The Electives programme is a new addition to the sixth form curriculum which was established with the intention to better prepare students to thrive at university, work and life in general. The electives programme consists of a wide variety of bespoke online courses researched and developed by teachers at AGS. Examples of courses offered currently include:
• Recruitment and Job Applications (a course designed to prepare students for searching and applying for jobs in a modern and competitive labour market) • Principles of Personal Finance (a course designed to help students understand budgeting as well as taxes, saving, borrowing and students loans) • Business and Work Skills (a course designed to prepare students for the working environment with a focusses including: how to master communication, engage in successful negotiations and navigate difficult conversations in the work place)
Course Leader
Mr G A Davey Over time, new courses will be added to provide even greater choice for sixth form students.

As with the examples provided, some will have a broad focus accessible and appropriate for all students whilst other courses may be more subject specific to enrich and facilitate each student’s subject choices to better bridge the gap between a subject at A-level and University.
Students have the freedom to enrol on whichever online course best suits their needs or stimulates their interest. Successful completion of a course may be something a student can use to strengthen a personal statement, CV or prefect application. Each course is designed to require between 8 to 12 hours of study and at one hour per week will take students between half a term and a full term to complete. The total number of electives a student will study during their time in the AGS Sixth Form will therefore vary depending on their individual choice.
