Titan Enterprises expands reach in North America
For nearly 20 years, Titan Enterprises’ trusted North American distribution has been expertly handled by its long-term partner, JLC International. This successful collaboration has laid a strong foundation for further growth in the region.
A UK-based manufacturer of small-bore liquid flowmeters, Titan Enterprises has built a robust global network of partners and distributors in Europe, the Americas, Australia, and East Asia. This strong international presence enables its flow measuring products to reach markets that might otherwise be restricted, easing import access and providing local support and technical expertise.
“The US and Canadian flow measurement market presents exciting opportunities, especially in key industries such as fluid power, oil and gas, chemicals, and food and beverage,” says Jeremy Thorne, Operations Manager for Titan Enterprises. “Market growth projections highlight the expanding adoption of flow meters in these sectors, underscoring their critical role in ensuring accurate flow measurement and control in industrial processes.”
When Basecamp Process Components (BPC Valves) approached Titan and showed strong interest in becoming a key distributor for the USA and Canada, discussions began. With a rich legacy itself as a leading provider of industrial valves, BPC not only understand the process and flow measurement industries, but their long-
established market also provides a clear synergy with Titan’s flow meters and flow measuring instruments.
“In 2023, the flowmeter market was valued at approximately USD 9.9 billion and is projected to reach around USD 17.1 billion by 2033,” states Kate Thomas, Titan’s Company and Finance Director. “In the 2023/2024 fiscal year, America contributed 16% of our gross sales, showcasing a solid base with tremendous potential for expansion.”
“With the global flow meter market experiencing significant growth, we are excited to partner with Titan as we enter 2025,” Scott Will, Owner of BPC, says. “Customers here in the USA and Canada will benefit from Titan’s industry proven products and the added distribution and support we can offer through BPC.”
UPFs reduced from diets
1 in 3 UK adults decreased their consumption of ultra-processed foods in past 12 months
Almost a third (31%) of UK adults have decreased the amount of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) in their diet in the past 12 months, according to a survey of 2,000 people by Opinium on behalf of specialist health and nutrition agency Say Communications.
Most (79%) surveyed had heard of UPFs, as defined by the NOVA food classification, only 27% said they know exactly what
UPFs are. Even so, 50% actively avoid them. People over 55 are leading the change, with 35% cutting down on UPFs. Also, more women (35%) decreased their UPF consumption than men (28%).
The top UPFs eliminated are ready meals (45%) and processed meats (43%), soft drinks (37%) and fast-food items (35%). However, 30% believe not all UPFs are unhealthy with 40% young adults (18-34) believing this compared to 21% of those over 55.
Stefania Rucci, MD at Say Communications, said, “The NOVA UPF classification can feel like a blunt instrument when used without education and guidance. This is the time for food and nutrition companies to educate customers about their food processes with honesty and transparency, so consumers can make the best choice for themselves and their families.”

Food and drink is one of the UK's most innovative industries - and its leading trade show is reflecting that innovation with a host of new features.
Thirty thousand visitors and 1,500 exhibitors will come together for the UK Food & Drink Shows, which is taking place at the NEC Birmingham from Monday 7 to Wednesday 9 April.
The event comprises four shows under one roof: National Convenience Show, Food & Drink Expo, Farm Shop & Deli Show and Foodex Manufacturing Solutions.
Innovation is one reason the UK Food & Drink Shows was last year crowned ‘Best UK Tradeshow more than 8,000 sq m’ in the Association of Event Organisers Excellence Awards. That innovation continues in 2025 with new themed areas:
● Future Food Zone is a significant expansion and evolution of the successful Healthy & Natural zone from previous years. It will offer a broader and more diverse range of innovative food and drink products from on-trend categories across keto, kombucha, fermented foods, whole foods, CBD, functional foods and more. This enhanced focus reflects the growing consumer demand for healthier, more sustainable, and innovative food options.
Alongside the new zones will be established favourite the Plant-based Zone. Supported by The Vegan Society, this will offer vegan and plant-based products, including meat alternatives, snacks, drinks and ingredients.
Also new for 2025 is The Cocktail Stage, at Food & Drink Expo. From expertly crafted cocktails to creative mocktails, brands will
● Coffee Zone has been launched in partnership with The London Coffee Festival to reflect consumers developing more sophisticated palates, and demanding highquality, consistent coffee. This area will host the latest innovations in the coffee industry including top roasters, alternative milks and the most sustainable cups.
● Packaging Zone will be a one-stop-shop for food and drink businesses seeking solutions to their packaging and plastic challenges, with an emphasis on sustainable solutions. This zone will allow industry professionals to connect with one another, share circular economy ideas, meet solutions providers and discover ground-breaking plastic reduction innovations to implement into their own business.
● Business Advice Hub, a dedicated area providing exhibitors and visitors to the show with access to free business advice and services.
Making its debut at Foodex is 'Food Manufacturing: Past, present and future', a 20 minute documentary looking at what the manufacturing industry was like 50 years ago, how it has evolved and what the next 10 years may hold. Playing on a loop at the show, the film features interviews with senior figures from across the industry alongside historical and present-day factory footage.
Foodex is also host to the new Associations Lounge, a meeting area for associations that have partnered with the show. Dedicated networking sessions are being held by the Cold Chain Federation on Monday 7 April (10am11.30am) and by the UKWA on Wednesday 9 April (10am-11.30am).
And, to ensure visitors make the most of their time, the new UK Food & Drink Shows Digital Event Companion app offers a digital show guide featuring exhibitor directory, product listings and live event schedules; an interactive map that guides visitors to exhibitors, events and amenities; and an appointment scheduler that enables visitors to book meetings in advance.
use this space to present their drinks and serve samples. Don't miss your chance to sip, sample, and discover.
Visitors will be able to follow those drinks with an exciting dish or snack from one of the two dedicated street food areas being rolled out at this year's show.
UK Food & Drink Shows is organised by market-leading business information provider William Reed. Covering industries ranging from food and drink to pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, William Reed publishes digital and print media including The Grocer, and organises prestigious awards, business events and conferences.
"We look forward to once again welcoming visitors and exhibitors to the UK Food & Drink Shows in April," said William Reed exhibitions managing director Andrew Reed.

