamper or book a table in the bistro and enjoy the; Mortimer Petroleum Summer Raceday with kids activities and giveaways, Sunday Feb 25 Labour Day Raceday, Monday Mar 11 – Public Holiday CVLX Miners Rest Community Cup, with Live Music and Kids Activities, Sun Mar 24 The bistro will be open on each race day and the ever-popular BBQ is back in 2024.

Course Proper Renovation: Track Manager Gabe Erbes’ Course Proper Report

As we head towards our first meeting back on February 14, the track continues to improve daily.

We have implemented a new seed blend and this has achieved a denser coverage which should provide more cushion. This week we will be aerating and fertilising the track to create a nice even surface, and fertilising the course proper to boost extra growth. Now we have achieved our density, we can mow to our ideal racing height for our Power FM Summer Twilight meeting. It has been a great team effort to get to where the track is currently.

Stairs Refurbishment Over the last month, our stairs leading from the front lawn to the Terrace have been replaced. The works included a complete replacement of stair treads, new handrail and glass balustrade. With some works still to go, this will be ready in time for Power FM Summer Twilight Racing on the 14th of February.

BALLARAT TURF CLUB NEWS: Time For Square to Deliver Dan O'Sullivan believes that Berkeley Square is a top class galloper, but he concedes he needs to prove himself again with another win.

Berkeley Square made his return on Tuesday 30th January at Geelong trials. O’Sullivan has indicated that he will drop him back in grade in hope to secure another win.

BALLARAT TURF CLUB NEWS: Jaylah Kennedy rides first Metro winner Last Saturday was a special day for Ballarat based jockey Jaylah Kennedy with her first metropolitan winner at Moonee Valley aboard Ceerseven.

This win boasted another Ballarat connection with local trainer Mitch Freedman training Ceerseven.

Congratulations Jaylah and the team at Mitch Freedman Racing on this great accomplishment!

Congratulations are in order for Ballarat Trainer Ciaron Maher and his partner Alice on the arrival of their daughter Eliza Fleur Maher. On behalf of the Ballarat Turf Club we extend our congratulations and well wishes!

BALLARAT TURF CLUB NEWS: Veight is back with a Group 2 win Last Saturday, smart 3 year old Veight resumed in the Group 2 Australia stakes and is back in the winner’s circle after a strong win against fierce competition.

Co Trainer Calvin McEvoy has suggested that he will be back to Group 1 level soon with plans to run in the C.F Orr and Futurity Stakes. After that, plans are still being considered with the potential to increase in distance over 1600 metres or be brought back to the 1200 metres.

BALLARAT TURF CLUB NEWS: Friday at Five winning Hanging Rock Cup Last Friday, Hanging Rock hosted their annual Cup meeting.

Our very own Ballarat based trainer Henry Dwyer and his team saluted to win another country cup.

The win had an extra connection to Ballarat with members and sponsors involved including Vin Armstrong, Phil and David Canny and Tony Kermond.

Congratulations to all involved!

ANTIPASTO BOXES: CARLTON DRAUGHT SUMMER SERIES Over the next two race meetings, you can add an antipasto box for you and your guests to your booking. The antipasto box must be ordered three days prior to the race day you would like to attend.

New to the team: Lucas Pearce Prior to Sportsbet Ballarat Cup Day, Lucas joined our gardening team.

Lucas is 21 and is from Sydney. He has a variety of experience in differing areas since he commenced his working journey in 2016. This includes factory work, a KFC supervisor and a roads attendant for the council.

He has been around racing his whole life through his dad and is into gaming.

If you see Lucas around the grounds on race day, make sure to say hello to him.
