During this photography course students are introduced to the history of photography and explore a range of lens and light-based media. This will include editing using computer software using both traditional and new technologies. Students begin by becoming familiar with the history of photography, basic subject terminology, camera settings and cover the formal elements of photography. They then progress to exploring the potential of digital cameras and other light-based media. Experimentation using a range of techniques and processes are followed so that students can develop rich artistic outcomes. This includes:1) composition in photography 2) developing an understanding of the basics of lighting 3) digital editing 4) exploration of image formation using different techniques and processes At the end of the course, we hope that students will have a better understanding of how to combine traditional media with digital work and produce a body/portfolio of work that showcases successful photography and editing skills.

We believe this course offers excellent preparation for those students who wish to expand their creative horizons by diversifying or extending their skills set. It is also an opportunity for those who wish to progress to university to study in the creative fields or digital technologies. An interest in photography and an enquiring and creative mind