Hart’s flexibility shows
Towards the end of 2024, the Borderlands region, which comprises the five local authority areas of Carlisle City, Cumbria County, Dumfries and Galloway, Northumberland County and Scottish Borders, called for projects within its region to be submitted as part of its Energy Investment Programme writes Chris Dobson.
This ‘Call for Projects’ was described as an ‘exciting opportunity’ to get involved in the Borderlands region's transition to Net Zero.
The challenge was to identify suitable projects to be taken forward for inclusion in the Borderlands Energy Investment Programme, the purpose of which is to accelerate the region's transition to Net Zero by strategically investing in projects that support carbon reduction, deliver local high value jobs, support businesses and skills development and are replicated in other areas of the Borderlands region.
Already home to a range of energygenerating assets across the nuclear and renewables sectors, due to the nature of the Borderlands’ economy and the predominantly rural location, there are challenges in ensuring this is affordable and resilient as well as low carbon.
To meet Borderlands’ aspirations of its growing working age population, low carbon energy is critical for businesses. This
caught the attention of Newcastle-based Hart Door Systems, famous for its range of industrial doors which includes its Speedor range of highspeed doors.
John Loftus, a senior manager at Hart, says there are inevitable postcode overlaps with the
Borderlands Region and its neighbours but analysis shows well over 200 regional businesses use Hart’s Speedors and in some cases Hart’s shutters and grilles too in this part of the country.
The Speedors in demand include Storms, Minis, Supers and Selects, a combination between and Speedor Super and Speedor Mini, which illustrates the flexibility of the overall Speedor range. Clearly the automatic open/close cycle and speed of operation of Speedors brings to an end the ever open door mentality.
Mr Loftus adds, “As Britain’s original manufacturer of the automatic high speed door, Speedor, Hart has always led the way with developments in commercial door technology. Our comprehensive range of high speed doors suits a variety of commercial applications, whether light internal use or heavy industrial use.
“The Speedor high speed door is robustly engineered for frequent use in high-traffic situations. Our tried and tested vertical high speed doors can be used internally or externally to optimise traffic flow. Not only does this high speed open/close cycle improve working conditions, the ever-open industrial door is increasingly, a thing of the past.”

Union Industries helps Crown Lift Trucks overcome operational challenges with installation of high-speed Ramdoor
Union Industries, the UK’s leading manufacturer of bespoke industrial doors, has assisted Crown Lift Trucks in addressing multiple operational challenges with the installation of its cutting-edge high-speed Ramdoor.
Crown Lift Trucks, based in Warrington, faced several issues at its facility, including the need to segregate two adjoining units with different temperature requirements while allowing the movement of high-mast forklift trucks through a large opening.
To tackle these challenges, Union Industries produced a bespoke solution to accommodate the building configuration, ensuring the required opening height could be achieved without compromising functionality. Additionally, the limited space at high-level, between structural steel frames, posed a significant obstacle.
Since launching their UK operations in 1960, Crown Lift Trucks have become one of the world’s leading manufacturers of forklift and material handling equipment. Designing and manufacturing up to 85% of its forklift components, Crown provide their wide customer base with forklift rentals, servicing and maintenance, used equipment and a variety of support services.
The installation of the Ramdoor not only addressed the temperature control and safety concerns but also enhanced operational efficiency. Union
Industries designed the door to accommodate Crown Lift Trucks’ requirements while incorporating a pedestrian access door to segregate traffic flow, ensuring a safer working environment.
The Ramdoor features a dual height opening facility, allowing for optimal heat retention while accommodating different forklift sizes. Furthermore, the engineered seals and infills achieve a seamless finish, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.
It has also been designed to achieve a Class 5 wind resistance rating, making it able to withstand strong winds and to remain operational even during severe weather conditions.
Achieving this rating is supported by a number of the Ramdoor’s features, including its thick Ramhide door curtain material, which is high frequency welded to give the strongest fabric joins available.
In addition, it features heavy-duty wind-brace and wind-bar systems for added strength, plus extra-deep side-guides, which all contribute to the Ramdoor’s ability to cope with high wind loads and pressures. Like other doors in the Union range, it also benefits from a ‘Crash Out’ facility, in case of vehicle or personnel impact to the bottom beam, thus ensuring minimal downtime and repair costs.
Alan Hirst, Sales Director at Union Industries, said, “We are delighted to have assisted Crown Lift Trucks in overcoming their operational challenges with our high-speed Ramdoor. This project highlights our ability to provide innovative solutions tailored to our customers’ specific needs.”
Mark Eccleston, Branch Manager, at Crown Lift Trucks, said, “Union Industries’ Ramdoor has revolutionised our operational efficiency and safety standards. Their dedication to understanding our unique requirements and delivering a bespoke solution underscores their commitment to customer satisfaction. The Ramdoor not only enhances temperature control and traffic segregation but also contributes to our sustainability goals. We are grateful for their expertise and partnership in achieving our objectives.”
